They were the only "top guys" Marvel still owned. Like I think people over act on how "unpopular" Iron Man was. He had his own cartoon and toy line in the 90's, which directly lead to him being the one to start with in the MCU (and before people point out Hulk came out a month later, he'd lost some clout due to that awful Ang Lee movie.
