Throw the book at her; she killed two people through criminal negligence. Let her remorse be a factor later, in parole hearings.

TopicDo you have any credit card debt?

Incidentally, a year ago I had no credit. I tried to buy my own place then, and it just wasn't gonna happen.

So, I went to my bank, and asked for a secured credit card. I had to put aside a few hundred bucks for this.

I then put a few monthly bills on auto-pay with that card. Cell phone, internet, Netflix... and I made a point of paying it off in full, on time, every month.

Six months later, I had a credit score of 738. I then had no trouble at all getting a home loan under a first-time homebuyer program. I ended up shelling out less money up-front to buy my condo than I would've needed to rent an apartment.

The only reason I even bothered with getting a credit card was to build up a credit score so I could buy a home.

I own a condo now, and I love it!

I'm still determined to keep up my good credit score so I'll have the option of taking on some debt to make some upgrades here, if need be. Generally speaking, though... yeah, I'd really prefer to play this credit game to the minimum extent possible.

Incidentally, I can totally see how a guy who earned a BA in History 50 years ago might be more knowledgeable on economics than some wet-behind-the-ears kid who'll be getting a Master's Degree in Economics three months from now.

First off, there's definitely something to be said for fifty years of real-world experience. Secondly... yeah, the education system has really deteriorated that much since then.

Larry Kudlow is a smart guy, and really knows his stuff when it comes to economics. I know this because he has a radio show with a focus on economics that plays in my local market. I hear it from time to time, and a lot of his predictions actually do come to pass. I don't agree with the guy on everything, and I think his show is a bit on the boring side, but he does tend to know what he's talking about.

Incidentally, if you really don't like Trump, you should probably welcome Kudlow coming aboard. He's big on free trade, and he's basically okay with more open-borders policies because they ultimately improve the bottom line for big corporations. He might thus serve as a more moderate voice within the administration when it comes to immigration and tariffs.

The one situation where I'll actually ask for a substitution is the T-bone steak and eggs at IHOP. It normally comes with pancakes and no hash browns, and I really prefer hash browns and no pancakes. I'm just not a sweets kind of guy.

Other than that, if I think I might not like a particular meal because of one of its ingredients or a pre-set side dish, I'd rather either go ahead and take a chance on it as-is or just order something else instead.

Edit: A couple of years ago, I ate at a fancy restaurant where the side dishes were preset, and I actually made my choice based on the side dish. I wanted to avoid asparagus, and the option that looked best to me with that in mind was the veal saltimbocca. I probably could've asked for a substitution on the side dish of another meal, but I'm glad I didn't because that veal was so good!
