Are there any good resources for diving into the subject material? I figure I'd just go to the subreddit r/networking or whatever, reddit has everything usually.

They probably have good sources on the subreddit. I used Cisco's self study store (learningnetworkstore.cisco.com) where they have programs to guide you through an online curriculum based on the cert you want. It worked well enough to where I passed ccent on my first try. I needed some structure so I shelled out the money for it. ($750) There are most likely other cheaper alternatives but might need more self discipline.

Thanks fam

You use a command line prompt. There isnt really any coding involved in the base of the job itself. Although you could go that route once you get deeper into it.

Interesting

You might not have to learn how to code. There's a whole bunch of different areas in IT such as server infrastructure, databases, networking, etc. You wouldn't need to know how to code to be a project manager of those areas.

learn/get some certs in some sort of agile methodology like Scrum and leverage that into a career as a DevOps PM. lots of money in it and you already have the PMP which is a big hurdle for most ppl

You read my god damn mind man, after studying for the PMP I learned about agile/scrum and it seemed really interesting. I just have to look into the requirements for certification because all I have is the three years professional experience as a PM

I think I realized that mechanical engineering was completely unfulfilling and made me hate myself. After being fired in disgrace I am working towards a new career path and two options have presented themselves to me, construction or IT.

I am about ready to get certified as a project manager professional so that would allow me to land somewhere in a management/lead role, the trouble is I don't have real hands on experience with either construction or IT. Mechanical engineering is pretty much useless unless you want to do calculus and FEA all day, I only have surface level knowledge for the two careers.

So I could either

A: Work towards becoming a licensed home inspector, then a contractor, then start my own business. I would do volunteer construction to get actual hands on experience first.

B: lEaRn HoW tO cOdE. I know the basics of Python, I had to do some coding back in college, I understand how coding works well enough I am just not an expert in it. I would try to learn the prominent coding languages, networking, all that shit, and aim to become a manager/lead. So I wouldn't be the coding monkey, I'd be the clueless guy serving as a manager over the monkeys.

Or I could try to develop myself in both areas, I don't know how much crossover I could actually utilize if I did both though.

go all in bitcoin baby

Three reasons why this is a bad idea:

1. It is only a currency, unlike ETH and other cryptos which have more function (ETH has dApps, BTC can have dApps offchain but it won't be able to compete with ETH's devs)
2. Currently the bitcoin dominance % is incredibly high, which is usually a precursor of alt surges, ETH/BTC ratio will reach ATH soon, much better risk/reward compared to BTC.
3. BTC is the oldest currency and has direct competition with LTC, BCH, BSV, etc. Personally I still believe BTC is the only BTC that matters but you are really putting all your eggs in one basket by betting exclusively on it. Hedge your bets people.

Guys are looking at Bitcoin when they should be buying into Ethereum, Bitcoin dominance is at its highest in the past couple of years, usually that is a predictor for a BTC surge which is immediately followed by alts pumping. If Bitcoin hits 40K for example and the ratio of ETH/BTC hits an ath of about 15% that means $350 ETH today will be worth approximately $6,000. Ethereum is a significant component to cryptos and it has the most potential.

Out of curiosity, why'd you get fired?

tl;dr worked well for 2.5 years, boss gave me a >15% raise, a $30,000 retention bonus if I continued working for three additional years, and a letter of commendation. Then he hired an engineer that used to work at Palm in the past to serve as my manager, he asks if I'm very religious, I say "not really," he replies "I'm super religious." Three weeks into him getting hired I start receiving reprimands so I work harder. Continue to receive reprimands, I work even harder, document all my work, maintain great relationships with everyone else including customers.

Monday my boss sits me down and says it's not working out and fires me.

I am not lying when I say I did in fact work harder than I had in the past, and my boss did enjoy having me around before then (I have a signed letter stating as such), I do not know if my manager legitimately disliked me for my answer to his religion question or thought I was an entitled dickhead that didn't work hard or both. Honestly I completed all of my work, I just didn't do it with a chipper smile 24/7, I can't fake that "we're one big family!" enthusiasm.

One thing that rubbed me the wrong way about my manager is that when dealing with a vendor of ours he complained to me that the guy over the phone didn't sound excited/chipper enough to talk to him, I can't fucking deal with that smarmy shit.

He's a fair dude for what it's worth, I think he will go for it, otherwise I have officially wasted the last three years of my life

TC one of the important things is to think about why you got fired and how you can avoid it next time, as well as how you are going to explain this in interviews. Use some of your free time to think about this.
