TheWitchMorgana posted...lol the lionizing of STEM (and dismissing anything non-STEM as "gender studies" or some other nonsense) is one of the most ridiculous things about the american psyche tbh most of it is just the market existing. a lot of fields are gonna require you to relocate to go to where there are jobs. if you live far inland, well, you're probably not gonna have a lot of luck as a marine biologist, and that actually is STEM, sooo... also a lot of fields are geared towards academia or research and that's not a bad thing either. the common question is "what jobs are in that field" and that's a fair question, but many degrees are basically a ticket to continue on in academics. there's something distinctly anti-intellectual about being dismissive about those types of pursuits and it's probably part of why the US education system has so many issues --- formerly Kanakiri, Sefrig, etc. the Soda Princess herself https://i.imgtc.ws/hzzfqsE.jpg |
