What if it's not possible to answer those metaphysical questions?

As long as I put a great amount of effort into attempting to answer them, a lifetime of reading other philosophers/scientists and formulating my own theories for others to read, I will be content with my contribution to humanity. My reasoning for as to why they are solveable is my belief in the Principle of Sufficient Reason which roughly states that everything must have a reason, cause or ground. Thus it is not absurd to propose there are 'hidden' aspects to the way reality functions we are not even close to understanding.

I would like to make as much progress as possible on solving the great metaphysical questions such as 'Why are there beings at all instead of nothing?'. I would also like to do what I can to improve public education systems worldwide, introducing proper financial and sociological teaching in schools so children are adequately prepared for the adult world (which at present I believe they are not prepared well enough).

Joelypoely
06/08/18 10:44:33 PM

Geez this is a complicated question. Personally I believe they 'exist' through our common conception of them maintained through the collective conscience (kind of like the argument put forth in 1984). I'm sure some famous philosopher like Heidegger has attempted to answer this by relating each item/concept to the purported impossibility of their present non-existence.

What's even the point of traveling?

Travel was once a means of being elsewhere, or of being nowhere. Today it is the only way we have of feeling that we are somewhere. At home, surrounded by information, by screens, I am no longer anywhere, but rather everywhere in the world at once, in the midst of a universal banality - a banality that is the same in every country. To arrive in a new city, or in a new language, is suddenly to find oneself here and nowhere else. The body rediscovers how to look. Delivered from images, it rediscovers the imagination. - Jean Baudrillard

Stop hoping for things to change, accept things as they are.

The first part is right, the second is trash.

My reasoning is that hope breeds dissatisfaction. For me personally, every low point in my life can be traced to the fact that I desperately hoped for things to change or something positive to occur, but nothing changed. If you attempt to remove your hope and learn to accept things you don't always have the capacity to rectify, life generally looks much less bleak.

I visited this place called 'Australia' once. It had some really nice scenery however there were some very peculiar animals there and the people there spoke a mysterious dialect. They also had this odd sport called 'AFL' or something where the aim is to kick a ball between 4 posts. It reminded me of Quidditch. As far as I know 'Australia' is simply a colony owned by New Zealand.

"The self is a relation which relates itself to its own self, or it is that in the relation that the relation relates itself to its own self; the self is not the relation but that the relation relates itself to its own self. Man is a synthesis of the infinite and the finite, of the temporal and the eternal, of freedom and necessity, in short it is a synthesis. A synthesis is a relation between two factors. So regarded, man is not yet a self.

In the relation between two, the relation is the third term as a negative unity, and the two relate themselves to the relation, and in the relation to the relation; such a relation is that between soul and body, when man is regarded as soul. If on the contrary the relation relates itself to its own self, the relation is then the positive third term, and this is the self.

Such a relation which relates itself to its own self (that is to say, a self) must either have constituted itself or have been constituted by another.

If this relation which relates itself to its own self is constituted by another, the relation doubtless is the third term, but this relation (the third term) is in turn a relation relating itself to that which constituted the whole relation.

Such a derived, constituted, relation is the human self, a relation which relates itself to its own self, and in relating itself to its own self relates itself to another..."
