PrinceKaro 08/15/18 11:29:14 AM #278 | Karo: So Stu has to go to a theme park to fix one of his malfunctioning inventions, and for some reason all the babies come along. The park in question is themed after a godzilla-like Japanese TV show, which logically means the park celebrating it would be in France. Despite the film's title, the fact that everyone is in Paris is completely inconsequential and irrelevant to the plot or anything else going on. The inbred little cretins cause all sorts of trouble at Stupid Dinosaur Land while a child-hating corporate executive in charge of the theme park tries to seduce Chuckie's dad so she can get a promotion. It's honestly just Bebe's Kids with white people and even uglier children. Anyway, many gross out scenes and godfather parodies later, the kids commandeer an animatronic dinosaur and destroy half of the city in an attempt to stop Papa Chuckie from marrying this bitch. After they succeed, they go home and he instead hooks up with this random japanese chick he just met in order to help the show meet it's ethnic diversity quota. The babies destroy that wedding too with a cake fight, making it the third wedding these brats have ruined in one movie. I don't think I've seen a movie that makes a stronger case for birth control than this one. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/15/18 11:28:20 AM #277 | Stifled: The Godfather parody? Singing sumo wrestler waiters? People not allowed in the state of Kentucky? Haha oh wow, Rugrats, you cheeky kids you! I was a bit skeptical of this movie since this was when I checked out of the show as a kid. But let me tell you, its a quality film. Child neglect on a global level? Check. An invention even larger in scale than the Reptar Wagon? Check. Finally addressing Chuckies deepest desire in the most heartwarming and satisfying way possible? Check and check. The show may have suffered from too many character syndrome at this point, but this movie could have easily been a beautiful ending if they were looking for one. I submit for your headcanon approval: Rugrats in Paris: The Series Finale. By the way, they totally jipped Suzy and her family out of a trip to Paris. Bad. Traviss Opinion: The multiple times Who Let the Dogs Out played got Travis dancing and smiling. He didnt actually care about the movie beyond that and just played with his cars. Charon: Another well made and fun adventure for these tykes. I really enjoyed the battle between Reptar and Robosnail; what a great throwback to old monster movies. Chuckie's quest to find a mother is endearing and it's interesting to see him at the helm as main character for once. Even though it flowed in quite a predictable manner, it did flow correctly at least. I don't think it had quite the touch the first one did, but there's still some magic there as well. Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo thought a list of veiled references designed for adults that are force fed into the scripts of childrens shows despite the target audience for said references walking away from the television while their child stares idiotically at the flashing images on screen, tongue lolling out of their mouth vacuously, was worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you find yourself pondering this specifically during a scene near the end that featured a Godfather gag sequence. The Godfather. What child has watched the Godfather? Is there a large bleedover of Godfather viewers and Rugrats aficionados? Is there a secret link between the demographics of both franchises? Do you all see what Im talking about here? This is Dreamworks syndrome but taken to a further, more head-scratching extreme. It shows that the so-called writers of these films just dont have their finger on the pulse of what makes a family film work and find themselves wandering lost in a script that is screaming out in agony, searching for plot. Rating: 14/100 Snake: The Movie? Is there a normal Rugrats in Paris? If so, why didnt they just leave it at that. Why did it need to be a movie? Its even worse than the first film, and just as headache inducing. Theres a really weird Godfather parody at the beginning that feels really out of place and painfully unfunny. The animation is crap, and as you can expect, so is everything else. Red: No one is allowed to have single parents ever, so now we get a movie with the dumbest most obvious relationship setup ever. Meanwhile there is a fake wedding plot and for some reason the children have to be kidnapped because a bunch of babies that no one can understand are going to endanger a wedding? I'm not sure, it never makes a lick of sense and gets worse the more you try to think about it. Dumb setup movie to intrudoce a new character to a show that by this time had probably long overstayed its welcome. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/15/18 11:28:13 AM #276 | 12. Rugrats in Paris: The Movie Johnbobb: 6 JONA: 6 Genny: 6 Inviso: 8 Stifled: 10 Charon: 11 Scarlet: 22 Snake: 24 Red: 25 Karo: 27 Total Score: 145 Johnbobb: This falls into some of the same issues as the first movie. Things like recurring toilet humor and outdated licensed music stops it from holding up as well as it could've over time. Still, it's a huge step up from the previous film, as it all takes place in a more interesting environment, and focuses primarily on Chuckie (who's always been the best character, let's be honest). Most importantly, there's actually a powerful and surprisingly moving story at its core, delicately dealing with the rather heavy subject of a young child with a dead mother and his single father trying to move on. JONA: I really liked the focus on Chuckie here, since he was my favorite as a kid. I also liked the Paris and park setting. Man, I wish Godzilla was as popular as Reptar is in the Rugrats world. Fun movie. Genny: Rugrats in Paris: The Movie is in my opinion, an example of a sequel that actually improves on the previous installment (take notes, A New Generation!) For one, it actually has an antagonist, and Coco's pretty entertaining to boot, and it has a theme anyone could connect with. Most everyone has experienced a loss of some sort at some point. It might not be someone as important as a wife or a mother, but anyone who couldn't sympathize with Chuckie at the mother-child dance (is that even a real thing) is a heartless monster. I feel like the addition of Kimi wasn't fully realized as they didn't do enough with her character to distinguish her other than "I know this place", "I live here", or "Here's a shortcut". She ended up being more a tour guide than an actual character, and her personality is kind of a blend of Phil and Tommy. If anything Kimi's used more as a proxy to further connect Kira and Chas Finster. That gripe aside, it was a cute movie. I'm glad Spike's sidequest to get a girlfriend wasn't a complete waste of time, and I enjoyed the shameless Disney references sprinkled throughout their date. I also immensely enjoyed the parody scenes of The Godfather, though it did kind of end up making me want to watch one of those films instead. Inviso: EVERYTHING the first Rugrats movie did wrong, this one does its best to correct. It still has a lot of the same trappings (there is an overemphasis on bodily functions from Phil & Lil, but nowhere NEAR as much as in the first movie, and the plot becomes extremely outlandish towards the end of the movie), but its easier to overlook because it feels like theres a lot more HEART in this movie. I guess it comes down to the fact that I find Chuckie a lot more compelling that Tommy, and I find Chuckies role as the only child of a single-parent household a lot more interesting than giving baby Tommy a baby brother. The Mothers Day episode is right up there with Hey Arnolds Christmas episode as one of my favorite Nickelodeon memories, so having a whole movie dedicated to Chuckies search for a mom was actually really nice. The new characters work well, and its a pretty solid movie, for a kids film. It certainly stands out as having quality compared to most of the films on this list so far. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/14/18 7:08:34 PM #259 | Stifled: This is a strange concept. On one hand, the jungle is the ideal setting for the show, but staying there doesnt differentiate it enough to justify a movie. On the other hand, a boarding school, while different, is a stupid setting for a show about animals. And after they go to the trouble to change scenery, they go back to the jungle within 20 minutes. Its such a waste of time that could have been spent fleshing out and building up the poachers more. As it is, I find myself questioning the existence of this movie. It could have easily been a TV special instead. And while the content of the movie isnt exactly terrible, its just a bunch of ideas that clash and make it seem pointless. I have to fault a movie for failing as a concept, even if its technically better than a few things I ranked above it. Traviss Opinion: I thought for sure a movie with a ton of animals would amuse Travis, but it did not. I prompted him to look a few times and he told me the animals on the screen when I did. But he was just not having it. Karo: The Wild Thornberrys is a nickelodeon series about a family who lives in the untamed wilderness, and judging from the both the daughter's ability to speak the language of beasts and the family's appearance, it is clear that their ancestors mated passionately with animals on multiple occasions (or at the very least with their own siblings). So anyway, Eliza Thornberry tangles with some poachers, and because of this her parents just now realize that the jungle is actually an unsafe place to raise children and ship her off to school in england. Their other two kids they apparently dont give a damn about and they are fine with them being eaten by a boa constrictor or whatever. The whole school trip has absolutely nothing to do with the plot of the movie, no sooner is Eliza settled in than she has a vision and sneaks back to africa to protect the environment. Why even have her go there in the first place? Not only is it irrelevant, it is completely out of place with the series as a whole. It honestly feels like they just took a script from an episode of the TV series and just stretched it out until you can hear the bones and ligaments snapping. Much like the TV show the characters, particularly Eliza, are designed in such a grotesque manner as to cause real physical illness. There seriously needs to be a restraining order put on Gabor Csupo to keep him from drawing any more bug-eyed, big-lipped mounds of human flesh with a ballpoint pen while drunk and calling it 'art'. Nickelodeons tiresome brand of humor involving flatulence, wedgies and such is of course present in full force, and makes what little gravitas the story has impossible to take seriously. It is just a thoroughly unpleasant viewing experience that should be thrown into the darkest depths of cartoon hell to be flayed alive for all eternity. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/14/18 7:07:47 PM #258 | Genny: I absolutely loved The Wild Thornberries growing up. As a kid, it was my favorite show on Nickelodeon (but then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked), but as an adult maybe this kid who's only real power is the ability to talk to animals wasn't the coolest thing in the universe... ... NAH! It's still pretty rad. Eliza's more than just her gift. She's clever, brave, selfless, and resourceful. She's also rather ugly. In fact it never really struck me as a kid that the animation style of the show is kind of off-putting. And why does Darwin the chimp, who admits that he shares 98% of human DNA in the movie have long doggy ears instead of big human-like ears? Lots of weird aesthetic choices were made here, but enough about the animation and more on the movie. So the reveal of the villain(s) was so obvious that it was laughable that the movie would even bother trying to play it off for drama. Hey I said Eliza was clever, not intelligent; there is a difference between the two. If anything Darwin's the intelligent one, and I really liked their relationship throughout the movie, and the fact that it was tested by the inability to communicate at one point. If there's one thing the movie didn't pull off well other than obvious baddie is obvious, it was the increased focus on Eliza's adventures in boarding school and Debbie's adventures in the wilds of Africa. As a show about a tomboy who loves nature, that is not the kind of content anyone would pay to see. I get it, those two are completely out of their element and hilarity ensues, but the movie spends way too long focusing on that instead of on Nigel or something that might have been more interesting. Red: Bad parenting is kind of a nickelodeon staple I guess. Hell even the animal parents that let their kids run off with a human child are bad parents in this one. This is one of the movies on the list most hurt by not having a background of knowledge on the series. I mean, I'm pretty sure Eliza has a brother that shows up a couple of times and for some reason hes full savage or something. On top of the fact her animal talking powers have stipulations and other things like that. This is also clearly from an age where all characters had to be ugly, because that was a thing I guess. Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo thought a list that featured virtually every single Nickelodeon cartoon ever made would be worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you find yourself remembering that, by and large, Nickelodeon was the dimestore Cartoon Network, which was an animated company that desperately wanted to be a competitor with the standard Saturday morning cartoon manufacturing company, which in turn just wanted to recreate the success of Mel Blanc, who never truly found the success of Disney. Anyways, this was a movie that felt like I was watching Tarzan Jr., and at least the discovery of Flea in the voice cast tickled me during the credits. Rating: 18/100 JONA: I always thought the show was boring and this was just like the show. Nothing outright bad, just boring. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

The Wild Thornberrys Movie Inviso: 3 Charon: 7 Snake: 9 Johnbobb: 9 Genny: 9 Red: 13 Scarlet: 18 JONA: 23 Stifled: 25 Karo: 29 Total Score: 145 Inviso: Despite the blatantly obvious twist that only takes about fifteen minutes from set-up to reveal, I enjoyed this movie. I was a big fan of the Wild Thornberries as a kid (mainly because Eliza was voiced by Lacey Chabert, who was Penny in Lost in Space and I LOOOOOOOVED her, fight me Poke), so this felt right in tune with the series. You have a lot of stake-raising in this film, from Eliza starting out the movie by getting a cheetah cub poached, to Eliza getting sent back to England for boarding school, to Eliza having to reveal her powers, thus losing them in the process. I just enjoyed the fact that Elizas character felt like she was struggling with real conflict throughout the film. Something bad happens that shed promised not to let happen, so she has to set out and make things right, and she ultimately does so without even needing her powers. Its a solid plot and I liked it. Rare for me to not pause a movie once Ive started it. Charon: Quite enjoyable, even if a little predictable at times. I feel like the diversion to England was unnecessary at best and sort of takes you out of what this shown is most known for, but it was nice to see Eliza get a chance to make some actual human friends too. The best part of a film like this one is how it adds to the mythos of the show a lot by breaking one of the cardinal rules of Eliza's powers, and revealing them to others. The fact that now her sister knows what she can do changes the show greatly moving forward, and a great TV series based film will do this sort of thing. It removes the formulaic nature that can plague this type of film. All in all, it's just a well done movie based on a well done show. It was hard to go wrong. Snake: Surprisingly decent, Tim Currys Nigel is great and I though the set-up was fairly interesting. Its animated well and kept my interest throughout, cant ask for much more, especially on this list. Johnbobb: Im surprised how much I ended up liking this. In another movie I mightve hated the early couple minutes of exposition dump, but in a movie based on a TV show from the 90s I barely remember, it was actually super helpful, and filled me in enough on what was happening that I didnt feel like I needed to be a diehard fan of the show to keep up. Eliza is a honestly a compelling protagonist; her motivations never feel shallow or underdeveloped (which is a common problem among cartoon child protagonists). The supporting cast (except maybe Darwin) are likeable, fun and well-acted. The visuals are bright and pretty, the music is pleasant, and the jokes are legitimately funny. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/14/18 11:13:50 AM #244 | Red: The poor smurfs are doomed worse than ponies are, reduced to a single defining characteristic that will govern each and every action they will ever do for the rest of their lives. the poor smurfs get to be a single stereotype for the rest of their lives. Thats a pretty crappy existence. And then there is Smurfette, the single female in their civilization and apparently she is worthless. This plot is insanely cookie cutter and includes a death that is obviously going to get reversed because this is probably the most generic movie on the entire list. Also Smurfette still ends the movie with no defining characteristic, so she is still total outcast smurf if you really think about it. Azrael is a pretty awesome kitty, at least. Johnbobb: This is kind of a mixed bag, and not really in a good way. Im fully in favor of having more female Smurfs and making Smurfette into an actual character. But if this was their way of taking the Smurfs into a new, modern direction, this wasnt really the way to do it. You cant try to flesh out characters and also have them be defined by lazy stereotypes. That combined with subpar writing is why well never get a Disney-level Smurf movie, not matter how many times they reboot it, and having Dark Heart and the Care Bears praying for its revival isnt enough to save the franchise. Still, the animation is pleasantly cartoony and the voice cast is impressive (if absurdly underutilized) so I feel comfortable chalking it up to forgettable rather than terrible. JONA: The first 40 minutes are pretty dull and that's the amount of time it takes to get to the Lost Village. From there, there honestly are some entertaining character interactions but it's still not exactly a good movie. Stifled: The Lost Village is the story of how Demi Lovato painted herself blue, found a real life tumblr in the woods, and then overdosed on magical power to save her friends. And you know what? I actually kind of liked it. Focusing on Smurfette and removing the stupid live action stuff was a really good idea for rebooting this franchise. While the Smurfs have never really been my cup of tea, there was some decent character development going on here. And even better, there was some Smurf development too. Sure, we still dont know how they reproduce, but maybe now they themselves can figure it out. You know, cuz there are more smurfginas now. Also, the bunny scene showed us where Rian Johnson got his inspiration for that horse chase in The Last Jedi! Traviss Opinion: Travis, of course, liked Gargamels cat. Thats about it. Genny: This was easily the best Smurfs movie, but that's not saying a whole lot. I just don't understand how Sony thinks it's a good practice to keep pushing these things out while ignoring properties that could actually be interesting, new, or exciting like Popeye directed by Gendy Tarkovski. This was a fun, but very shallow adventure movie. Basically it's the film equivalent of swimming in the kiddie pool: kids will love it, I enjoyed it until the water got unnaturally warm. I can't even call the plot "twist" predictable as anyone with more than half a brain could've called it just by watching the trailer. At least the flora and fauna of the Lost World itself was pretty cool even if the inhabitants of the Lost Village were not. Fuck the dance party ending, but the animation looked fine. Snake: Made for kids, the humor is juvenile and the animation is lackluster. The voice acting is bland, the script is terrible, and like every piece of Smurf media, Its not for me. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/14/18 11:13:44 AM #243 | 14. Smurfs: The Lost Village Karo: 4 Inviso: 4 Scarlet: 13 Charon: 14 Red: 14 Johnbobb: 18 JONA: 20 Stifled: 21 Genny: 21 Snake: 22 Total Score: 151 Karo: This new CGI movie is an attempt to patch up the damage hollywood has done to the franchise in recent years, and for the most part it succeeds at this task. It is refreshing to see the smurfs cute again, rather then as hideous little blue orcs. Basically the story is Smurfette is feeling depressed that unlike the other smurfs she has no special trait or talent other than 'being a girl'. A series of events leads her to find another all-female village of smurfs thus solving the mystery of smurf reproduction at last. Cue a generic journey and some generic Gargamel hijinks and thats the whole film. Despite the generally one-note characterization of the little blue guys, the were some pretty funny bits of dialogue in places. However, the movie was as its best when it good-naturedly made fun of the franchise, and it is a shame it did not go further down that path then it did. The result is something charming and inoffensive, but is just your standard mid-tier CGI movie that follows a safe formula pretty much by the numbers. It almost seems as if they were so afraid creating an eldritch abomination in the vein of the two live-action movies that they took almost no risks whatsoever this time around. Inviso: You know, there are movies on these lists that really surprise you because they turn out decent when they really have no business doing so. Animation 2, that movie was Trolls. This list? Smurfs: The Lost Village. Here I was, expecting some stupid kids movie based on an existing property, and yet Smurfs managed to intrigue me. Going into this, my only knowledge of the Smurfs was the basic concept that the Smurfs are this little race of blue guys, and Smurfette is the one girl among them. Lo and behold, Smurfette is the main character of the story, trying to find her place in a world where she doesnt feel unique or special outside of her gender (a common criticism of old school kids show casts). And the movie is interesting because of this. Its a LITTLE formulaic, but it kept me intrigued and kept Smurfette at the forefront without overindulging in the side characters. And as a result, it managed to elicit a genuine emotional reaction from me at the ending. So Id say thats a win for this movie. Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo thought including this sequel to a live-action/animation hybrid film on this list was a good idea or even why it was worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you slowly come to the sad realization that every major voice in the film is clearly only in it for a paycheck. Every line is delivered with a definitive note of sad resignation, passionlessly floating like disembodied ghosts through a world of almost-but-not-quite magic. Possibly its because this movie feels lazily phoned-in throughout. In fact, its so lazy that I imagine they didnt include Lazy Smurf because they murdered him and used his blood to pen the script instead of ink in order to truly capture the essence of laziness embodied here. Rating: 26/100 Charon: Extremely impressive, visually speaking at least. From a story standpoint, it's not bad either really. I was interested to know they kept with Smurfette's comic storyline origin story but I thought the big reveal of the lost village itself could have been more exciting. Discovering it should have been a climax, but it felt like the movie was more interesting before they did. Mostly for the fact that Smurfette is the only girl initially and she was a creation, but these other female smurfs are not apparently. More backstory could have been useful. I did end up liking the main cast however, which was interesting since I didn't think the 3 that were picked to be that along with Smurfette were the correct choices. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/13/18 6:56:12 PM #235 | Charon: A very uncomfortable film to be sure. I have never been much of a fan and find their singing to be annoying, but the amount of panty shots here on the Chipettes is a bit hard to ignore. It's so over the line and I felt dirty the entire time watching this one. Beyond that, the plot is not super interesting as too many of these feature two bumbling idiots that can't seem to beat children at a game of wits. I'm not sure why all the adults in this universe and completely useless or how the chipmunks fall for the worst scam ever yet are then totally competent in the face of henchmen you'd guess would be more than capable. I think the animators through in as much prepubscent panties as they could to distract you from how thin and frail the plot was. There has to be some non-terrible reason for all that underskirting... right? --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/13/18 6:55:19 PM #234 | Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo thought a list comprised of high-pitched voices used in elementary school hearing tests in order to gauge the range of a childs auditory capacity was worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you are assaulted on both sides by Chips and Chipettes, each with their own grating, ear-bleeding form of vocal inexpression. The greatest villains in the universe would weaponize these voices and target hostile foreign powers, forcing them to capitulate against the most extreme, vile torture concocted in the history of Machiavellian power grabs. Rating: 22/100 Inviso: First of all, fuck Alvin and Brittany. It is NOT enjoyable watching these two self-centered brats order their pushover siblings around, while poor Simon and Jeannette get crapped on. Second, fuck the voice acting. Too damn high-pitched all around. Third, the animation is easily the best of the first eight movies on the list, which is amazing given the only one-year difference between Chipmunks and Transformers/MLP/Care Bears 2. I think the animation itself, combined with the relative inoffensiveness of the plot (its not mind-numbingly stupid like other movies Ive watched thus far) allows it to rank this highbut its still super dumb. Oh, and the music? Honestly, most of the songs were enjoyable. Not memorablebut they didnt annoy me whenever they started up. Johnbobb: God the animation here is unsettling. The Chipmunks look like I expected, but the humans are kind of terrifying by comparison, like they dont belong in the movie, but the craziness of it makes the chipmunk-only scenes look kind of cool. I never really minded the Chipmunks themselves. I fucking hate the voices but the characters have always been kind of silly and fun. They manage to be devious geniuses while also being idiots. Too bad the villains are crappy and the plot is ridiculous. The villains plan is quite possibly the DUMBEST plan Ive ever seen in a movie before, and its even DUMBER that it almost works. Snake: Surprisingly alright for an 80-minute endurance test of constant Chipmunk talking and singing. The plot is boring and predictable but it didnt totally melt my brain from badness like some other offenders on this list. Genny: We now present gratuitous panty shots and cultural appropriation the movie! The plot of this film is preposterous, but unlike one of the movies I've ranked below it in this list it does at least actually HAVE a plot that it sees through to completion. Sadly this whole movie is an excuse to perform 80s pop songs and make it appeal to kids because HA HA FUNNY HIGH VOICES KIDS LOVE THOSE! The villains' motivations in wasting a bunch of money to illegally sell diamonds makes no sense and the movie does a terrible job of explaining why they would humor the competition in the first place. Not to mention Alvin, Britney, and Theodore are all terribly annoying and greedy the whole movie long. Two of them undergo a redemption of sorts I guess, albeit one of them for the most useless sidequest in the history of sidequests, but I guess they had to discover the diamonds somehow or the only conflict would be about who's the better rock and roller or who's better at video games. Anyway despite some... disturbing choices the animation is quite crisp for an 80s movie. It's better than it looks on the actual show, which I can't say for a lot of these films. The only thing is that during some of the dances the chipmunks movements are almost TOO fluid- like disturbingly real. That's only complaint, you know other than the plot, and the motive, and the setting, and the characters... JONA: There's some decent animation and a decent song or two, but I just never was really into the Chipmunks. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/13/18 6:55:11 PM #233 | 15. The Chipmunk Adventure Karo: 2 Stifled: 6 Red: 12 Scarlet: 16 Inviso: 17 Johnbobb: 17 Snake: 19 Genny: 20 JONA: 22 Charon: 23 Total Score: 153 Karo: A pair of jewel smugglers use a balloon race between the Chipmunks and Chipettes as a cover for their dastardly deeds, and both of our of cute little trios are launched into a series of musical misadventures across the globe. The rationale behind this is that nobody would suspect youngsters of foul play, something that anyone who has been around kids at all will tell you very much otherwise. The smugglers also don't seem to be concerned about the fact that a bunch of talking teenage rodents flying into random foreign countries in hot air balloons without passports would actually generate quite a bit of unwanted attention, believe it or not. After our furry heroes travel through many very culturally insensitive depictions of world locations, the villains' deceit is discovered and everything is resolved with a generic cartoon chase scene. This film also boasts the most drastic variation of animation quality ever within a single movie. Over the course of the film the animation ranges from 'direct to video sequel' to 'disney renaissance' and everything in between. The transitions often happen mid-scene and are extreme enough to be noticed even by laymen. All in all it is decidedly above par for these kind of movies, and should be quite refreshing to someone who has only seen the excruciating live action films. Stifled: Ive always really liked these little guys. The original show was great. Even the newer Nickelodeon show with the weird computer animated graphics is pretty fun. But it doesnt get any better than this movie. Chipmunks vs. Chipettes in a balloon race around the world unknowingly smuggling diamonds! Thats pretty hardcore for a kids movie honestly. I mean sure, it takes a mountain of adult supervision failures to make it happen, but isnt that what 80s and 90s movies are all about? I love how action packed the movie is without really even having any direct fighting. Its more just the gang evading their troubles, yet it doesnt detract from the intensity. The songs are all great, though the Getting Lucky song during the snake charming sequence made me giggle. And oh dear lord the penguin song. That is a guaranteed cry every time I have ever watched it. Such a beautiful song. The two diamond thieves and their dog are hilarious too. Sometimes a bad villain can put a wrench in even the best movie, but luckily they fit right in! Traviss Opinion: This was definitely a favorite of his. He was glued to the screen the whole time. He loves balloons, especially of the large hot air variety. He was totally jamming to the music as well, particularly the battle song between the Munks and Ettes. Red: First off, I have to say that of all the characters that appear in any movie on this list, Miss Miller is above all the one most deserving of being thrown in jail. Through no fault of anyone but her own, she manages to drive on the wrong side of the road which somehow saves the day. Mind you, she is the perfect representation of how people actually drive at LAX, so I cant fault the movie entirely for this. Honestly, this could have been far worse of a movie than I expected(I did actually watch this one a ton as a kid, one of my cousins loved it), and was far less annoying than I feared. Way better than any of the recent live actiony Chipmunk movies at least. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/13/18 11:56:06 AM #204 | Karo: Based on a nickelodeon show about a little boy born with a disfiguring birth defect that caused his head to be four times the width of his body. In the film, a developer wants to build a shopping mall in the trashy ghetto where the kids live, and for some reason they object vehemently to the idea of having to move somewhere that doesnt reek of mildew and urine. So this is just some evil businessman kind of villain who is trying to make a profit while stepping on the little guy, right? Actually, no, the developer in question was the descendant of someone who was humiliated in some minor revolutionary war battle that took place where Arnold's neighborhood now stands, and he wants to destroy it as revenge. So yes, he went into business and built FutureTech Industries solely for the purpose of destroying a bunch of buildings that weren't even there in the 1700s. No kidding, this has got to be the most idiotic villain backstory ever created. The kids try to stop this by breaking into FutureTech's sensitive corporate headquarters multiple times, where they just have the run of the place because apparently the future of technology is no fucking locks on any doors. Though it might be mostly free of the kind of juvenile humor that plagues most nicktoon franchises, the production quality is drastically lower than the other films of those shows. The dark secret here is that this 'movie' was actually intended to be a made-for-tv special called 'Arnold Saves the Neighborhood', but instead they decided to toss it in theaters and charge full price for this piece of trash made on a tenth of the budget of their other movies. This is horrible even for Nickelodeon, and is a slap in the face of people who actually like the franchise. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/13/18 11:55:20 AM #203 | Johnbobb: So, like quite a few tv show movies, this one doesnt really do a whole lot more than a couple episodes of the show couldve. The thing it has going for it? Its a pretty alright show. Arnolds grandparents are still the highlight, and overall the movie holds up better than a lot of others from the same period. Animation still looks nice almost 20 years later. Not crazy original, but acceptable at worst. JONA: I really liked this show as a kid and enjoyed the Jungle Movie when it came out but this movie's not great. This movie was supposed to air on TV and it shows. There's not any good moments for any side characters. The only moment that involved side characters was the bit with Grandpa and the other boarders rigging explosives. The movie kinda plays things safe with the whole spy theme and there are really only 2 standout moments in the movie with those being the confession and the bus scene at the end. Snake: Surprisingly decent set-up for a plot but bad animation holds it back. Its ultimately harmless and brainless, not very well-told or funny. Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo even bothers to think he can make lists at this point. They arent remotely worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you find yourself wondering what the hell the point of Hey Arnold! Is. I have no idea. I cant for the life of me understand what this movie means culturally or societally. I cant figure out what demographic would care about this. Its not that there is a production error here making the film on unwatchable, or that the script is particularly bad. I just dont comprehend why this exists. Its just so unremarkable and mundane that I have to ask why Karo thinks we should waste our time watching things that seem to serve no purpose. Rating: 15/100 Red: I feel like children's cartoons where through this period where all characters had to have some weird disfigurement and that Hey Arnold may have started this stupid craze with its dumb football headed main character. This series never clicked for me on TV and the movie is a big miss as well. It kind of just has dumb need to spell everything out for you. We know the girl doesn't hate Arnold despite treating him like garbage, and then surprise surprise shes helping him all along. Its not really a surprise, the rest of the movie is kind of dumb in this way, making sure to spell out exactly what is going to move the plot forward, which will involve two dumb kids saving a town that it doesnt really seem like anyone really wanted to save anyway. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/13/18 11:55:06 AM #202 | 16. Hey Arnold!: The Movie Inviso: 5 Genny: 7 Stifled: 13 Charon: 13 Johnbobb: 15 JONA: 18 Snake: 20 Scarlet: 21 Red: 24 Karo: 28 Total Score: 154 Inviso: I believe this was the first movie on this list that I actually saw in theaters. And honestly, I was always a big fan of Hey Arnold! I thought it had a diverse cast of characters that made for interesting storylines, since it didnt always NEED to focus entirely on Arnold, but rather on the eccentric individuals in his life. The story of the movie is well-told. Its a typical David and Goliath situation with a mega corporation trying to tear down the very neighborhood thats so integral to the shows setting, and Arnold has to find a way to stop it. With the sole except of Bridgette, who I cannot remember existing before now, and Murray, who was probably a background character before now, the hero characters all come from within the universe of the show and dont behave out-of-character, and it ultimately makes for a thrilling plotline. Genny: Hey Arnold! was a show I loved as a kid. I always admired Arnold's positive yet down to earth and realistic attitude. It's great how the movie acknowledges this several times and that's what ends up saving the day. Well that along with the help of "Deep Voice" and I had to have a good laugh at that one. Deep Voice's identity was so damn obvious from the jump, but whatcha gonna do? The one thing I can't really forgive this movie for is that Helga had an out away from locking away the feelings that tormented her because everything was all on the table and she throws it away to go back to the status quo. I just don't understand why? The movie feels like a complete waste of time because nothing changes except that Arnold's home town becomes a national landmark. I get that it was planned for the show to continue after this point, but gosh. As an aside I love that Eugene's hopes for a musical number get quashed TWICE. HA! Stifled: On one hand, the premise of this movie is a bastard love child between no less than 4 episodes of the show, possibly more. On the other hand, once they get past the cloned aspects and get to the content unique to the movie, lots of fun can be had. If its possible to be thoroughly annoyed at the lack of originality of something while also enjoying the things it does that are new, Hey Arnold found that magical formula and put it in the theater. Helga as Deep Voice was pretty great and just adds to her stalker credentials. I mean she totally infiltrated that compound before Arnold and Gerald did and without spy gear. Thats hardcore. And you know what else is pretty great? No singing! Eugene tries but gets shut down. Thank you, Arnold. My only major non-related complaint is that Jungle Movie deserved the theater treatment over this. This easily could have just been another episode of the show, but Jungle Movie is THE movie. But thats more of a Nickelodeon error than the fault of this content. As it is, Hey Arnold The Movie is a fun ride if you can stop yourself from being annoyed at the copying of its own source material. Traviss Opinion: Travis really likes Hey Arnold. We binge watched most of the show together about a year ago. Then the Jungle Movie. Now this. He cuddled on the couch with me and watched it. Charon: The bigget flaw this movie had was not resolving the Helga/Arnold situation at all, but just letting it return to how it was before. That's a little unfortunate given that Helga finally came forward with her feelings in this film. However, this was still a surprisingly good movie. I wasn't sure this series could really be converted into a movie format, but it worked just fine. Bridget was kinda unbelievable but otherwise, the format worked well enough. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

PrinceKaro 08/12/18 8:50:55 PM #195 | Karo: This was made to be sort of a series finale to the long running animated sitcom about a family of neanderthals living in a surprisingly civilized city. As such, it has pretty much the amount of creative bankruptcy that you would expect. So the story is Fred ends up having to fill in for a secret agent that conveniently looks just like him, and of course he cannot tell his friends or family anything so all sorts of misunderstandings and awkward moments ensue as he ends up involved in spy intrigue across the caveman world. There is nothing markedly offensive about it, but it just results in turning into a dull, (poorly) animated James Bond movie, only with Bond as an overweight mentally disabled family man with no special abilities. Hanna-Barbara may have wanted to squeeze very last bit of money out of their most popular characters, but when it came to making this movie they probably should have Yabba-Dabba-Didn't. Inviso: This one started out with some actual potential. Not a LOT of potential, because it was still following a very 1960s slapstick style, but the plot at least SEEMED reasonable. Secret agent looks like Fred, gets incapacitated, Fred needs to pretend to be the secret agent. Fine, thats fun enough. Unfortunately, in order to drag the movie to a 90-minute runtime, you have a ton of padding. There are TWO Pebbles/Bam Bam songs in this movie. And theyre 1960s cartoon songs, so they suck. And ultimately, by the time the plot progresses to the end of the movie, everything becomes completely convoluted and the fun of a schlub having to fake secret agenthood is lost. Its just a mess. Charon: Cheesy, campy, James Bond-inspired animated film kinda... is ok? The females here certainly show what era they were from is one major criticism I can think of. I will say I was impressed with the villain reveal however, as I really did not see that coming. That said, for a man so talented he sure proved to be inept was the twist was revealed. Fred and Barney were enjoyable enough; except when they were singing. The musical content here was all over the place. I enjoyed the clearly Bond themed song or two, but Fred and Barney had no business having that song. The biggest offense was Pebbles' song though; totally out of place and nonsensical. Still, it's not that bad for what it is. Johnbobb: Cant help but feel this suffers just a little bit due to the time period (and spy parodies being done to death now) but the Flintstones has always maintained a certain goofy charm to it. Probably the best of the Hanna Barbera movies. Genny: Having regrettably not taken part in the Bond project, I still appreciated the espionage antics in The Man Called Flintstone... well as much as one can really appreciate a film where one doesn't care for any of the main characters. I'll put it this way, I'd rather watch this than The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas or Hit Rock Bottom, but I am not a fan of The Flintstones. That said, this one was at least fairly creative for a family film. I saw Tanya's double cross coming from eight miles away, but I was somewhat surprised that Triple X (no relation to Vin Diesel) was in fact the Green Goose all along, even though (and charon can attest to this) I questioned very early on in the movie why Chief Boulder would send Fred in as Rock Slag's double when he already had a legitimate master of disguise already in his employ that could've impersonated him. Beyond that one "twist" the obvious rock puns are abundant, the typical hijinks ensue, and the situational comedy that is a staple of the series is there. My favorite scene is when the two families are flying to France and Barney and Betty are in last class. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |

The Man Called Flintstone Stifled: 3 Red: 6 Scarlet: 14 JONA: 14 Snake: 15 Karo: 17 Inviso: 19 Charon: 20 Johnbobb: 22 Genny: 25 Total Score: 155 Stifled: Dude. DUDE! When I was a kid, this movie blew my mind. I LOVED James Bond and I really liked the Flintstones. So you can imagine how utterly confused I initially was at the premise of Fred Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin should kiss my ass and pay me royalties Flinstone becoming a spy. But at the same time, who cares how wacky it is?! Worlds were colliding that I didnt think possible and I loved it. And you know what? I still do! Sure, the music is inconsistent. Some tracks are pretty great, like the one that plays when they get to Paris. But then that weirdo song about tickles and shoes can go suck an egg. Regardless, none of it pulls you away from the experience because even the most random song breaks are simply daydreams that motivate Fred to continue his mission. All of the new characters are super fun too. Rock Slag is totally a prehistoric Bond. The Chief is M. Triple X is like an even more obvious Alec Trevelyan. Rocky and Bobo are a mish-mash of some of the best henchmen. And Tanya reminds me quite a bit of Anya Amassova with the charming, sneaky approach to spy work. I love this mashup because it adds to the scale of the story. It doesnt feel like a typical episode of the original show like some of these movies did because it ups the ante and changes things up. The classic Flintstone formula and character interaction is there, plus so much more. Traviss Opinion: Travis got really grouchy and took a nap during this one. Not his cup of tea. Not enough cats I suppose? Im sure he would have enjoyed the airplanes and rockets if he watched. Maybe next time! There will definitely be rewatches. Red: This movie actually set a pretty good blueprint for how to turn a TV show into a movie. Makes use of its exisitng casts, spoofs a better idea than they could come up with alone, and runs with it. Flintstones in a spy movie actually works in a strange way, and the dumb stuff they do that is "stone age" comparative to real life has actually always been creative in a stupid cartoon way, which is no exception here. Scarlet: You have to wonder why Karo thought a list of poorly executed concepts that attempt to break the mold of a preceding television entree and failing in an unsatisfying way was worthy of the time of Gauntlet Crew. Especially when you find yourself blankly viewing a film that attempts to take the Honeymooners concept and play it up as Get Smart while reaching not even a quarter of either shows heights. The mix of drug-addled animation sequences and plot-halting musical misfires would lead one to believe that this isnt worthy of ones time, but the initial idea, the concept behind the film, shouldnt be ignored on general merit. Rating: 26/100 JONA: It's The Flintstones but in a spy setting! You get pretty much what you expect and it's some decent fun. I'd rank it over a couple of Bond films. Don't let this writeup distract you from the fact that Fred Flintstone straight-up killed some people and everyone celebrated it. Snake: A muddled, confused James Bond/spy parody featuring characters I dont particularly care for. Like Yogi Bear, its way too long and the fact that the plot is cobbled together from three separate episodes doesnt help matters much. I dont like the animation here as much as Yogi either. --- https://imgur.com/ptVv7Hu all going according to the plan of BKSheikah this time... |
