Play a lot of backgammon with my fiance. Plan our wedding. Look for places to live. Hang out with her family. Eat out a lot. Go the gym.

Sounds like you'll raise a good kid tc. I'm raising my daughter pretty much the same way. She's 3 years old and already knows to address adults as sir, mister, misses, miss, or ma'am. She usually just sticks with sir or ma'am but it's a good start.

I generally don't ever beat her ass unless she's doing something stupidly dangerous and I know that she knows not to do it (like playing with light sockets or other seriously dangerous shit). I could count on one hand the combined total of times I've ever had to smack her or actually raise my voice at her (it kills me inside to have to be the bad guy and make my baby cry).

She's a really good kid though and the nuns at her daycare say she's the most well behaved and intelligent kid in her age group.

Nice, good job. Especially the way she respects adults, that's an awesome job. She'll be a good person.

My parents did the same (teaching me you can't always win) and the only thing it did was encourage me to stop trying as much, and I completely abandoned any notion of engaging in competition of any kind.

If you're not a winner, you're a loser, and if you're going to be a loser most of the time, why put in the effort at all?

Yeahhh... See you also have to teach your kid to not have a losers/quitters mindset

Yeah, that dudes argument was terrible. All you do is mix in the values of trying even if you don't succeed

They did that too, but again, I saw no reason to try very hard if I wasn't going to succeed most of the time anyway. When I lost, it was a case of "oh well, was going to happen no matter what I did" and when I did win it was "oh well, was probably a fluke".

Losses never killed my confidence per say, but at the same time, wins never bolstered it either, and in the end I just grew up feeling/being mediocre.

So what will you do when your kid that you've raised to be invincible, perfect, protected etc comes home from their first job saying their boss was "mean" to them because they told them what to do with a deadline and expected it to happen?

never understood the complaint of participation meaning more than victory. sore losers are a fucking drag so teaching them have fun with the experience instead of winning is a good thing
plus it's not like every kid isn't keeping score

You know what's fun? Being beaten, learning from the experience, fixing it, and then overcoming your difficulty. That's fun.

Being beaten by 15 goals and being told it was a draw is not fun.

Let me guess you don't want people to tell you how to raise your kids but you constantly try to tell others how to raise theirs while online

Nope, people can parent how they want, that's their right. Not my place to tell someone else how to parent.

Good. Then do what you do and shut the hell up >_>.

Is it really that much of a problem? I don't know anyone that think they should always win.

Maybe not they should always win, but the idea of "everybody wins/everybody gets a trophy" doesn't sit well with me because that's not how real life works

There will be scores kept in any competition.

When they misbehave, they will be spanked (not beaten up, just lightly smacked so they know they did wrong)

While they will be my special little snowflake, I will explain to them that the world does not see them like that, and they need to work hard for anything they want.

Exactly how you, I, our parents and grandparents were raised.

When i was a kid, i couldn't stand watching football (AFL in my country) cos it would go on for hours and i mean 4 to even 6 hours.

I grew up playing/watching/breathing AFL, and it never lasts 4-6 hours. 3 hours max. Unless you refer to pre/post match coverage, in which case in Victoria it's 24 hours.

There is nothing like the 30-60 seconds after your team scores a goal in football (soccer)

Literally every stress, worry, anger, etc in your life melts away and you encounter pure ecstasy. There's no feeling like it in the world.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1621307437954391&id=319485334803281

Look at their faces. To experience that feeling, there is no comparison in any sport or moment in life.

Once you have that, you understand why people love sports.

Work is the means to an end. I get paid well but don't love my job, but don't hate it. I net about $1000 a week for 38hrs and usually work 8am-4:30pm. I am AMAZING at my job so have great security but I don't love it.

I don't focus on my work at all, I focus on my family and personal life.

I make 30k annually. I have no post secondary education, training, or marketable skills or certifications, every job I can do will be replaced by a robot before I reach retirement. I'm 30.

So do it.

I started a degree two years ago when I was 25. I'm halfway through now and will be 28 in September.

It's never too late to start.
