The Arizona Court of Appeals ruled on Thursday that Brush & Nib Studio in Phoenix must serve gay couples in response to a lawsuit brought by Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski, the studios owners, who had not been asked to provide services by any gay couples, but were trying to preemptively assert their right not to do so.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports: Filed in 2016, the suit alleged that the non-discrimination order would force them to provide services would violate their freedoms of speech and conflict with their belief that marriage is between one man and one woman. Duka and Koski had attempted to override a city ordinance that protects LGBT people from discrimination. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the couple by anti-LGBT litigation group Alliance Defending Freedom.

A new poll released in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Courts ruling in favor of anti-gay baker Jack Phillips:



reveals that most Americans oppose businesses that refuse to serve gay people.

Reuters reports:

In the poll, 72 percent of respondents said business owners, because of their religious beliefs, should not be allowed to refuse to serve customers based on sexual orientation, while 14 percent said they do have that right. Another 9 percent said businesses have the right only in certain circumstances and 6 percent said they do not know.

Like other recent surveys of American adults, the Reuters/Ipsos poll also found that the number of Americans who support gay marriage has increased in recent years.

Not really surprising.

Anti-gay people are dying out, most of whom are old religious nuts.

George Takei released a statement Friday afternoon following a New York Observer investigation which resulted in accuser Scott Brunton admitting that the sexual assault did not happen.

Takei thanked fans for standing by him, and wished his accuser peace in a statement posted to Facebook:

In November, actor George Takei denied sexual assault allegations made by Scott Brunton, a former model who says Takei sexually assaulted him in 1981.

Brunton claimed he fell unconscious at Takeis apartment after having a couple drinks and when he woke up his pants were around his ankles, Takei was groping him and trying to get his underwear off. The accusations, which came as a flurry of Hollywood and public figures were brought down by similar allegations, prompted a public pillorying of Takei, who has always denied them.

Now, Takeis accuser has withdrawn many of the allegations during a lengthy investigation by the New York Observers Shane Snow, who tracked how Brunton changed and added to his story over time, and also revealed that many of the claims, such as possession of a date rape drug, would have been impossible because such drugs did not exist in 1981 when the alleged assault took place.

Takei has always maintained that the events described by Brunton did not occur, and is vindicated by Snows investigation, which you can read here.

the key words there are "In Silicon Valley"...Of course there are some super expensive cities and if you choose to live right in the middle of the most expensive and convenient cities it'll cost a lot. Now admittedly its not super cheap elsewhere, the cost of living all over the state is still incredibly high but not every city has San Francisco or Los Angeles costs.

This so much.

I don't understand why people only think California is made up of major cities. Like. . . California is a huge state. There is so much more than Los Angles and San Francisco.

Respecting air pollution, not all parts of California are heavily polluted. Again, California doesn't only consist of Los Angeles.

Gates said he never met Trump before he was elected, because he had always avoided him.

After Trump was elected, Gates said he went to visit Trump at a horse show where Trump had talked to his daughter Jennifer. Gates said that Trump left the event and made a big show of flying back to the same event in a helicopter 20 minutes later.

Clearly he had been driven away but wanted to make a grand entrance in a helicopter. So when I first talked to him it was almost kind of scary how much he knew about my daughters appearance.

Gates said he saw him at another meeting at Trump Tower about energy, health, and education, HIV vaccine, things like that.

He met him once more at the White House. In both meetings, he asked Gates if vaccines were good or bad, and Gates told him no.

Both times he wanted to know if there was a difference between HIV and HPV. So I was able to explain that those things are rarely confused with each other.

Gates added that Trump talked about himself in the first person, telling Gates: Trump hears that you dont like what Trump is doing.

Added Gates: And I thought. Wow. Youre Trump.

Three years after the U.S. Supreme Court made same-sex marriage the law of the land, many people still are not convinced that gay people should be allowed to marry. They might not say it out loud, but in their hearts, they still believe marriage should occur only between a man and a woman.

The good news, though, is that those numbers are getting smaller.

A recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute found that overall support for same-sex marriage has increased substantially since 2015. According to its Atlas of American Values, 61 percent of Americans say gay and lesbian couples should be able to marry legally, while only about 30 percent are opposed.

With the exception of white evangelical Christians, most religious groups in America also now support same-sex marriage. The majority of white and African-American Protestants as well as Catholics are in favor of marriage between same-sex couples, according to the report.
