Had a bit of a busy day but I have finished B: The Beginning now. My non-spoiler thoughts are that I liked it despite having a few major problems with the story. I'd still recommend that people watch it because if nothing else it was a fun anime. I certainly enjoyed it more than Devilman. Anyway, time for spoiler thoughts:

My main issue is that this felt like two completely disconnected stories that someone tried to stitch together, and I don't think they did a good job. The serial killer investigation plotline and the angel prophecy plotline could become entirely separate stories and I don't think you'd even need to change anything major in either one. There were efforts to link them together, sure, but I never felt like either story individually benefited from those links. Lily knew Koku from her regular life, for example, but I'm struggling to think how that mattered aside from the writer desperately adding another connection between these two stories.

On their own, and with another half of an anime to flesh them out, I think either one of these plotlines could've been really good. Trying to fit them together just resulted in everything falling apart for me, though. That's how I feel right now anyway. I'm going to think on it more for awhile.

I'm seven episodes into B: The Beginning and this certainly isn't what I was expecting from what little I knew about it! Still, I'm enjoying it. My only complaint right now is that the major elements of the story feel disjointed but I'll wait and see if the last five episodes help pull everything together.

I just finished Princess Principal, which I've been meaning to watch ever since it won best OP in the coveted Board 8 Anime Awards. I thought it was pretty good! Usually stories being shown out of order would bother me but this show handled it surprisingly well. I liked every character and enjoyed every episode. I also loved the steam-punk aesthetic of the setting.

I just watched all twelve episodes of Kakegurui and... man, it was amazing. I can see why other people might've been disappointed with it depending on what they wanted from the concept but this was exactly what I hoped it would be. Without spoilers I'll just say that Yumeko is a style of character that I always enjoy and she didn't disappoint. I also loved how they approached gambling with all of the creative games rather than going with more standard ones. It was fun trying to pick out all the nuances as each gamble unfolded.

Anyway, yeah, 10/10 anime, easily sliding into my current top five. Very happy it already has a second season announced.

The nightmare sneaking sections were easy too (if you're seen literally just rewind until you aren't being seen and keep moving forward in a straight line to the end). They just didn't add any tension and they didn't mean anything within the narrative, kind of like most of the nightmare. Like, what was the thematic meaning of Max watching Chloe make out with a bunch of people?

Love Live! Sunshine!! completed, and I'm happy the second season maintained its high quality right up until the end. I'm guessing I'm in a small minority on this (checking the episode topics on the Gamefaqs anime board, it really seems like everyone hated Sunshine >_>) but this was way better than the original Love Live. Sunshine managed to dodge everything that slightly bothered me in the first series and the characters were all consistently fun. I'm looking forward to the movie they've announced!

Obvious spoilers for Life is Strange

At one point in time I probably could've written a book about all the changes I would make to Life is Strange. Here are a few broad ideas:

-Shorten (or cut) the nightmare sequence
-Have more than two endings, have prior choices impact them rather than one final choice, and have each ending feel meaningful
-Have a better explanation for the tornado other than a bad time travel cliche

Basically just rework episode five entirely. It still had potential to have a 20/10 ending up to that point.

As always, thanks again for the recommendations everyone, I've added them all to my list and I'll hopefully get to a few of them soon. First I need to finish some of what I'm currently watching, though! On that note:

I finally finished the second season of Sound! Euphonium and... eh. The second half of the season was indeed better than the first but overall I didn't like the specific types of drama the story focused on. The first season was a lot better because it was about the music as everyone came together and improved. I felt like the second season lost that aspect.

On a more positive note, I'm most of the way through the second season of Love Live! Sunshine!! I'll probably have more to say once I actually finish it but so far this is the best Love Live has ever been. All the characters are great and I've loved every episode so far. Aqours > 's imho

Not sure if anyone else here is watching it but I think I'm going to drop Beatless. A few of the concepts had potential but I don't feel like they're doing anything with them. I'm barely following the disjointed plot and I don't care about any of the characters.

Still, if anyone is watching Beatless, let me know if it improves and I'll come back to it. If this were only twelve episodes I'd stick with it but twenty-four is a long way to go for something I'm not enjoying and that I don't see getting any better.

To me, it didn't feel like episodes 2-4 set up anything important in Violet Evergarden, and what it did set up was all handled so clumsily. There did need to be some sort of bridge between 1 and 5 but episode 3 (by far the best of the bunch) alone would've sufficed if they made her 'impressive' letter actually impressive.

Still, no use dwelling on what I see as the bad stretch. I'm enjoying it a lot now and that's what counts!

Sad to say but I'm not enjoying the second season of Sound Euphonium anywhere near as much as I did the first. There's so much forced melodrama and the two new main characters haven't grown on me at all.

It's ultimately up to you, but I'd say it could be as simple as completing one full game. If you choose a lot of turns those can take a few hours, after all, which is a comparable length to a lot of other games. Another idea could be beating each map but that sounds incredibly tedious.
