Even I, as cynical as I am about religion, don't actively protest and push the idea of a godless universe. To me anyone doing that is just as bad as the converse. You don't NEED to accept that you have nothing waiting for you beyond the grave. There's no merit in driving that fact in like a stake just the same as insisting someone accept Jesus Christ as the savior and way to eternal life is equally as unnecessary to continue living a meaningful life in what time you have. I inform people that I think their belief is not grounded in reality, sure, but I end it there. It's fine if you want to give yourself hope for what lies beyond this life, true or not, but infusing it with hatred for gays, racism, politics, and all the other stuff that has zero basis in any belief system and is only motivated by brainwashing people into accepting a certain viewpoint is unacceptable.
