Trump probably got a shit load of dirt on them.

He's not blackmailing them. They just have the same voters, and most of those voters care a lot more about Trump than they do their local rep or Senator.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/18/us/trump-pardons-war-crimes.html

President Trump has requested the immediate preparation of paperwork needed to pardon several American military members accused or convicted of war crimes including high-profile cases of murder, attempted murder and desecration of a corpse indicating that he is considering pardons for the men on or around Memorial Day, according to two United States officials.

The requests are for Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher of the Navy SEALs, who is scheduled to stand trial in the coming weeks on charges of shooting unarmed civilians and killing an enemy captive with a knife while deployed in Iraq.

They are also believed to include the case of a former Blackwater security contractor recently found guilty in the deadly 2007 shooting of dozens of unarmed Iraqis; the case of Maj. Mathew L. Golsteyn, the Army Green Beret accused of killing an unarmed Afghan in 2010; and the case of a group of Marine Corps snipers charged with urinating on the corpse of a dead Taliban fighter.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said they did not know if other service members were included in the request for pardon paperwork.

The White House sent requests on Friday to the Justice Departments Office of the Pardon Attorney, which alerted the military branches, according to one senior military official. Pardon files include background information and details on criminal charges, and in many cases include letters describing how the person in question has made amends.

The official said while assembling pardon files typically takes months, the Justice Department stressed that all files would have to be complete before Memorial Day weekend, because the President planned to pardon the men then. A second United States official confirmed the request concerning Chief Gallagher.

The military branches referred questions to the Justice Department, which declined to comment on the matter.

Mr. Trump has often bypassed traditional channels in granting pardons and has wielded his power freely, often in politically charged cases that resonate with him personally, such as the conviction of the former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio. Earlier this month, the president pardoned former Army First Lieutenant Michael Behenna, who had been convicted of killing an Iraqi during an interrogation in 2008.

While the requests for pardon files are a strong indication of the presidents plans, Mr. Trump has been known to change his mind. The White House declined to comment.

It is not clear what the impetus was for the requests, but most of the troops who are positioned for a pardon have been championed by conservative lawmakers and media organizations, such as Fox News, which have portrayed them as being unfairly punished for trying to do their job. Many have pushed for the president to intervene.

Pardoning several accused and convicted war criminals at once, including some who have not yet gone to trial, has not been done in recent history, legal experts said. Some worried that it could erode the legitimacy of military law and undercut good order and discipline in the ranks.

These are all extremely complicated cases that have gone through a careful system of consideration. A freewheeling pardon undermines that whole system, said Gary Solis, a retired military judge and armor officer who served in Vietnam. It raises the prospect in the minds of the troops that says, Whatever we do, if we can get the folks back home behind us, maybe we can get let off.

He can't get enough war crimes.

This is part of a larger article about the shakeup in development for their 2020 CoD release, which will now likely be Black Ops 5
https://kotaku.com/sources-call-of-duty-2020-in-upheaval-as-treyarch-take-1834858368
This news comes during a strange time for Activision and Call of Duty. Although Black Ops 4 sold well at first, weve heard that it hasnt had quite the revenue tail that Activisions bean-counters were hoping to see. Internally, Activision executives have started to talk about embracing free-to-play as a revenue modelonce anathema to the publisherand, three sources say, are looking into offering a free-to-play component for this years new Modern Warfare, although the specifics may not be finalized yet. Some within Activision have remained resistant to the idea.

The past year has also been rough for the San Francisco-based Sledgehammer. In February 2018, Kotaku broke the news that Sledgehammers co-founders, Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield, had left the studio. Although Activision spun it as a promotion, saying theyd take on new executive duties, it was very clearly an ousting, and the two quietly exited shortly afterwards. Earlier this year, Condrey started a new Silicon Valley studio with the publisher 2K, where hes recruited dozens of Sledgehammer staff. The studio has been hemorrhaging employees over the past few months, much to the dismay of those who remain.

One primary reason behind this Call of Duty upheaval, according to two people familiar with happenings at Activision, is the tension between Sledgehammer and Raven, whose staff are said to have argued frequently during the past year of development on Call of Duty 2020. Two people familiar with the project described it as a mess. Now, both studios will serve as support for Treyarch as the publisher prepares to release Black Ops 5.

Activision declined to comment.

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/444365-dem-louisiana-governor-prepared-to-sign-fetal-heartbeat-ban

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) is reportedly prepared to break with the Democratic Party to sign a bill banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat detected if it passes a final vote in the state House, The Associated Press reported.

The proposal awaits a final vote before it heads to Edwardss desk. The legislation would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is around the six-week mark, before many women even know they are pregnant.

The procedure would be allowed if the pregnant womans health is in serious risk, but not for pregnancies caused by rape or incest, AP noted.

This whole narrative about how men shouldn't be making the laws regarding abortion is kinda annoying me. Mainly because I think pro choice people do a disservice to themselves on focussing on this narrative.

It removes the fact that there are women who are pro life and would probably make the same legislature if they were in the seat.

If a group of all women voted on strict abortion laws, would that make the law any better? Of course not.

Focus on why there should be abortions instead of some tangent narrative that doesn't speak to the real issue

I think it speaks to an inability or unwillingness on the part of many liberals to identify the real villains.
