Everyone here is saying that I'm wrong about when Ford first starting mentioning Kavanaugh as her abuser, but I have literally received no facts to corroborate this.

When or to whom did she say this to pre-Feinstein letter?

This isn't true. Ford didn't want to go public, and Feinstein respected her wishes. She only confirmed the existence of the allegation when contacted by reporters.

What was she supposed to do? Ignore Ford's wishes? Lie to the reporters?

Wow, democrats sure got lucky there that Ford finally decided to go public at the 11th hour like that. Worked really well with their delay tactics. Good thing for them she didn't decide to come forward any sooner, like at any point during the weeks long confirmation hearings or before that. What luck for them!

i think the fact that she didn't disclose to anyone that it was kavanaugh before all this hoopla is what hurts the most. If there was documentation that in 2012 (I believe the date she first told her therapist), she said specifically that kavanaugh did these things, it would carry almost damning weight, because there would've been no real motive to lie there. But by not linking him to the event until now, it just casts some suspicion over it all.

where did I say that I knew for sure Ford was lying? I just said that it's hard to corroborate, especially since there is basically no history to the claims until the nomination process.

My only mistake in this thread was quoting something that I shouldnt have when i made my comments about democrats stalling.

You're conflating Ford with Dems. Both instances of the quote you're responding to are on accusations at Ford, not Dems.

Unless, of course, she is lieing just to obstruct his confirmation. In which case, it's one in the same.

That doesnt change whether or not her accusation has merit. She made it before he was nominated. THEY dragged their feet until it was politically expedient

I'll agree with this. Whether her accusation has merit is a separate issue. Given her testimony though, I just don't know if there's any external evidence that can actually corroborate it. The committee will literally have to just decide if they believe her or not.

How can Kavanaugh even defend himself here? If I understand correctly, she could not recall the exact date or location of the party. So he can't even give an alibi if he wanted to. They can't even corroborate that they were at the same party much less anything else went on.

It is completely he said, she said at this point.

Do I believe that as a teen he binge drank at parties and maybe had questionable interactions with females? I'd say a strong yes.

Is the accuser's testimony truthful. I am more doubtful of that. Just giving the timing of it all, and the fact that she never said he was the person who did it until he was nominated.

It could very easily be a case of: he attended those type of parties, i had this experience happen to me, and I am anti-republican. Hey, why not say he's the one who did it!

I think the point is that that way of thinking takes all the responsibility off of crappy bosses or crappy work environments and places it on the worker instead.

"oh, your boss is a jerk?" Change jobs.
"oh, your work environment is poor?" Change jobs.

The solution that you're overlooking is that bosses don't have to be jerks and work environments don't have to be crappy, and maybe those should be the things that change. Just letting another poor soul fill that position and being content with that is a somewhat selfish way to look at things.

I'm probably too obsessed with sports for my own good. It is a huge time commitment, though sports is the perfect thing to have on "in the background" while you multi-task and do something else, so it's not all wasted time if watched correctly.

I am a bit surprised at the poll results though. On one hand, this is a gaming website, so it'll draw a lot of the nerdy, gaming types who don't like watching sports. But on the other hand, this is a highly male dominated site, so you'd think sports would be a little more popular based off that. Ah well.

finished this season. It's no avatar. And in the final few episodes, I questioned who their target audience was with all the "share your feelings" scenes. I mean, am I watching Dora the Explorer or some Avatar knock off?

Overall, it was just "okay." Just good enough to watch season 2 when it comes out, but I'm not going to go around telling people I've seen it (except for on here of course).

I just want to clarify that I'm not saying MVP is solely about helping your team win. I'm saying it's a factor, with statistical performance still being the biggest factor. I wouldn't feel jilted if he won it, but I definitely don't think his supporters should be jilted if he doesn't. I just like to debate. It's fun.

but it's not like baseball is a game full of pitchers. Maybe if it was, this wouldnt be a debate. But Pitchers and hitters are so wildly different that it's very hard to compare them to each other. I know they've come up with metrics now that can supposedly compare both, but it's still different.

You keep on harping on the individuality of the award, but I think the very namesake of the reward speaks not just to individual effort but moreso to individual effort and it's effect on the team.

I mean, Most Valuable Player. Most Valuable....to whom? To the team? To himself? To the League?

The plain facts are that despite having an insanely amazing statistical year, DeGrom has added basically no value to his team from a winning standpoint (8-9 personal record, losing team record). Is that his fault? By far mostly not. However, for him to lose a game means he has to at least give up a run, so technically....

probably the latter. Remember, not only are the Mets not a playoff team, they will also finish as a losing team. If winning the MVP on a non-playoff team is rare, winning it as a losing team is even moreso.

Also, out of the pitchers that won MVP, have any been on a non-playoff team? Too lazy to fact check that.

You can say, that's history, so what? But when your trying to figure out what it means to be a "Valuable" player, it just seems evident that team success is a factor that plays into that decision.

And this is true really throughout all sports since the beginning. Is the MVP winner of (insert sport here) ALWAYS the statistically best player? Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. It's not an award generated by computers. It's an award voted by people who have the flexibility to be subjective in their opinions.

So does DeGrom hands down deserve the MVP award solely because of his statistical prowess? Not necessarily. That alone has never been the "be all end all" in who wins that award.

I guess I wouldn't think him underserving if he did end up winning it. His numbers speak for themselves. But I also wouldn't fault an MVP voter who looks at some of the intangibles - did this player have to deal with the pressure of a postseason push? did this player even win more games than he lost? - and votes for a position player on a contending team instead.

Yeah, you can look at the raw numbers and be amazed, but there are some intangibles that could and probably will sway people's votes. Is that fair? Maybe not, maybe so.
