Same. I feel like they could have made it something more impactful, like Phoenix really does believe the orb belongs to Kurain village, and he wants to get it back so Maya can claim her rightful place as master, or something. It would have made that trial so much more emotional to see Apollo and Phoenix battle each other for their own ideals.

They could have easily found another way to continue the thread normally after that, just give him a stronger reason to stand in court at that time.

It also has the literal worst menu system Ive ever seen bar none

They tried to make everything too integrated rather than just giving you a top-level menu that lets you decide what exactly you want to do when you start the game.

Granted, I always thought Halo was a bit too complicated menu-wise in general (since, particularly with the 360 installments, the game makes you jump through several hoops just to start a regular single player game).

Man, people just cannot get over crapping on 4.

I mean, yeah, 4 had problems, definitely (underwhelming protagonist, really stupid case 3, low-impact ending) but it also had great characters, some of the best music in the series, an incredible opening case, and a solid plot thread to work off in a future game (though they haven't yet, which is annoying).

Meanwhile 2 never really gets that exciting. It's really only good, I think, if you get invested in Maya and Phoenix's relationship. Other than that it's a decent but unmemorable entry.

They are. They're promising a 4K patch that finally makes the game work exactly how it was supposed to at launch but this is far past the sell-by date, sadly. Any chance MCC had to turn around MS's fortunes against the PS4 have long since passed.

The Halo Master Chief Collection was my biggest disappointment in gaming history tbh.

That was supposed to be the game that would turn everything around for the X-Bone. It was going to be a game that we'd be playing for years. I could replay through all the campaigns with my brother and play Halo 2 and 3 multiplayer just like in the good old days.

Then the game launched. And it didn't work. Then a week later it still didn't work. A month later it still didn't work. A year later and it still didn't work. You simple could not connect to other players or find a match. You'd spend thirty minutes in match making if you were lucky. And then you would have to do it again after the match ended.

One of the greatest missed opportunities of this millennium in terms of gaming, surely.

They had all the wind in the world behind them with that and they squandered it. Kind of like WWE when it came to buying out WCW and ECW.

The Xbox 360 HDD almost ended up in the same pitfall but thanks to MS using DVD9s instead of Blu-Rays for game media, the HDD ended up a de facto necessity so it just barely scraped by.

To be fair, I kind of get the Kinect thing. It was sort of an all-or-nothing deal (either don't even bother or insist it come with every console; going halfway and making it optional would mean devs would never consider the Kinect an integral piece to the console and subsequently ignore it, making all of MS's production wasteful). Trying to slap on a completely new control mechanism and attempting to standardize it halfway through the generation (the original Kinect and the PS Move) never pays off (unless we're talking about the original DualShock).

It didn't work out for them but those are the gambles you have to take. Motion control gaming came and went and the eighth generation was too late for Nintendo's competitors to take advantage of it out of the gate.
