Obviously the 2000 election mattered for a lot of things, between the Iraq war, the Republicans being the beneficiary of 9/11 and all that, but the only throughline I see from the result of 2000 to the result of 2016 is 8 years of Bush leading to 8 years of Obama leading to Trump, but I don't think those are the only possible ways that we get both of those things. Do you have something else in mind here?

We 100% dont get Trump without Obama. I think thats pretty clear.

Could Obama still have won in 2008 after 8 years of Gore? Its possible I suppose, but I think we dont get Obama without the Iraq War.

And Im also really factoring in the reality that Gore would have been much more proactive about climate change, and an important but underreported factor in Middle Eastern terrorist recruitment is that the region has suffered agriculturally due to climate change, leaving a lot more people feeling powerless to forge a peaceful, independent future.

1) Huge crisis, Trump f***s up the response badly enough that even most of his base starts turning on him (as happened to Bush with the great recession. I think Trump's base will be harder to convince, but Trump would also very likely do a much worse job responding to such a crisis than Bush or any normal politician, both because he's an idiot and because he wouldn't be willing to do unpopular but necessary things like Bush/Obama did by bailing out Wall Street).

It is mostly the wider fight for representation and equal rights that has awakened our ugly side. There was a ton of violent civil unrest in the 60s and 70s for similar reasons

It is in all likelihood a very profitable sub for them. That's all that matters. Hopefully it doesn't take one of them to follow through on these calls for violence to finally pull the plug, though.

By that same token though, theyve nuked other hate-spreading subreddits. And thats the key, the actual spreading. Thats what got r/incels deleted.

I guess T_D drives a lot more revenue than incels and fatpeoplehate did though
