Yeah, it's extremely common. From my experience, a large majority of cosplayers enjoy being photographed because they've usually put a lot of work into it. Hell, they probably get photographed a lot without any consent to begin with, that's a bit of an expectation at a larger con tbqh, so you're being extra polite by asking.

Just be polite and nice when asking. You'll be good to go. :)

As someone who has some passing knowledge of graphic design in modern video games, there is a LOT of red flags from just screenshots and videos I've seen. Things like object pop-in at extremely close distances, wretchedly low-quality textures, non-existent anti-aliasing, ect. Frankly, these graphics would have been bad on the Wii, but on the Switch? There is no hardware excuse for that.
