I realize that they didn't create one, but, theorhetically, if an individual claims a contract without the contract inside, it's accepted and the title is unsuccessfully defended in a title match... I feel like it's the fault of the company and therefore the individual who believes that they won the title would have a legitimate grievance even based on the contractual language that they still won the title?

Couldn't we get a storyline where Braun takes WWE to court because this hasn't been accounted for?

I mean, I know WWE logic and all that, but this is a really amusing conversation.

But wouldn't Carmella's cash-in attempts suggest that a title match occurs once the case is given to the ref since said ref never opens the case to confirm the contract inside?

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that last statement. Even if Mario sits on an extremely stronger platform of sales than Zelda, Zelda would be alone then in the Nintendo arsenal. Everything else aside from Smash Bros. would sell a small fraction of what Zelda normally does, and I can't imagine that any franchise outside of Mario and Pokemon sells the sheer amount of merchandise that Zelda does.

DC always claims that it has a Trinity of top stars, but in reality there are other characters who historically have outsold at least Wonder Woman. I can't imagine that in the "trinity" of Nintendo, anyone aside from Smash (which really is an unfair comparison) sells in the Mario/Pokemon/Zelda range.

It's an interesting discussion to me, at least.

I don't know how well this will play out in terms of participation, but I thought this could be a fun little game. For this project, YOU have the opportunity to put together a roster of superheroes (and villains), and I will rank the team based on how much potential I think they have as a franchise. You don't have to be detailed at all. Name your favorite characters, if that's all you want to do! I'd just love participation from the outset if you have any interest.

Now, the details:
-Teams can be no larger than ten characters and no smaller than four members. Sorry for you Legion of Super-Heroes fans or Galactic Trio fans out there.

-You can use pre-existing teams if you want. I will dock points on originality, of course, but if you want to just put up the Teen Titans roster and see how it will do, feel free.

-How much effort should you put in? I'm going to do all the real legwork, but you're welcome to give the roster and also a name for the team if you want. If you have any details you wish to include, I will make sure to save them so I can rate the concept as well. All you REALLY have to do is include the roster, however.

-You may only use characters that have debuted in comics or are owned by DC/Marvel. So feel free to include a character like Hellboy if you wish.

-You may use some villains if you wish, but please do not include a villains-only team. Even the Suicide Squad has a couple token good guys.

-You may create up to five roster for now. Check the thread regularly, however, because I may increase the number of nominations.

Also, if you want to participate but don't have any ideas yet, just post in the thread so I know to watch out for your nominations.

You don't need comic knowledge to participate really! I'm looking forward to just having fun with this little project and chatting it up with all of you about which teams seem the coolest.

If Braun has "cashed in" without the contract, technically WWE refs and administration have officially sanctioned a title match. It was just sanctioned without the proper credentials; Braun would be the title holder and, if he hasn't signed the contract that was in the briefcase, Owens would hold the contract which he could technically use. However, he could also be prosecuted for theft. Since the match WOULD be sanctioned, Braun could win, technically pulling one over on the WWE kayfabe hierarchy.

you're telling me this guy remembers this stuff from a job 30 years ago?

I don't doubt the guy worked on the movie, and visited your store

I'm telling you the guy appears to have worked on the movie, came into my store, and relayed to me information which I believed. If you don't believe him, that's fine.

I myself remember exactly what happened to me on 9/11. I was in 6th grade. I couldn't tell you what happened the day before or after. People recall information differently from one another.

I've never heard of this Tommy Lee Jones meme until seeing it on b8 and googling it

what are the chances that some random extra on the set of a movie 50 years ago would go to a comic book store and specifically talk about this meme in great detail like it happened a week ago?

It wasn't a week ago.

If you had read the thread, he came in looking at comics and I got into a conversation with him about his line of work. That's just standard conversation, getting to know people. When he mentioned he had appeared in Batman Forever, I asked him about his role and so forth. Because I myself was aware of the old Buffoonery stuff, I asked him if he was aware of any ill will between Jones and Carrey because I was curious and it interested me.

I mean, there's a quick way to spot check the veracity of this entire thing. Did anyone ever go and look for that scene? Do we see the thug who got kicked in the chest? Scarlet, does he actually look like the guy you met IRL? Granzon, does this character actually appear in 5 other scenes? Those are some quick ways to determine how much of this story is unless the liar was very thorough on their details.

If he's lying, he did a really convincing job. I watched the opening fight scene and it matches his little details, like the thug being kicked and falling down off-camera and that the thug had to wear a leather jacket while the others around him wore leather vests. I also saw a website listing the guy's name (Joe Kent) with a list of films he appeared in. It wasn't his personal website but I guess it's possible he gave that information to the website.

It would be a lot of work for such a minor thing to fabricate.

I don't understand what your problem with me is. I came to the board that day, really excited to share something that happened in my shop because it had some minor significance to several older threads here on Board 8. And what we do on a message board is share and communicate. Instead, you have this bizarre dislike for me (despite never interacting with me ever before this event), and you made this assumption that I've made up a story that would be utterly, utterly pointless to make up. I also clearly said I was paraphrasing. I corrected some of the guy's grammar and I cut out some of the nonessential filler conversation during the stories as anyone would do if they were trying to distill the essence of a conversation.

I don't like someone impugning my character whether it's directly or indirectly, and if you have issue with me, be an adult and say it like an adult. Don't titter in the corner like a schoolchild. You're taking one of the rare instances in my generally mundane work life that was worth sharing and tarnishing it. It's not like I post that often with personal life information, and this just further suggests to me that it isn't worth it because bottom-dwellers on this board have to pervert something that generally was awesome for me into something I now will never bring up on the board because other people here will see this thread and, by association, think less of me.

I did a Top 100 Marvel characters ranking, and I never did that for DC!

DC is the top and bottom of the comic bell curve because they are more creator driven and experimental. Marvel is more about universal cohesion and brand prioritization, so it is the entirety of the middle of the comic bell curve.
