Though after the original, groundbreaking arcade game, Pac-Man hasn't really replicated the same sort of success. He had a weird SNES sequel that was more of a point-and-click pet sim than anything else, a decent series of 3D platformers, and another short and mediocre game series based on the Ghostly Adventures cartoon; between all of this, there were other games that pretty much recycled the arcade gameplay, some with updated visuals, while others just reused or recreated the arcade original's graphics. Meanwhile, Mario, Pac-Man's arcade contemporary, had many notable and well-remembered hits along the way (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Odyssey) and cultivated a massive franchise. He was chosen to be in Smash 4, and while it's appropriate for such a huge gaming icon to be in the game, many people seem to forget that he's in the game at all, and he isn't used much in competitive play (though he also has a weird, rather difficult playstyle, so that may repel potential players from using him). That aside, there also wasn't as much excitement for him as with other third party characters such as Mega Man or Cloud; his appearance was even expected due to Namco developing Smash 4. Do you think Namco can revitalize Pac-Man and put him back on the map? Or do you think that his better days are behind him? --- |

We have characters (mostly the Stooges) getting punctured by sharp objects (including in the eye), getting their noses clamped by sharp scissors, their heads sawed or hammered, getting blown up by explosives, getting shot by firearms, attacked by animals (including bears, bulls, and lions), getting seared by hot objects, and other stuff that are eluding me. All of that would definitely be seen as too brutal for children. Adults, no, since they can separate fiction from reality and typically have the sense to not imitate what they see on TV (and if they do, they should understand the risks). DoctorVader posted...
