People will back it up and once it works you will get tons of publicity which means some company with tons of money will hire you and provide the funding you need for crazier inventions. Why should I have to spend extra money for a car that produces less toxic exhaust if that's not a feature I'm interested in? If we were instead talking about break pads meeting certain standards, then there's an argument to be made since the function the break pads directly impacts the safety of other drivers on the road. I would personally pay extra for moonroof because I value it, but I wouldn't try to force it on others.
