How the hell did the Penguins get swept by this team?

Good Lord the Islanders are a bad team. Just how bad were the Penguins?

The Islanders look like a team that doesn't know how to play hockey in the third after controlling the game fairly well through 2

"Oh"

You love to see it. We're well on our way to the two remaining bad options going out.

I think this third period has actually been worse than the third period from game 2.

I'm pretty sure they haven't had a shot since giving up that goal.

NBA is notoriously predictable in the playoffs.

One of many reasons why I don't care for it.

I disagree with the call on Bortuzzo there

Yeah he launched the guy three times you give him a major obv

Not 100% sure but I believe that's what the word 'remaining' is for.

Toronto was the only bad option

Also since the Islanders are probably getting swept (they're lucky that didn't end 4-1 or worse with the dozen or so turnovers they had in front of their own net) do we start laughing at the Pens yet because that's usually fun to do.

That third period was interesting though. For the majority of the period, the Islanders looked like a team that's *done* already, not like a team that breezed through round 1.

Wonder if this team's at it's limit.

The Winnipeg Jets, meanwhile, entered the season on the short list of Cup contenders but were slight underdogs against St. Louis even with their home ice.

Oh wait that's a surprise I thought for sure they were favored.

Back to 6!

I can't decide if I want to unironically +8 Columbus or Colorado.

I think the long layoff might kill Columbus. Colorado is a much safer bet and they're playing a weaker team round 2.

So I was reading this for no particular reason as they were going over the series and:

The Vegas Golden Knights, last seasons expansion surprise, were slight favorites over the San Jose Sharks despite not having home ice.

Ok yeah, Vegas was slightly favored which is what I thought.

Yeah 7 underdogs won.

East: 3, 4, 7, 8
West: 3, 5, 7, 8

If we go by conference standings we have:

East: 2, 4, 7, 8
West: 2, 5, 7, 8

However the 2 in the West and the 4 in the East could potentially have been considered the underdogs in their respective series.

Doesn't division winner override points though?

(Can we please just get rid of this terrible playoff system)

For anyone who hasn't been following, just to summarize what has happened in the first round of the playoffs this year:

The #1 and #2 overall teams in the league won a combined 1 game against the two 8 seeds, with the #1 overall seed (Tampa) getting swept despite having one of the best regular seasons of all time.

All 4 division winners lost to Wild Card teams.

The underdogs won 6/8 of the matchups, give or take 1 depending on who you viewed as the underdog.

Anything else?

And Toronto still went to 7 again Boston, and, of course, lost.

That, even amongst this madness, is the one constant we could rely on.

East: 3, 4, 7, 8
West: 3, 5, 7, 8

"Oh" NHL playoffs are weird but that adds up actually!

My rooting interest is with San Jose, but I don't know if they can answer MacKinnon in anyway.

Sharks' defense and goaltending is too porous and they just went through a brutal series. I think Colorado's just going to put too much on the board this series for them to handle.
