A lot of people seem to really hate freeze, but is it honestly any worse than sleep now? It lasts up to five turns too IIRC, and at least theres no Freeze Powder move or whatever. Would a move that did damage and had a ~30% chance of sleep be broken?

Interesting place, they have a seed bank there that looks just like a Forerunner structure from Halo. I like to think whoever designed it was a fan because its not that dissimilar to the way they catalogued and stored examples of sentient life from the galaxy in the Halo story.

Lol, of course they are. Physicists love to be proven wrong, that means there is more mysteries in this world to discover. People have this weird concept of scientists as stubborn and dogmatic when it is the furthest from the truth. Experimental scientists love to discover new things, even if it defeats prior assumptions. Discovery is the reason they went into the field.

I dont doubt any of that, but you cant really deny that there havent been any news headlines about it like there were with the Higgs. I should probably have said they arent shouting about anything in a way that means media can understand why they should report it I suppose.

Love them, Great Misdirect is actually my favourite of theirs though lol - it has some weird stuff sure but Fossil Genera and Desert of Song especially are monster. Coma Ecliptic and the new Automata are both great too (as is Parallax 1, some of the best of their newer stuff IMO); theyve sort of evolved their sound continually if you listen to them in order, and I expect everyone will find a different point along it that they like best.

Gotta love where I live in the state *sarcasm*. A desert/mountain pass. So 100+ summers with 20 or worse winter lows and winds 99% of the time. We've had over 100mph winds. Very few things grow that can handle the two extremes.

I will say this. We use to have snow at least a few times a winter when I was a kid up until my early 20s. And historically long before. So up until the mid 00's. Not now. But before anyone says it's global warming. The winds were always. Always from the east. Desert influenced. For the last 3 years the summers have been much cooler, topping out in the 90s and the winds are always from the west. Ocean influenced. Clouds, fog, that crisp smelling air.
Now I'm not into every conspiracy theory out there. But this isn't normal. And no one on the weather/news ever talks about this. But everyone here does. Family and friends. When you're in town, at a restaurant, at the grocery store, etc. The 90 years old ones in the family have even commented on it's weirdness. My family alone goes back over a century in the town now so we all know what's normal and what's not. And the weather has never been like this year round. Ever. Not that I'm complaining about it as it's better than the 100+ degree with dusty desert wind days.
But it's weird. And another thing is that all the news channel's weather reports are always, always off. Then never get even tomorrow correct anymore. They use to years ago. But these last few years they all predict weather we use to get but not the weather we do get. It's weird. It feels deliberately wrong, as if there's something they don't want to say.

Have you tried looking at weather models to see what they forecast for your area? If they match what the forecaster says for the most part then I wouldnt look much further than that - certain locations have topography that has a big effect on temperature (valleys are a common one) but which are too small to be properly represented in most if not all models. The human forecasters job is to know where the models are likely to be wrong and account for that, but they cant cover them all in a three-minute forecast.

Her hearing has to be significantly worse than my mother's since she always hears "Yanny" on that NY Times tool no matter how far towards "laurel" I adjusted it, but she clearly hears "laurel" on the original vocabulary.com audio.

For me adjusting the tool a bar or more to the left in one jump made me hear laurel but I could still hear yanny way down low if I edged it down in small increments.

No that's not what I was talking about at all.

When it comes to temperature conditioning, you have to burn one degree worth of energy to cool something else by one degree and the net temperature change is zero--except there is also waste energy involved which is more heat so the net change is in favor of creating more heat.

If the hurricanes are happening because of heat--this will end up making the problem worse long term.

Examine the exhaust of your AC if you're looking for a general idea of what I'm talking about.

Hurricanes are fuelled by latent heat release from condensing evaporated water, its not a direct transfer of sensible heat from the ocean.

Just cooling that region might stop anything developing there but it wouldnt kill off the tropical wave that the cyclones form from. Look at where most of the intensification happens (the red/purple parts) - its a huge area and mostly further west. The waves themselves develop over Africa where there is obviously no ocean heat source at all, so cooler waters in that relatively tight area where the tracks begin wouldnt necessarily make that much difference. Youd be better off trying to fire a load of Saharan dust into the air out there, since that does a much better job of killing off tropical waves altogether.

In theory cold water upwelling is one of the main ways to kill off a hurricane, but to cover any reasonable percentage of even just the Atlantic Main Development Region would surely be completely impractical due to the size of the area, and even then youre probably not going to affect overall oceanic heat content in the upper levels that much because the colder water will want to sink again pretty rapidly.
