Everyone in a tier seems like they would soundly beat anyone below them this year and be close to each other. Tifa might be tier 3 as well based on her performance against samus.. The rest just seem too weak to be in this group.

While Ace Attorney is among my favourite series, let's not pretend it's that relevant. Crono's game is the product of Square's absolute dream team at the time, and "the time" was the RPG golden age, Square's strongest time that they'll never come close to again. Plus, his design is super cool, and drawn by DragonBall legend Toriyama. If he'd had more games, he'd easily be around Link and Mario's level even on this site. But that's okay. Popularity is not that important. Just being able to beat a character like Mega Man is cool enough, not to mention beating Mario 2-3 times back in the day (even if only 1 was counted).

I don't know, wright has a lot of games and at the very least was a meme. A rerelease on steam in 2018 doesnt really count for much since such a huge number get them at this point.

I think it would be a lot closer than people think if you asked the typical gamer. I think a particular group of people from this site especially love chrono trigger. But honestly outside of board 8 I dont think I've ever even seen it mentioned anywhere...

I mean he's speaking to relevancy not quality. And he is spot on. Crono hasn't been relevant in years. The fact that he is as strong as he is is a testament to the quality. But he cant hold on forever on the strength of one great game... he is far and away the biggest one hit wonder on the site.

Does losers bracket trump main bracket since it happens after? I guess wht is your logic?

I would guess fans of the winner in the main bracket will be apathetic, while fans of the loser will be doing whatever they can to get their guy a win. So the loser should get a decent boost. At least for a close match with a surprising result.

Might be too specific of logic to today's match, but curious to hear peoples thoughts.

Also obligatory mention of how bad the set up for the losers bracket was for even forcing this scenario. ..

People are assuming MGS dropped right? I guess everything except Nintendo, Pokmon and waifus keeps dropping over the years.

I don't think its so much MGS has dropped, instead Zelda is really strong now. She laid down huge beat downs in the earlier rounds, similar to what you'd expect from a Noble Niner. I had Zelda in this match since the numbers she was putting up looked stronger then Snake all contest.

Well every other mgs character underperformed and Zelda overperformed in the early rounds.

Loved twilight princess and wind waker when they came out. Majors mark I disliked as a kid, but loved as an adult.

I think people just start judging the games on their own merits rather than compared to their memories of ocarina of time once they get knocked down a few pegs.

It made the contest more fair. The 8 characters pulled out of the pool would have gotten there either way. So this gave the group of 8 something to compete against with interesting results. It also made the main bracket more open, since anyone in link/mario/samus etc.'s portion of the bracket would be losing automatically. This way less popular characters at least had the chance to make a run. And given that so far those characters are at the very worst getting 49.85% of the vote, they clearly would have still stomped the rest of the competition.

We at least saw with pikachu though that winning the early vote then being even for the remainder of the match could indicate winning the end of the match since it's a similar group visiting the sight outside of the board vote.

So zelda winning early means barring a rally snake might need to get a couple hundred vote lead in the next few hours to hang on.

Well it's dead in that it has been defeated imo, but I don't think it can die in that it will still remain fairly powerful, and be noteworthy for what it has done. The history of it and its place in contest legend is never going away and should be celebrated/respected. But its status as an unbeatable block is gone. And I think for the better.

Yeah but the site picked pikachu. Which is what everyone has complained about in the last few contests... I would say this is as clean a win as anything. I suspect Pokemon would have rallied harder if it had needed to. Cant say the same for mega man. Just doesnt seem to be the potential for it.
