Tl;dr version
- You can get roughly 40k orbs per level, more at higher difficulties.

- Abilities cost around 10k and go up with higher tiers. The highest tiers cost around 35k orbs.

- The most expensive ability they saw cost 3mil orbs, and it's not an attack.

- Revives cost 1.5k orbs to revive with 30% health, 3k orbs to revive with starting hp, and 7.5k orbs to revive with full hp.

- The second time you revive the costs go up to 7.5k, 15k, and 37.5k orbs respectively.

And this. Orb gain and costs are slightly inflated from previous games, likely due to the new revive mechanic, but you're not going to be forced into buying orbs to make progress.

There are also several tweets out there from producer Matt Walker confirming that progression will not be gimped and will function much like previous DMC games.

And given that Capcom is desperately doing everything they can for the fans with this game, I tend to believe him. It seems to be a similar situation to DMC4SE - they're there for lazy/bad players who need the leg up.

Majima's minigame is way better.

Abuse Mr. Shakedown for more money, Kiryu has an ability you can get from Bob that makes it to where he gives you more back than he takes. Save up a bunch, lose to him, beat him to get it back and more, rinse and repeat, earning more and more each time.

Majima can't abuse Mr. Shakedown like that but his minigame isn't nearly as money intensive.

It's worth doing it to full completion ASAP as it's how you unlock Kiryu's final fighting style. Obviously if you feel like you're getting burnt out move on with the plot for a bit.

Majima's equivalent (which is a completely different minigame) also unlocks his final fighting style.

As long as orb gain in game isn't crippled to encourage purchases I'm not really worried about it, it's just a leg up for people who are lazy/bad at the game. DMC4 SE's orb gain was actually increased IIRC.

Iron Spider/Big Time/Last Stand/Spirit Spider/Fear Itself were probably my top five.

Fear Itself I kind of wish the gaunlets were less bulky but I love the Tron lines and the general concept of the suit as "Stark gives up his literal sobriety in a gamble sacrifice to Odin in order to have access to Odin's forges to make weapons for Avengers combining Stark tech with Asgardian stuff to fight Odin's asshole brother" because that's the dumb comic bullshit I'm into.

Ending and general game spoilers

The entire endgame was super emotional and I appreciate the sequel hooks spread throughout. Big props to Yuri Lowenthal, his performance throughout the game was great but the last boss scenes and the final scenes he just knocked it out of the park.

This is probably my favorite version of classic Otto, too, and the first time I've really sympathized with him. Still think I like current antihero Otto a little bit more, though.

Seems we'll get playable Miles and Green Goblin/Venom as villains in the sequel. Really hoping for a boss fight where you play as Miles against Peter in the symbiote suit, I think that'd be an awesome hook.

I had a concept where the Body Swap team would have to go undercover as a family with Psylocke and Ock posing as Loki and Billy's parents and that idea amused me.

Also love the image of trying to cram several of the mystic team into Robbie's Hell Charger in order to travel somewhere. Or just the cool image of Hellboy riding shotgun with Ghost Rider.

I've already activated all the towers and collected all the backpacks. I haven't even done any main missions beyond the intro.

I played far enough to get the advanced suit and the ability to make more suits then went around and hit every tower. I have about half of the backpacks but I love that each one gets a little description.

What I'm happy about most in this game is how so far they've managed to bring stuff from lesser known parts of Spidey's lore like Yuri Watanabe and Mister Negative. It's actually really nice to have them be focused in this game as much as they have been, because I don't think they've been in much of anything before. I'm still in the early-ish part of the game, but I'm sure there will be more obscure stuff in this as well.

Kudos to Christos Gage for his writing of this game. I've always really enjoyed his Spider-Man stuff.

I'm enjoying this element, too, I've always really liked Mister Negative.

My backlog is pretty bad too but I've been making a dedicated effort to get through it for the past two months or so. DQXI got pushed back for me because of said backlog (lots of JRPGs already) since I figured out of the two Spidey would easier to get through.

It's very much an Arkham inspired Spidey game with the open world type stuff that previous Spider-Man games had but it's super well polished and incredibly fun to play. There's also some character action game influence in the combat with launchers into air combos and off the wall attacks. I'm still pretty early in the game so I can see the combat getting more depth as you get upgrades - there's a way yank enemies back into the air to keep air combos going which sounds neat.

Web swinging is incredible, probably the best it's ever been. You can cover so much ground so fast if you're good, but you do have to actually pay attention to where and how you're swinging. No attaching weblines to clouds here.

There's a ton of suits available in the game and they each seem to have their own unique super, but the supers aren't locked to the suits and can be swapped around. Unlocking the suit unlocks the super. For instance I'm rocking the game's default suit with the white spider but I swapped its default power for the Iron Spider arms.

The amount of Spider-Man fanservice (and to a lesser extent Marvel fanservice) is off the charts.

Anyone else grab it?
