Odin consistently is relegated to these inactive roles because, in Marvel movies, old people need to take a backseat to the roles that can make you money. The entire film is really anchored by two performances and the chemistry between the characters (not really the actors, but the characters). I guess I would consider this an almost-great movie that just didn't emotionally hit me as hard as I think the film intended. Some of the film goes to what I would call "too-extreme lengths" in order to hammer home aspects of the plot or characters, and it stops being grounded in reality. --- "Reading would be your friend." ~Dave Meltzer |

I think the Bond that Connery created is just a variation on Connery himself. While it might hew closer to the books than later Bonds, it lacks the spark for cinematic flair that allows Bond to transcend a novel and become a star of the silver screen. Ultimately, I've always considered Connery to be a "common man Bond", and I don't want to watch normal people do normal things. The further the series goes, the more Bond-like Connery's actions become, but his personality has always been a strange blend of blase and tranquil. --- "Reading would be your friend." ~Dave Meltzer |

There's a mythology to them, this pervasive sense of legend and history that permeates all of the films. That's actually my big complaint with the American Godzilla of 2014 (ish).
