thats pretty sweet. my parents grew up listening to frankie valli, the rolling stones, and janis joplin. Not that I'm raggin' on it but IMO it wasnt music I ever cared about. New Day Rising has my favorite song on it, "Celebrated Summer" and THE no. 1 best pump you up high energy track, "New Day Rising"

This one time I was gathering carts in the lot at an old job and I saw a car with a husker du bumper sticker. amazed, i was doing my job but also keeping an eye on who owned the car. I saw two older people, probably 40s/50s get into it but they drove off before i could come over.

Next time they were in the store i was checking them out and mentioned it, and turns out it is their favorite band, and in fact they named their child Grant in reference to co leader Grant Hart. that was totally cool, though I did get the "guhh, you're a kid[20s] and you dont listen to modern music" but hey, still pretty sweet.

interesting. ive worked at the liqour store down there. thats a pretty nice area.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones/More Noise and Other Disturbances/1992/skacore/Boston, MA

I was originally going to do a single and en EP, but since this album has the single song on it, and because i feel like its a better representation of early Bosstones, I have chosen this album.

The Bosstones are a hardcore punk and metal infused ska band. They take influences from metal and punk. They have on another album a cover of "Think Again" by Minor Threat, with horns, and one of my all time favorite songs, a cover of "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith(please check this out). They take influence from both sides, which makes them a fun and absurd band to listen to at this stage.

The lead vocalist, DIckey Barret sounds, I think, like he's been smoking since age 12. Which is cool, it gives him character and he is honestly one of the most interesting vocalists to listen to, in my opinion. That sets to tone for a band that really does secrete class. They wear suits at concerts and have a hype man. That's it, they also do throw one heck of a show.

So you have a lot of poppier ska songs on this album, but it gets very hard at times. The song "Where'd You Go" is slower tempo, catchy ska. It was also included in the Clueless soundtrack. The very next song begins with the lead vocalist screaming for 3 seconds straight. There's both dynamics at work here.

The song "Bad In Plaid" exemplifies this in one song. At first it is a pretty upbeat, song with nice horns(this album does have a very nice horn section) about how he's a plaid man, don't mess with him or his jacket, but then later on in a frenzy of vocal outburst says 96 words in 20 seconds:

"The plaid means more than the color of our clothes
It means everyone is welcome to the Mighty Mighty shows
Feel free to represent on the Bosstones' stage*
We don't care about your race, color or about your age
You just gotta wanna want it and ya gotta wanna move it
It's a plaid plaid world and we're trying to prove it everywhere we go
As long as you're united with the plaid boys from Boston then you're all invited
Everywhere you go let's all get united with the plaid boys from Boston
And you're all invited!"

Another vocal/lyric highlight is another slower but fast frenzy of words. In the song "Guns in the Young", protesting youth violence, the vocalist says

"You see it on TV, you know it looks cool
All these actors going around killing thousands of people
In two or three minutes, it builds up in your head and you say
'yo I can do that'"

Kanye doesnt just churn out hits. His albums are critically acclaimed as well with dark twisted fantasy(or w/e) seemingly garnering the most.

He actually is a reallt talented musician but i wouldnt pay attention to anything else about him.

Minor Threat/Complete Discography/19809/hardcore/Washington, D.C.



Minor Threat was active from 1980-83 and this album contains 26 songs.

This band is important for several reasons, so I figured I would include their discography here because it was one single release, and its short enough to be one album

Minor Threat, like the name implies, is not a macho band. At all. They have an extremely fast hardcore sound that occasionally can get melodic in addition to being sprinkled with tracks about not drinking. At a bare minimum you have "bottled violence", "straight edge", "in my eyes", and the duo of "out of step(with the world)", and its cover "out of step" (the latter has the lyrics "dont smoke, dont drink, dont fuck, at least i can fucking think" changed to I don't...each thing), are about alcohol and drug refusal.

While the song has plenty of anti alcohol songs, thats not all it's about. The song 12XU, a cover of a song by the band Wire, introduces us to the concept of "flex your head" which I interpret as meaning intelligence and reason beats violence. There's a sarcastic song about selling out, and the song "screaming at a wall" is actually really fun to listen to when you do want to scream at a wall. Another song I'd highlight is "guilty of being white" which was covered by slayer. This song shouldn't discourage you because it isnt racist, and it really sounds great. Another song I really like is "in my eyes" where mackaye shouts "at least i'm fucking. trying. what the fuck have you done?!" Despite all that it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously.

So basically, you've got blistering hardcore that occasionally can slow itself down(and indeed listening to this album in order does show great songwriting evolution), that's got lyrics with serious bite that are very easy to understand. but not in a way where we feel insulted. ian mackaye hasn't even gotten angry yet.

This band never really intended to start a movement with the song "straight edge" but a movement did start and thats what it became known as. if you ever see somebody at a concert with an X drawn on the hand it means nah i aint/cant drink. 46 seconds spawned an entire movement. I can't blame them for promoting positive messages.

Now Chopin...I want to try it though i'd need to buy a 750 ml size. What does it taste like? I like potato vodkas, and indeed the #1 on my list is a potato vodka(boyd and blair) but sipping it neat it has hints of vanilla and butterscotch however no flavorings just potato.

I used to drink vodka, don't know why I stopped. More of a tequila man myself, with the occasional scotch whiskey. I just bought a bottle of 16yr Lagavulin, the Ron Swanson approved whiskey, just to see how it is. Not my favorite, too much smoke.

Brush up on your scotch regions(islay/islands, campbelltown, highlands, speyside) as they have their own characteristics. Then also look into what kind of casks or casks they were in, such as sherry casks will be sweet, ex-bourbon casks will be oakey, etc.

I know you arent supposed to drink vodka straight usually but thats how I do it now, so here we go.

it smells like...vodka, but not super harsh. not really a pleasant smell but there are far worse smelling vodkas out there. Not too good as describing smells but I get a hint of something else in there as well.

Ketel One vodka tastes a little harsh but not too bad, with some noticeable alcohol bite. I...don't really like this flavor at all. Its just straight up vodka. BUT it definitely isn't terrible, though. like its a step above smirnoff and shit it seems like.

I'd say this isn't super amazing but far from the worst. Probably not worth the money, IMO. I can't say how well it mixes but I bet it would be alright.

I think now I am going to go on a vodka taste test. Recently Ive only had two other vodkas besides this one(I do not count the shit I drank in college, which i dont even know what they tasted like besides nikola = ass), but there's so many i havent tried. absolut, ciroc, belvedere, smirnoff, grey goose, etc.

No, that one guy asked for recommendations, so i am giving a review of my personal favorite punk albums, but taking my time to listen to them again and write up a short-ish review of it, rather than just saying hey here i like this stuff go listen.

Not really. I like trying new things since I am a liqour salesman, but I just bought one 50ml airplane bottle of ketel, so thats all i have.

even if I buy a full bottle of bourbon or something its 1-2 shots worth sipped in a night, and not every night.
