Im surprised people buy games they dont play. Normally, when I buy a game, I at least play it within days. And normally, the day I get it...

Everything I buy I intended to play. In some cases it takes so long I change my mind. I bought Fallout 3 along with Uncharted so many years ago. At the time I didn't have the mouse so F3 sat and sat. I got more games and never found the time for F3. A couple games I bought like Furi or Sky Force Anniversary became freebies before I opened the disc so those didn't need to be opened.

Because I buy games only on sale I'm usually way behind everyone else. It goes on the backlog which I whittle down while waiting for the next batch of discounted software.

I agree with you on everything but this one. Hotline Miami is definitely hard, and the sequel is crazy hard. The first one is beatable with a bit of patience, but I don't blame anyone who complains that 2 is too hard, because it really is.

Hard? Try terrible. Worst top down shooter I've ever seen, quit by level 5 and wished I got my money back. All you did was make noise and hope you had enough ammo as things funnel through a door. One of the very few stinkers I couldn't be bothered to finish. Tried on Vita in case that matters.

The main Bloodstained game does look like it could be a little rougher though, based on my recollection of the trailer

I played through it, was ok. Wasn't as refined as MMX of course. It could probably get there if they made more. MM 1 is a weird game. MM 2 is where the series hit its strong points. Unfortunately sequels aren't guaranteed these days.

Are you saying youd rather waste money? Because you can still go do that. I usually like to save money, though. I would normally rather buy a game myself. But Im not gonna be mad if I get the display item. Do I think it should be less? Yeah. But Ill still pay new price as long as its still new. Which it is. No wrapper means I dont have to waste time tearing it off, anyway. And the wrapper is going to go in the trash.

In the end, if you really care that much about the plastic, then ask for a wrapped copy if they have one.

We have different definitions of what we consider new, just like Gamestop apparently does. I would rather have a fully sealed one that little kids didn't wipe their snot on, sneeze on or that people touched the open case and everything else with their bare hands after running out of the bathroom without washing their hands.

Besides which at 70% off most clearance stuff from Target and even Walmart beats many Gamestop prices by leaps and bounds.

Is that your best argument? Geez, you're more likely to catch that crap from a door handle or shopping cart.

Discs don't have a limited shelf life. 'New' is just a word, for me the thing to look for is the condition of the disc/case. I mean if you've ever gotten something from Gamefly those are practically new. Arguing over cellophane is silly if it saves $30. Then really it's just inventory control. You go to BB and they got those plastic boxes. Targ or TrU use locked shelves.

Except that some of those 'practically new' discs from Gamefly and/or Redbox have big chips missing off the edges of them that sometimes make them not work after a while.

Either way I'd rather buy a 70% off new and sealed clearance game from Target versus a $30 opened and not new (to me) game from Gamestop.
Opened isn't the same as used. New cars aren't exactly taped shut and rolled across the country. You all are just using this as a crazy reason to bash GS.

Try the experiment I mentioned above at a random Gamestop with a game you know you're going to keep anyway. See what they say. That's what amused me about their policy of opening new games to make display cases. When they do it it's magically still "new". If I do it right in front of them, it's somehow no longer new. That, to me, is bullshit.

As for 'bashing' Gamestop, they have SOME decent sales at times. Last thing I bought from them was Constructor for PS4 for $5. It was indeed 'newsed'. But it was $5. If it's a $40-50 game and 'newsed' then there's an issue. But for a cheap game that likely nobody even looked at the case of, so it stayed truly like new, then I'm fine with the opened as new thing.

I won't buy a game if the box is awful. Never seen a damaged disc yet.

For me it's whoever is first to $30. New or used. Yes I've seen clearance sales that beat used prices. But like for the recent BF, GS had the lowest price first on TR, Astro Bot, and AC Odyssey. New. Because people don't trade in games as frequently I'll admit it's getting harder to find used prices reaching my price point before new copies do.

Yeah there literally is no difference between that. But the thing is with Gamestop is they don't do it like that anymore. They use to only have one out as a display copy and now they seem to open every single one except for the high ticket games.

Because they have so much variety to stock, they aren't ordering 100 copies like the bad stores. Maybe they'll get 5 or 10 so yeah there's a chance you'll get the display. I mean back when I wanted the SE of Hyperdimension Neptunia my closest shop had the only one in 25 miles. They had 2 of the base model PSVR's on launch day. It's a tiny store in a shopping plaza, there isn't a large back room for this stuff.

Moral of the story is the condition is the most important. If I get a game to play will anyone be able to tell if there was once a wrapper or not?

I typically buy quite a few games as well yet Gamestop is the only place where I have bought a "new" game that's opened already.
I don't get that seal too often. Returning games is rare for me and I understand why they'd limit it. People would treat them like rentals.

I don't usually return games often either. But the thing is to me new means buying something in a factory sealed package.

Once it's been opened it's considered used to me regardless of who opened it. So excuse me for wanting a factory sealed item that hasn't been subjected to innumerable people's snot, saliva and/or other bodily fluids from their filthy hands manhandling the case, artwork and any possible manual.
Nobody is making you shop at GS. For the most part we're talking about buying games for ourselves. If you actually need a wrapped product for a gift then make sure it's wrapped.

If you don't mind then that's fine. That's your thing. But, AGAIN, to me once it's opened it's USED and it should NOT be able to be sold as new.

Otherwise it should be sold as used with a decent shopworn discount.

@DPsx7

Because some of us like the visceral joy of ripping into the plastic that games are sealed in and breathing in that 'new game smell' that first time you open the case?

Not only that but if you buy a 'newsed' game and the clerk forgets to put that little clear plastic seal on it that denotes it was the last copy many times the stores will refuse to allow you to return it. With a truly SEALED copy you can. Sometimes you change your mind after buying something.

Finally people buy them as gifts for other people. Do you really think that it's appropriate to give somebody an already opened game as a gift? I don't.

"Their sales suck" is the best you can come up with? Digital sales are on par and often better than retail sales. Especially when you consider bundles.

I'm not saying GS isn't good for a bargain here and there. Not sure why you're so hung up on defending them. That you write off digital sales en masse goes to show how profoundly ignorant you are on this subject.

The line right after explains why they're bad. Discs drop in price, digital doesn't.

Says who? Problem with that comment is they're only looking at the totals not the breakdown. Physical game versus digital game, disc wins. However if you're boosting the digital numbers by adding DLC or subscriptions (obviously can't be on disc) then you're not getting a fair comparison. There's a clear demand for discs for a variety of reasons. Digital is not taking over anytime soon.

I don't have a personal stake in GS, all I want are the most games for the least amount of money. GS's B2G1 sales are useful. I just read these complaints from obviously inept people and go 'that sounds like a you problem, not a them problem'. How entitled do you need to be to bitch about a lousy wrapper on your game? The simple fact that by the time they are giving any kind of actual discount on used games at all (and not selling it for $5 less then full retail) there is almost always a sale on the new game that is cheaper then the used versions at gamestop.

What?

Lets use Assassin's Creed Odyssey as an example.

It's currently on sale new at gamestop for 59.99 and used for 54.99.

Meanwhile I bought it form Amazon during a sale for $27.

Now they did have it on sale at gamestop as well, but it was more expensive (mid 30's?). Steam had it for 40, and might still. Green man gaming had it for 30 something and I had a coupon to bring it down to within a few dollars of $27 (should have just done that but I had amazon credit).

I got AC Odyssey and the new TR for $27 each at GS for BF. Zon probably price matched 'em.

I see better prices than their used prices all the time. This is why you shop at multiple stores. Still I've gotten some great deals from GS by being smart about it.

The only epic fail is your idiotic post.

It is rather ignorant. On top of humble bundles and Steam sales, Xbox and PlayStation have sales almost every week on digital games. Homeboy must be living under a rock.

Their sales suck. By the time a digital game is half price the disc has been that low several times. Witness took months to drop to $10. The 'sale' on the SotN remake was a crappy $3 ($17 total or so). I don't expect to see Beat Saber hit $10 for a long time. But on the plus side by waiting it out I've gotten disc versions of games like Firewatch, Mighty 9, Alienation, Rush of Blood, Furi, Job Sim, etc.

It's not the only shop I go to but I have 3 GS's in the area and one is my closest retailer of gaming. A little wrapper doesn't mean anything to me, new or used it's all about the condition of the game and case. I mean we're going to open it eventually right?

If I had to suggest anything I'd prefer a slightly bigger store, a few less collectibles and more focus on retro gaming (which only works if people sell their games there), and price matching. Like was said it's the only place to get less mainstream games.
