I haven't played Undertale myself, but I would probably have gone pacifist or neutral if I had played it going in blind.

But it kind of sucks that if someone went that route they had to miss out on some great tracks, moments, and fights.

The genocide route is totally extra. It's definitely not for everyone. Getting the true pacifist ending is all you need to complete the game.

Don't finish Genocide, just make it to the final boss, who's fairly obvious when you reach him. Beat him if you want to, but quit after it and say you've done it.

The experience of defeating the final boss, by any means necessary, is truly unique

The entire genocide run is full of really unique experiences, but getting to the end is absolutely necessary to get the full effect
