Not sure what you mean by shots. Hopefully I'll answer whatever you meant. Foul ball..... When you get there look for the 2 very tall yellow poles. That's the foul pole. Follow that down and then follow the White lines on the field that go all the way to home plate. Anything outside of those lines is Foul, anything inside is Fair. If the ball hits the pole, it's Fair and it's a Home Run. Scoring works by Runs. Cross home plate that's a run. Somebody hits a Home Run they get to run the bases and score, and anyone on base at the time gets to score as well. A 3 run dinger/Homer/bomb/shot would be a home run that scored 2 people and the batter. The Pitcher, who throws the ball to the batter, can do a Pick Off attempt by throwing it to the base where a Runner (offense) is and can try to Pick Him Off (get him out). That's why he threw to a base instead of the batter. 9 innings game. Top and a Bottom. Away team, Mets, will bat first. Dodgers, home team, bats last. Now if after the Top of the 9th the Dodgers are winning, the games over. If the Mets are winning or it's Tied, it goes to the bottom of the 9th. Now this bottom inning is a do or die for the dodgers. They either need to win or tie. If it's a tie then the game goes until someone wins. From the bottom of the 9th on and every bottom inning from then on, if the Dodgers score a single run it's over. You got 9 positions as well. 1- pitcher 2- catcher 3- first base 4- second base 5- third base 6- short stop 7- left field 8- center 8- right field You might hear "a 1 to 4 to 3 double play." That simply means the pitcher got the ball after it was hit, threw it to 2nd base to get one guy out and then they threw it to 1st base to get the other runner out. Double play. There's triple plays, but you probably won't see that. Make sure you get a beer and some peanuts. Get some ice cream in a little baseball helmet bowl. Get the dodger dog. Batters get 3 strikes until they're out. 4 balls and they get to go first base for free. Strikes are give or take from the chest to the knees, and has to cross the white plate. Anything that doesn't, that's a Ball. Foul tips count as strikes until you get 2 strikes. Then they don't count as anything. You can see someone hit 15 foul balls and it's still his At Bat. 3 outs ends the inning. Catch the ball, get the ball to the base before the person, or tagging the person with the ball. Force plays. If a Runner has to go to the base then the ball just needs to beat them there. So for instance, if a batter hits the ball no matter what he has to go to first base. Ball just needs to get there while the defensive player has his foot on the base (the white pillow looking thing) before the runner touches the base. Now if it's not a force play then the runner has to be tagged. That's where nobody is behind you (I'm on 2nd, another runner on 1st.) So a batter hits a ball and I try to score from 2nd base and I was the only person on base, then the defense has to tag me to get me out. Sure there's more, but that's a good start. Baseball games are fun as shit. Get some brew, some food and just relax. --- |
