i really dont see a case for this being gun control working or not working. stating this case which is one of the bigger ones in a few decades is a silly thing to fall back on. and stating this being the only one in 20 years so it must work also doesnt really hold water when gun deaths were already in decline a decade prior to the 96' buyback and in many cases were replaced with other means (arson being a big one, in which deaths spiked 50% after the buy back over the years).

everything in moderation. small elements of socialism typically work well in combination with other things. once you go full bore into it is when things get bad, much like everything. the problem is figuring out when the cut off is.

the NRA has actively tried to kill the 2nd amendment and continues to do so.

depending on how you want to interpret the 2nd amendment- the concept of the second was to be on as much of an even footing with an opposing force as possible. in modern times that doesnt mean single shot weapons when an opposing force would have semi or fully automatic ones when it comes infantry. now by that very concept it also means we are already infringed heavily compared to what modern military has, but that doesnt mean it gives gun control advocates more of a right to further neuter peoples constitutional rights and further limit our own defense who we in the US are extremely fortunate to have unlike most of the world.

basically the "well, we are already at a disadvantage, so lets fuck our selves further!" mentality is bullshit and the most defeatist pussy attitude there is. those are the types of people who tend to be the first to get a bullet if an actual uprising goes down.

guns are the best means of self defense, the only thing that can put anyone on an even keel and the only thing that eliminates as many unknown factors as possible. and saying your life is at higher risk by owning one can be said about anything. having a knife increases your risk of cutting your self. the more you drive increases the likelihood of getting into a crash. hell placing a table in your home increases the risk of bumping into something and falling on your face. you throw anything into a situation and it automatically increases the likelihood of something. theres 1000 other things people interact with every day in there normal lives that have a higher likelihood of killing them than a fluke gun accident.

much like most things in life, be respectful and knowledgeable of the item and there should never be a problem.

you wouldnt need large numbers and any fighting wouldnt be in a traditional way. youd just need a few thousand dedicated people willing to go that Timothy McVeigh mile. the way the US is setup (with no frontlines, tons of choke points, easy access to power grids, military and citizens mixed in with each other) and its reliance on a militaristic capitalistic society (where citizens often times have access to buying better equipment than the military in terms of on person items) with the ways citizens are brought up on the "american dream" freedom philosophy (who also have a large abundance of veterans since the US has been at war almost every year of its inception. not to mention most "gun guys" probably have more trigger time than most soldiers now do), an insurgency would be a nightmare for any government willing to go real tyrannical. youd have to break the people over time to gain ground before you even install your regime. if the present government, tomorrow decided they wanted to do so they are absolutely fucked.

it does beg a question. where would we be if we had far more limited access to guns? maybe because we have so many guns to help deter rights infringements and potentially more constitutional amendments is why we arnt as far along the authoritarian pole like the UK is.

dont expect the fastest reloading, but its a nice rifle. go for it.

the AR15 has certain things going for it that can make it a tiny bit more dangerous than many other rifles(easy bolt release, magazine catch, low recoil), but pretty much all of those aspects are more important in a combat situation where you have people shooting back at you. in a mass shooting event where you generally can take your time and not have to worry about people returning fire its really not going to matter.

one of the worst single person shooting events in history was done with a mini-14 which by all accounts is more cumbersome than an AR and the largest shooting event was done with AK's. the biggest school shooting in US history wasnt even done with a rifle, but a handgun(and he used 10-15rd mags too) and they still racked up nearly double the body count than sandyhook or parkland. if someone knows how to use their weapon it doesnt matter what gun they have.

the other annoying issue singling out the AR is that everyone conveniently ignores everything else. they want AR's gone, but then leave mini-14's off of AWB's. we are seeing less emphasis on AK's now despite AK's being just as cheap as AR's. they ignore all of the other magazine fed weapons that are just as dangerous like HK's, Tavors, ACR's, Brens, Gallil's, AUG's, FNH's, Keltec shit ect. hell theres even fucking shotguns now that can hold 40+ rounds. theres just so much stuff out there that someone can use if they wanted. the AR is the most popular single type of rifle in the country so it stands to reason that its going to be used more in nefarious shit, but even then AR's specifically only account for 2-3% of total firearm homicides. but then we all know they arnt ignoring those other rifles, the AR is just the first step in their plan.

outside of holding up longer without maintenance the AR is just a better rifle in most ways.

the concept of a gun free zone in general is fucking stupid, unless you are actually going to enforce it with guards and metal detectors. putting a sign up isnt going to do shit to deter someone from bringing a gun and doing some serious damage, but only insures less options for stopping it by making people who own guns leave them behind.

that said i also dont like the idea of more firearms around hyperactive and high strung kids especially when this can potentially be fixed in other ways.

as someone who lives around a lot of hicks and militia types, i cant think of many who are for higher militarization of police. most respect the military and police, but many do not trust the cops specifically.

of the few cops iv actually had a conversation with theyd rather you be armed than not just because of the chances of them getting to you and saving you in time are super slim where i live. just dont show them that youre carrying.

yes, hes now 13 years old (still doing quite well). had him since he was 2 months. i had another, his brother who was a tabby and quite frankly was the best animal iv ever owned with one of the biggest and friendliest personalities iv ever seen in an animal. lost him to colon cancer a few years back which gutted me and still makes me question if ill ever get another animal.
