part of the point of pokemon is the mystery of discovery and seeing what you'll end up finding. rare appearances of pokemon on a background like this may be annoying to those who just want to know everything but I think it captures the pokemon spirit a lot better than just a big listing

I had a few choose your own adventure mario books. They were cute. I wouldn't say they were super great or anything but it was neat how they'd make little puzzles (with images and everything) that if you solved them could help you choose the correct option in what would otherwise be a blind choice. Or how they weighted certain choices by having you play a little minigame that was like 75% result A and 25% result B

went to a chinese restaurant with a few east-asian friends, I was given a different menu than any of them and it was a menu with way less stuff (and mostly really boring stuff) on it. I asked why my menu was different and the person who brought them over sheepishly said "oh, that's the white person menu" and swapped it for one of the actual menus

were they expecting me not to notice or something??

that video covers this sort of thing somewhat but part of it is that genres have a lot of common language that someone completely new to the genre might not realize. Someone playing a 2D mario game as their very first platformer might not realize things like:

1) hold B to run
2) hold jump button to make a high jump vs tap to make a small jump
3) hold jump button when landing on an enemy to bounce extra high

as well as just having general problems with momentum

those issues mostly promote a playstyle of picking a 4-5 pokemon team before even starting the game, and then catching those pokemon and nothing else. I guess you could call it playing smart in terms of efficiency but like... I don't want to play a game where I feel like I am being punished for not spoilering myself beforehand? Part of the fun of pokemon is seeing what pops up and building teams out of cool things that catch your eye, and having shared exp makes this reasonable to actually do. Wild pokemon tend to be horribly underlevelled and so don't leave much room for experimentation if you have to waste exp training them up from being far behind to start with

honestly this is one of the best things pokemon has done, the only problem is that I don't trust them to tune the rest of the game to match since they havne't in the past

it lets you catch new pokemon to swap into your team without feeling like you're throwing away a ton of exp. It lets you use a full party without feeling like you're missing out on actually being strong. it gives you a lot more freedom in how to play and prevents the issue where one pokemon gets so ahead that it just stays ahead forever because it's the strongest and therefore fights the most

just finished up cop craft myself. a little surprised I did, since most seasons I struggle to follow even 1 show without forgetting about it partway through but this season I did 2. I dunno, something about it was just sorta charming.

good points:
- characters & character development
- setting
- plot / themes

bad points:
- art
- animation quality
- cuts & scene direction

maybe I should just read the novels considering what my complaints here are lol

why's there no poll option for both since I definitely do it both in speech and writing online

well, I definitely try to write similar to how I speak. italics or even bold for words I would normally emphasize vocalling in some way, throw in an ellipsis here and there, make weird run on sentences that would get said out loud all the time but just make it look like you didn't proofread while writing, etc. So I'm not too surprised I do both.

I actually feel somewhat uncomfortable texting because I feel like you're less free with paragraphs / line spacing and also because without italics supported my only emphasis option is ALL CAPS which has a very different feel to it

rather than easy/hard I just want games that make you pay attention to what you're doing and engage with the mechanics of the game in order to clear it. This usually means harder games, but easy ones can feel like that too. Well, and some hard games are just hard for dumb reasons

not sure I'm a big fan of henge in that deck considering if you don't have beast it is essentially unplayable

I do want to play a henge deck at some point though, would probably also be green/red but more focused on creatures with power skewed particularly high for their cost

well considering they replaced the weekly 15 wins thing with it, it's not like limiting how much you could progress per day was anything new. the just kinda decided to make the whole thing a lot more obtuse and tell exactly what's going on but functionally I don't think it's really that different

as for rotation, well, in the end, I didn't actually pay anything for any of my cards so having stuff rotate out does not particularly bother me. I'm mostly just bothered about not being able to make a few decks I want to do but never got around to and can't now since some of their key cards are gone

There's also the fact that reading- serious literature at least- is considered more of an "active" activity whereas TV/video games are often more passive. It's actually takes mental focus to read for many hours at a time, whereas any neckbeard can spend all day playing vidya.

shouldn't it be the other way around? video games are the only one of these where a lack of effort or competence on your part will actually prevent you from progressing. Not like a book can suddenly stop having new pages if you aren't reading it well enough
