You skip the snacks and bring out three separate $1 bills. You put a bill in and press the change button to get the four quarters, times three, and now have enough quarters for another washing machine and the dryers.

"Here we are," you say as you start up a third washing machine. "Now we can get the darks done at the same time."

"Nice," Raven says as you throw in the clothes.

You let the water fill up and you put in the fabric softeners and other essentials. All three machines go simultaneously, and you just sit back and wait with Raven.

"Walking back's going to be just as bad as walking here," Raven says.

"True," you say. "But at least we can shower off when we get back."

"Also true," Raven says. "So after we get back, shower and rest, what do you want to do before the Museum of Death?"

"We still need to visit by an ATM to actually get some more money," you say. "But then..."

"Fine," you say. "But let's make it fast."

"It'll be fine," Raven says as you set your baskets down on a table in the middle of the room. "The manager's asleep, and if he starts waking up, one of us will cast an illusion or something."

Raven pulls her shirt off, standing there in just her shoes, shorts and a lacey bra.

"Oh," you say. "This looks lovely."

She giggles as you walk around and look at her from other angles.

"Use those hands to take care of the laundry," she says as she sorts out through her own.

"You're a tease," you jokingly pout.

You go to your basket, and you separate darks and lights, which is literally black and white clothing.

"Do you have any whites to wash?" you ask her.

"Umm..." Raven says. "Here."

She simply adds socks to the whites.

"Okay," you say as you open a washer up. "We'll get whites going first, it seems to be the lighter load with all the dark clothing between the two of us."

You throw your white shirts, your white underwear, and all the socks in together. But the machine needs coins. You scrounge up the quarter you have and have enough for two machines.

"I'll let you handle your own delicates," you say as you grab her shirts.

"Thank you," she says.

Raven gathers her undergarments and puts them in the second machine. You watch her work, admiring all of that bare skin from her arms and back to her legs. But you behave yourself, and look around the laundromat instead.

There is no ATM to get money, but there is a vending machine. You can get coins from that, as change. You walk over and see the selection.

"Well, I suppose that would be easier than trying to carry those baskets while on Shadowfax," she says.

You arrive on your floor and go to your room. You bring the baskets out from deep within your MagiPocket and set them on the bed. You and Raven gather up your clothes, using a basket each. You both carry your baskets out of the room and go back to the elevator.

You arrive in the lobby, walk out and down the road, headed the direction the concierge sent you.

You first go west along Poydras Street, and go a long way down to turn left onto Loyola Street. There are the occasional musical street performer, all fairly good with their instruments. You especially like the saxophone player.

This is a longer walk than you expected, as you now turn left onto Howard Avenue. You pass by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, perhaps a stop you and Raven will consider for the next day. And finally, you turn right onto St. Charles Avenue, and go down a ways to get to Ace Cleaners. However, it is a pure dry cleaners, so you go down just a couple buildings to Prytania Washateria.

For a laundromat, it really looks more like a guest house for one of the bigger homes in the neighborhood. But the sign hanging overhead promises this is the place.

"I think we'll need to throw these clothes into the wash," Raven slightly jokes about what the two of you are wearing. "Walking around in this heat really works up a sweat."

You lead the way into this apparent laundromat, and do see that it has washers and dryers. Just not a lot. Luckily, there's no one here. It's just the manager sitting at a window at the back, and it looks like he's dozed off for an afternoon nap.

"Do you think we can get away with washing these shirts?" Raven asks in a whisper.

"What? You want to strip in the laundromat?"

"Just our shirts," she says. "All this sweat..."

"Jalapeno hushpuppies."

"Okay," she smiles as she reaches over.

She grabs one but lets go quickly.

"Ooo, still hot," she says before blowing on her fingers.

She uses her fork to stab the hushpuppy and bring it over. She then pops it in her mouth. As she chews, she gives a thumbs up.

You also notice some heat from the crab cakes, so you blow on it quickly. You also use your fork to cut into the crab cake to avoid touching it. You scoop up the piece you break off and pop it in your mouth.

"Mmm!" you say.

The bread is light and flakey, and also very buttery. The crab meat inside is in big chunks, and you can taste an amazing blend of sauces aside from the crawfish mushroom sauce. Inside the cake, it seems to be a blend of mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and there's definitely the kick of tobasco in there. You're also starting to think, with the texture of the bread, this was pan fried rather than oven roasted. An interesting choice, given these are crab "cakes."

As you eat, you and Raven go back and forth sharing your meals, and you get a great sense of all the elements to the dishes. The roasted potatoes and veggies are well seasoned, the etouffee is certainly a parallel to the gumbo but with its own distinct zest so that it isn't just gumbo with more rice. The hushpuppies are great little bite-sized treats, the bread is like pancake batter wrapped around the peppers.

After eating up, you pay the bill. $40 with a 15% tip comes out to be $46. You and Raven then head back to the hotel.

"Hello," you say to the concierge as you return. "You wouldn't happen to know of any good laundromats around in the area, would you?"

"A few, actually," she says. "The two closest to here are actually right next to each other. Go southwest of here and you'll find both Ace Cleaners and Prytania Washateria."

"Thank you," you say.

You and Raven then go to the elevators.

"Wait, we don't have laundry baskets," Raven says.

"Actually," you say, "they're crammed somewhere in the MagiPocket."

"Really? Wow you have a lot of stuff in there."

"Things will get complicated because Shadowfax is a motorcycle, not a sedan," you say. "I suppose one way to get around that would be..."

Anyone else been getting signed out of youtube lately, and given a "something went wrong" message when trying to sign in? It's been happening to me over the past couple of weeks at least. I'm always able to get back in after a bit, though.

I feel like I went through that about a month or so ago, maybe more. I can't remember if it was a cookies thing or not.

You get a little bit of onion, celery and bell peppers, along with a bit of shrimp. You pop that in your mouth, and enjoy that the stewing has made the vegetables soft, and the onions and peppers still have a mellow form of their flavors that add to the rest.

"Let me have another spoonful," you say.

Raven scoops some gumbo for herself as you take another scoop. You get a little bit more pepper in this spoonful, but also a little bit of rice. Still a good flavor profile here, the rice is made soft and savory from soaking in the soup with the mix of all the other flavors.

"This is very good," you say.

"Mhm," Raven nods.

You let Raven eat her etouffee and beans-and-rice for herself while waiting on your meal.

"I like the beans," she says. "Red beans, I think."

"Yes, and a very thick helping of sauce," you say. "I can see the diced peppers and onions in it."

"I can definitely taste them, too," she says.

The waitress returns and has a platter, which she sets down before you.

"Sorry for the wait," she says.

"No that's quite alright," you say as you finally see the Jazzy Crab Cake platter.

The crab cakes have lovely panko breading, golden brown and lightly seasoned with parsley. Heaped on top is the crawfish mushroom sauce the menu describes, and it is very thick and creamy. There's also the lovely side of the roasted garlic potatoes, chopped into hardy chunks, mixed in with the sauteed vegetables, an assortment of green beans, corn and carrots.

And of course, the jalapeno hushpuppies are right next to all of this. The breading on these deep fried nuggets is also a lovely golden brown, glistening with a bit of grease but they don't look soggy.

"Let me have one," Raven says.

"Okay, hold on," you chuckle. "I'm going to start with the crab cakes, of course. You go ahead and sample the..."

"We'll do laundry next," you say. "We'll eat up, not worry too much about being a mess, and then go back to the hotel to gather our things."

"I don't think doing laundry is reason to become slobs," she chuckles.

"Well alright we'll still be proper about our meal," you say. "But if we happen to make a mess, at least we'll be going to the laundromat."

Raven chuckles while sipping soda.

The waitress returns and has Raven's New Orleans platter. The gumbo and etouffee, while both stews, are each distinctly different. The etouffee has a good amount of rice inside while the gumbo is almost a soup. Then there's the side of rice with red beans and sauce heaped on top, and a thick sausage curving around the outside like a border to keep the rice on the plate.

"I apologize, the crab cakes are taking a little longer," the waitress says. "It seems the ovens are having a hard time heating up."

"That's alright," you say.

"Okay, I'll be back as soon as those are ready."

The waitress leaves and Raven unwraps her silverware.

"Go ahead and take a taste," she says.

"Right," you say as you unwrap your silverware.

"Yes, we could try some jazz," you say. "We're on Bourbon Street, and while we can't drink, we can enjoy the music."

"Yeah, that sounds like fun. And while this may sound a little sappy or sentimental, especially coming from me, but what about souvenirs? At least for us to remember the trip by."

"Well, we can always stop by the Museum of Death's gift shop like we did in Los Angeles," you say. "But you're right, we could try getting some other things. Maybe something for the Titans back in California, too, just so we don't return completely empty handed."

"Okay so, jazz, souvenir shopping, Museum of Death and dinner," Raven says, counting the schedule on her finger. "And you mentioned laundry, which yeah, we should probably do that today."

"Yes, but I was worried about going to the Museum of Death on a full stomach."

"Wait, really?" she asks excitedly. "We'd be going there first?"

"Mostly to get it out of the way," you say.

"Well I guess I should've figured you'd put it like that," she says with a chuckle. "We don't have to go right away. We can wait a bit, rest our stomachs, then go."

You decide to get the crab cakes, those sound unique and you'd be remissed to order something else first. Plus, with the sides that come with it, that's more of a full meal in itself.

"What're you having?" you ask Raven.

"I'm thinking of having this 'Taste of New Orleans,'" she says. "It offers a little bit of everything else in the 'New Orleans favorites' section. Gumbo, red beans and rice, and uh, et-too-feh?"

"touffe, yes," you say. "Sounds intriguing to me, too."

"Yeah, so I figured I'd get this to have a little of everything," she says. "What're you getting?"

"The 'Jazzy' Crab Cakes," you say. "I did consider the seafood platter that also samples a little of everything, but maybe that can be another time."

"Actually, we could share, if you want," she says. "Since you want to sample all of the different dishes, after all."

"Well sure," you say.

You look at the menu. Your $19 crab cakes, a $16 New Orleans platter, soft drinks are $2.50 each, a $40 bill already. Olde Nola is quite pricy indeed, but you can manage.

The waitress returns with your drinks and serves them.

"Have you found what you'd like?" she asks.

"Yes," Raven says, starting off. "I'll have the Taste of New Orleans platter."

"Okay," the waitress says. "And you?"

"I'll have the Jazzy Crab Cakes platter," you say.

"Okay," she says. "Now that comes with your choice of french fries, cole slaw, or jalapeno hushpuppies."

"Oh," you say in surprise. "Um, okay, I'll have..."

The one thing about Nola Cookery is the high prices. No less than $16 in the seafood section. You hope that means there's great quality and quantity behind them.

The first three items are self-explanatory, there's fried catfish for $16, fried shrimp for $16, and fried Louisiana oysters for $18. Then there's the combined "Fried Seafood Platter" for $20 but it offers a bit of all three, the oysters, shrimp and catfish. Then there's the "Jazzy" Crab Cake platter, which is of course for crab cakes, but described as having crawfish mushroom sauce poured on top, and a side of roasted garlic potatoes and mixed veggies. All that for $19.

Honestly, you could get the mixed seafood platter to sample all the platters for just $20, that's a good deal. But those crab cakes sound nice, too.
