I cannot wait until tesla jailbreaking becomes mainstream, enabling features that are on the car that is just a software switch, and Tesla is legally unable to tell people they can't modify the software unless they state the owners don't actually own their cars.

This kind of behavior just isn't okay from a manufacturer.

What? No. It's a ludicrous policy for a company to hold. They're effectively holding every tesla on the road hostage to their whims and insane pricing models. No other car company does this, so it shouldn't be something you should "expect going into it".

Yep, they literally took away access from supercharge stations while a family was on a roadtrip (effectively leaving them stranded) because they did some repairwork themselves, then held the car hostage for over 10k to reinstate those features.

Depending on the steel used, probably not. I have several spyderco knives with their H1 steel that is effectively rust proof. Been using them for years and they've been stored in less than ideal conditions (my tool box/bags), and aside from the wear and tear from use, they're pristine.

I believe there's a service that will prevent accidental deletions. Disable the service, the protections go away.

It's write protected, so you just need to do it as Admin. There's no special service. In addition you can't delete anything currently in use. But whatever you do manage to delete will corrupt your os.

That said, Windows recovery from a bootable USB can replace the files.

Right, but the downtime incurred is money that can't be recovered.
