The online was extremely limited. With free play (So if you wanted to play with random people without friend codes), you were limited to only 2-minute matches. The lag on those matches could get bad. When I say bad, I mean bad.

One of my most ridiculous gaming memories was a 4-player, "2 minute" online match that took, and I'm not exaggerating at all, no less than TWENTY MINUTES. I entered the command for a smash and watched as Snake took five seconds of real time to initiate the animation, and another ten to complete it. For some reason, none of us quit, probably because we were entertained by the spectacle.

I got my PS4 for free back in 2015 (friend hooked me up) and have used it as a Bloodborne and RE machine this whole time. I pretty much forgot about The Last of Us, which came free with the system, until I brought it up in another topic today.

Finally gave it a try... and I'm sad to say there's almost nothing I like about this game so far. I dislike the cover mechanics, the stealth implementation (I'm usually cool with stealth gameplay, but this just ain't clickin), the combat, the level-up/crafting system, and even the exploration. I don't care about any of the characters and their dialogue, and really the only saving grace so far are the graphics.

It's five years after release, so I hope no one thinks I'm trying to troll here, but I honestly can't remember the last time I felt this disappointed with a GotY-caliber game.

I want to ask people who know the game well - should I just give it up? I currently just entered the woods after doing a short subway underwater section. This is only a few minutes after Tess was killed by the military police. It feels as though I'm well beyond any "tutorial" section, so yeah, if this is what the entire game is like, it just might not be for me.

MK might still be the best because the fight scenes and music are pretty awesome for any standard.

And when the goddamn game narrator makes his presence felt by saying "REPTILE" outta nowhere. That always got me juiced.

No offense taken brother! I've stuck with it, but I think and rethink my career opportunities often. I'm unemployed for the first time in my life right now, so it's made me think about going in a different direction even more. Stable work, but can be boring (and stressful) as hell.

A "new" game in this context is one you haven't played before. The release date is irrelevant.

I think at this point, I'm squarely in the "replay" club. I've only played two games released since 2015 (Bloodborne and BotW) and am surprisingly happy with that. I've had a digital copy of The Last of Us on my PS4 for three years and have never really felt compelled to start it.

Ah true, I forgot that it's gaining more mass all the time.

But even if it's infinitely dense, would that truly be able to affect planets billions of miles away the same way that the old star did?

This is at least partly hypothetical, as I'm guessing any "nearby" planets would be destroyed by the supernova in the first place.

If that's the case, then wouldn't the gravity that had previously governed its star system be thrown out of whack due to a loss of all that matter? I had always been led to believe (can't remember where I first heard this, but I know I have) that a surviving black hole exerts the same (or at least similar) gravitational pull as the star that died to create it, but how can that be so when the newly created black hole/pulsar is so much less massive than the former star that just spewed its guts into space?

I still remember my first time in a Toys r Us after immigrating here from the Iraq/Jordan. It was sensory overload for a six-year-old. I'm not sure if I said a word the whole time I was there.

I'd say the storyline-required bosses are among the easier ones in the game, though they still gave me a thorough flogging my first time through. The game's true difficulty is found in the DLC and the higher-level Chalice dungeons. Those bosses still rough me up.

Anyway, I've played quite a bit these last few days and will post some of my thoughts later.

IMO, this is still one of the best games ever made, and its collection of bosses is unrivaled. I'm not sure what game I've played even comes close with boss quality.

Ludwig took me a few attempts, probably almost ten. This time, his second form gave me the most trouble, which was never the case before. I think it might be because I still only have 8 Stamina, so I have to be really careful with my attacks and it's tougher to stagger him.

Beat Logarius yesterday, though I had help. I went into the fight solo but received a connection as soon as I walked through the gates. I feel there are some bosses that can pose a challenge for multiple players (Ludwig comes to mind), but Logarius is not one of them. He just can't deal with a distraction from the front and a backstab from the other player. Think I only healed once.

I've been slicing away with the Chikage since then, and yeah, the "unsheathing" transformation R1 is probably my favorite move in the game. Everything sounds and feels so great with this weapon, and the damage with a good Bloodtinge stat is insane. I'm kind of a glass cannon with tougher enemies (currently taking on Bloodletting Beast in Depth 3 and he can just about one-shot me), but I'm still having a blast.

Might have to look into this! I wanted top-tier gems which is why I started the Chalices yesterday, but if there's a way to bypass those, I'm all for it.

Ah good to know. I called for Logarius help yesterday and no one showed up, so I just went in there solo and almost got him! I'm doing pathetic damage since my Bloodtinge stat is useless atm, but if I can bait him into some viscerals, I have a chance.

I did the same! I wanted to search Old Yharnam for the Charred Hunter Set gear (which I never even knew about until yesterday), so screw that guy.

Anyway, I'm in the early stages of a Chikage build. Level 39, stats looking something like:

VIT: 23
END: 7
STR: 10
DEX: 14
BLD: 23
ARC: 7-ish

I tried Logarius a couple times last night and got kinda close despite being underleveled. Hopefully I get him today. As soon as I get the Chikage, I wanna help people with bosses. Hopefully the game's active.

Bringing it back to DKC for a second - I replayed it (first time in 20 years?) with my brother on the Classic last year, and we had such a blast. Laughing at all the mine cart deaths, losing our minds when one of us managed victory from the jaws of defeat, and amazing ourselves by still remembering some secret locations. I forgot that nearly every level focused on a unique gimmick, and most worked very well. I also appreciated that the core platforming was quite forgiving; it seemed most of the difficulty was in the mine cart and barrel stages.

I know that a majority of the fanbase considers DKC2 to be the clear superior - can someone elaborate on why? I barely touched 2 back in the 90s, but I still consider the original to be outstanding, so 2 must be BANANAS.

On the other topic at hand - I've dined at finer places (steakhouses, sushi), and while I understand the appeal, it really isn't for me. It's nice to cheer my girlfriend up with a nice sushi dinner when she's stressed at work, but deep down, I'll probably be a value-menu burger guy til I die.

I appreciate SM's contributions to gaming, but yeah, I just didn't dig it much. I played it around the same time you did (maybe later), and by then, I just didn't have the patience to remember the location of "that square on the map that was blocked before but may not be blocked now because of my new item." It might be my least favorite top-tier SNES game, sacrilege or not.
