lol, baseball has way more games than the other sports. It's also pretty low-intensity, you spend nearly half the game sitting in the dugout, then the other half you're standing around in the field for 95% of the time until the ball is hit and there's a brief flash of action

Now basketball and probably hockey...you're "working" a lot compared to the other main sports.

Not much to say other than I agree w/ TC. Everyone should have to work retail, food service, or similar so they get to experience the other side of it and then most should act nicer towards the employees.

Once again no idea what Zeus is talking about, retail employees get fired all the time, especially with the majority of states having "right to work" laws (what an Orwellian name!). Maybe his state doesn't have those laws but even so it's not hard to fire a retail employee.
If it was difficult to fire them, the whole topic of, "got fired for pursuing a shoplifter" ridiculousness wouldn't even be a thing.

I completely disagree.
The advent of personal computers, the internet, and cell phones radically changed what a childhood was like for a 1985 baby vs. a 1995 baby.
In ways far more profound than any other prior technological upheaval, at least in the past century. Part of it too was how quickly it all came to be and became integrated in our lives. I'd imagine the advent of electric lighting leading to a "night life" might be similar in how it changed society, but that certainly didn't become widespread over just a decade.

I'll always remember Game Crazy b/c I ended up chatting w/ some guy that worked there about how I like RPGs, and a great story, and I love Suikoden, etc...
And he convinced me to pick up Baten Kaitos. And it was not an easy sell, I kind of mentally checked out the second I saw it was card-based. But he assured me it wasn't like a CCG and how great it was.

And damn, I fucking love the Baten Kaitos series! Probably would've never even known of it, let alone decided to play it if not for that dude.

It's funny how a bunch of my favorite series, I only discovered/tried by chance. Like...Suikoden, my favorite series of all... I was at Aims (yeah, long time ago) and wanted Wild 9, but they had a B1, G1 sale. I hadn't even heard of any of the other games and narrowed it down to some RTS (I think?) game w/ toy-looking tanks and stuff or....this weird RPG w/ romance novel cover art. Thank god I went w/ the romance novel-looking one!

Ugh, one of those fuckers ripped me off.
Was at my bank, and they sold me on listening to a guy who managed PIMCO bond accounts. I've never gone into stocks b/c I'm risk-averse, but he showed me how over the past 30 years, only one year did the bond fund lose money, and it was only 2%. It never gained more than like 6 or 8% either, but like I said...risk-averse, that's fine as long as it's not going down.
So of course, within a few months of starting it, the bond fund fucking tanked. >_<
What really pissed me off was...he'd seldom answer his phone and when he did, about a week into the route, I asked if there was any way out of the fund before the 1 year minimum w/o paying a penalty fee, and he said no.
After another week and ANOTHER $1500 dollars lost, he finally admitted I could transfer it to a PIMCO money market account and make 0.05% interest but not have any chance of more losses and avoid the penalty fee, so I did that. I feel like it should be illegal for him to have outright lied to me about my money management options (but it'd be hard to prove based off of phone calls I didn't record, so..).

I liked that bank, but after that I was so pissed off that I moved all of my money out of there and I'm never going back.

They got to enjoy the biggest economic boom in the country's history due mostly to all the competitors being smoking craters after WWII, then when that stopped panning out, had the good times kept alive by massive debt spending they'd never have to worry about paying back themselves.
In a period of near constant growth and bountiful employment, instead of socking away all those earnings to cover for the future, boomers and their politicians spent spent spent.
They wrecked the environment, supported military operations across the world that sprouted an endless wave of enemies to sap our military and threaten us with terror, and just in general did their best to make things as terrible as possible for future generations.
Now they're being called out on it, and it's pissing them off. You really expect the most selfish generation to become introspective and reflect on their own failings? Ha! No one should be shocked that they'd rather nonsensically blame millennials for problems that were created before the millennials themselves were even born, rather than admit any sort of fault!

While as increasing taxes to pay for safety net programs does directly affect them.

They literally don't want safety programs either way. It's not a matter of programs benefiting them. And the rest is just outright falsehoods. Libertarians are AGAINST civil forfeiture, for starters. As for religion, Democrats are as likely (or more so) to be Christian than Libertarians.

Also, it's ironic that you tout "selfishness" when it comes to people not wanting to part with their money but not for people who want to take other peoples' money so they don't have to work.

Ok, you didn't understand the words that I typed, so I'll break it down for you.

When I was listing stuff that Libertarians don't really speak up about nearly as much as they do taxes, like asset forfeiture and the unconstitutional treatment of the accused, because it doesn't affect most of them....I'm saying they're against those things (otherwise why would I be mentioning them) and am only highlighting those issues to demonstrate the clear discrepancy in priorities all these right-leaning libertarians have. Being taxed "heavily" is a bigger issue to them than that stuff, based on their voting record.
When I said "While as increasing taxes to pay for safety net programs does directly affect them," it meant "negatively affects them." Anyone with basic reading comprehension or lacking a complete desire to try and misrepresent the statement would know that, so I'm not surprised you failed to.

While no pure libertarian (not many people are 100% "pure" towards an ideology), I consider myself fairly strongly libertarian-leaning, though mostly on the civil liberties side of things. Because....however hysterical you get about being "screwed by the government" for having to pay more in taxes, that doesn't even come close to...say...never being charged with a crime yet having all your cash stolen and having to go to court to fight to get it back, or having a DA looking to build a tough on crime rep putting an innocent man behind bars for 20 years.
Your pal trump is a big fan of civil asset forfeiture, btw. Obama was trying to reform it at the federal level, but Trump's administration has undone all of that: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/07/sessions-forfeiture-justice-department-civil/534168/

By strict definition, sex has to be involved (which I'm sure it is here). But I consider any situation where you're paying for someone else's companionship to be a form of prostitution, including such things as the very concept of Valentine's Day (buy her shit and hopefully you "celebrate the holiday of love" that night). Western game devs have realized and capitalized on the market that most people treat games as either tous or interactive story books and this poll is evidence.

Everybody who voted too hard is literally a casual.

Or we're not talking about the same games...When we say too hard, we're not necessarily talking about our games or games we own. We're talking about which we would rather not play. When we think of too hard, we could be thinking about a games from somewhere else. Or from years ago. Or just thinking of a game in general. We're not saying our games are too hard. But that we would rather have a too easy game instead of too hard...

A game thats too easy is nothing but a time sink.

Evenif you play a game thats impossible to win, pushing yourself mentally and sometimes physically to try winning still leaves your body with objectively positive gains than the brain drain that comes from playing a simplified skinners box.

Again, preferring something easy is a casual mentality, not just in videogames but life as a whole.

Most people are casuals though. I dont know why people try hiding it aside from corrupting the groups that want to push their limits.

Me putting 5 hours into beating a story I like> Me getting killed and failing to progress for 5 hours.

How dare people be casual and not want to be stressed and have fun? So weird.

If you're just in it for the story then why not read a book?

Because it's not at all the same thing, any more than experiencing a story through a book vs. a movie is.

Videogames are interactive, and in particular role-playing games, you're taking on an actual role to play (crazy concept, huh?), you're not just controlling some automaton that mindlessly shoots at stuff. You have characters, that a good story will get you to care about. And their struggles are your struggles.
And when a plot twist is done well in a videogame, you will personally feel like you've been betrayed, rather than just some dude you're watching on a screen has been betrayed. When you find out you were mistaken in your outlook and have been unwittingly doing what the actual villain wants all along, those were actions you took, decisions you made. It impacts you far more than just passively watching it unfold.

If you don't give a damn about games with a rich story and plot (and the fact that you think it's no different than just reading a book tells me you don't), that's your preference. Fine. But plenty of us do enjoy those games.

As far as parsnips...they're really good as a creamy soup. You roast the parsnips with a piece of ginger, then mash the parsnips up and cook with a chicken broth.

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Bake on a pan/cookie sheet (I'd suggest putting foil down), scales side down
If it's around an inch thick, cook for 15 min. If it's closer to 2 inches or thicker, you'll need more time, but risk overcooking portions of it. I'd suggest avoiding a very thick fillet, or if there'll be left overs, eat the less thick portions first, and re heat (in the oven) the rest next time.

That's all you have to do. I bake it and have it on my salad, no seasoning needed.
Or you can put a sauce/marinade on it before baking if you want.

In one online rant, she complained that YouTube censored her content by imposing an age restriction on one of her workout videos because they were too racy. She says the company failed to do the same thing for stars like Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, whose videos, she says, are inappropriate for children.

Well, uneven enforcement of rules is pretty bs. Not enough to justify shooting at employees, but it is bs.

On her personal webpage, she posted another rant about YouTube saying, Be awarethere is no free speech in real world and you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered and merely relegated, so that people can hardly see their videos. Aghdam also quotes adolf hitler, saying, Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.

I guess shooting the YouTube office is a terms of service violation.

What channels were they? What were her videos about?

Curious what caused Youtube to restrict advertisements on her videos, and if she had seemed unhinged in them and such....

I don't really care if he prefers his son to be gay or straight, nor do I care what any parents prefers or has no preference.

The fact that he thinks his son going to dance class will "turn him gay" is super fucked up and stupid, though.

The only thing stopping this from becoming law is a veto from Trump and flipping 21 senators' votes

We all rely on online communities to work, socialize, and learn. From the largest social media sites to the smallest message board, online platforms are central to our right to assemble and speak out. SESTA and FOSTA would put all of us at risk of being shut out of those spaces.

The authors of these bills in Congress say theyre designed to fight sex trafficking, but the bills wouldnt punish traffickers. They would threaten legitimate online speech.

Online platforms are enabled by a law referred to as Section 230. Section 230 protects online platforms from liability for some types of speech by their users. Without Section 230, social media would not exist in its current form, and neither would the plethora of nonprofit and community-based online groups that serve as crucial outlets for free expression and knowledge sharing.

If Congress undermines these important protections by passing SESTA/FOSTA, many online platforms will be forced to place strong restrictions on their users speech, silencing a lot of marginalized voices in the process.

The Senate has passed the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, or SESTA, and tacked-on FOSTA (Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act), by a vote of 972. Lawmakers did not fact-check the bill's claims, research the religious neocons behind it, nor did they listen to constituents. Significant organizations, including the Department of Justice, ACLU, EFF, and more had assembled to object to the bill both publicly and in letters to elected officials. In the process, law professors and anti-trafficking groups, along with sex work organizations, unearthed the bill's many alarming legal, constitutional, and human rights disqualifications.

It's dubbed the "anti-trafficking" bill for the internet, but it's really an anti-sex sledgehammer. The bill removes protection for websites under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, and makes sites and services liable for hosting what it very, very loosely defines as sex trafficking and "prostitution" content. FOSTA-SESTA puts into law that sex work and sex trafficking are the same thing, and makes discussion and advertising part of the crime.

Websites are removing content and communities wholesale, the result of FOSTA-SESTA making safer working conditions more difficult by criminalizing digital conversations about sex work, screening tools and discussions about how to be safe doing it.

By way of its ambiguity, FOSTA-SESTA has begun the largest wave of censorship the open internet may ever see.

only person killed was the shooter who shot herself after wounding 4 people

Well, depends how bad the injuries are.

One of the most recent shootings, only the shooter died at first, but a victim passed away from the injury a few days later.
Hopefully no one else dies from this.

What the fuck kind of toppings are those? No pepperoni, bacon, or even green peppers?

Green peppers are bell peppers.... Bell peppers includes green, red, orange, yellow, and any other colors of bell pepper.

I completely forgot it was getting new seasons! Has season 2 started? When does it air? When could I catch up on the episodes I missed from S2? I want to watch S2 from the beginning, so the plot can still not make sense, but at least be presented to me in the proper, intended chronological order!

to be fair, S1 made more sense the more you re-watched it

The long-anticipated move is a win for auto manufacturers, which had lobbied for lower fuel-economy standards.

Any split in the nation's car market would be troublesome for auto manufacturers, which had lobbied the Trump administration to lower the standards.

"The unfortunate reality is that this decision comes with a logistical nightmare in the short term," she said. If states divide into a patchwork of competing fuel economy standards, while a long court battle drags out, "it puts automakers in a very challenging scenario from a product development perspective.

I feel so bad for those car companies that lobbied for this knowing California and other states would abandon their fuel standards and now those efforts will result in more costs and complications for them, between the court battles and having to develop cars that meet the standards anyway while adding the burden of maintaining different models for different states.
Oh, woe is them!
I feel so very bad for them, I truly do.

Of the poll options, Pineapple (barely)> Feta > Artichoke > Bell Pepper > Black Olive

And I wouldn't put any of the rest on a pizza. Pleasantly surprised to see feta and artichoke on the list, I love those but they're a bit more obscure. A place near my college had artichoke and cheese tortellini topped pizza and it was really good.

Other odd toppings that work really well (not...together, just a list): goat cheese, figs, arugula

No, he was an awful fad actor. And, unlike Pauly Shore who also had a brief high profile stint, he wasn't even funny.

Pauly Shore was at least a little entertaining. Barely, but a little.
