Well, only if things go as expected. My Mario > Link hyper risk considered things like Smash's release causing disruptions to the Nintendo heiarchy, as well as Mario occupying the final three matches in a row, coupled with Final Match weirdness could cause a perfect storm of effects for a Mario runback on Link. None of these have been implicitly ruled out yet...

Though, I probably wouldn't have gone with this if I had known the rest of my bracket was good enough to stand as a plausible low-tier prize winner without the Mario upset.

I don't doubt that Link to the Past would have been a force in 1996, but I don't think Link as a character would have been that appealing in a Character Battle environment.

It was the design of the 3D Zelda and the increased story elements that would have put him above the likes of Sonic and Mario.

We've lost so much votals since 2005, and I think the remaining base is much more likely to be the ones that would stick by Samus in spite of the Nintendo heiarchy.

It's the same thing that happened to Seph against Tifa, except that Mario is lucky that he was still able to assert enough power to avoid the result to flip.

Side note: seeing the Nintendo hierarchy in action once again just continues to show how weird it is that it exists. No other fanbase has inter-fanbase weirdness to the point that Nintendo does. Samus is projected to comfortably beat Mario, but she doesn't because Mario is above Metroid. No other fanbase does this, at least not to the extent Nintendo does.

I'm intrigued by the idea of Mario vs. Zelda now, because Mario should be above her in the heiarchy, but this beastly Zelda could have easily climbed the ladder of said heiarchy herself.

The bigger issue is that there are only a few days with one match going on at a time. Since the multiple match format at a time requires seperate clickable match pics, the days of truly freeform pics are likely done.

Yeah, this could possibly be rescinded for the rare one match per day, but this would require everything to be reprogrammed, so I can see why this would not be feasible.
