What kind of company is it? Don't have to answer if it's too personal.

Its a tech company. Its kind of well known so I prefer to keep it general.

Some wife you are touting your husbands failures.

Lol. He had no problem making fun of our income difference for years. Besides, hes not so insecure as to care. Hes happy at all the extra income coming in to our bank account.

Thats great! I wish he had those hours. Its very hard for him to support the whole company. They refuse to hire someone else for additional support too. Theyre cheap as hell. I really wish hed find something else but he hates job hunting.

Been working at this company a year and a half. This is my first ever official promotion within a company. I also got a sweet ass raise. Seriously feels great.

I also now officially make more than my husband bwhahah :)

Funny to think that when we met 7 years ago, he was making double my income.

My husband is a systems engineer and I hate his schedule. He has taken calls at 3 am because he supports Europe. Hes also home by 7-8 pm every day and always spends a few hours working on the weekends. Its a small company so he also does desktop support for the whole company.

Were both responsible with money. I would have never married him if he wasnt, or had a lot of debt or was broke.

Come on, Cleo. He can increase his wealth exponentially. I can understand if he was in debt and you don't want to deal with him.

What can I say, I'm shallow that way. Finances are really important to me.

I know but you can get out finance burden with the quickness. What's broke to you? Less than 40K? Just wondering.

Hmm it's hard to put a number on it. But if they're living paycheck to paycheck, have bad credit and debt, then I consider that broke. And there are people who make a lot of money and can still fall under that bucket.

Does your gf work too? Are you buying the house jointly? Having a mortgage that is about 40% of your monthly income is kind of high.

Does the mortgage also include property taxes and insurance?

No, no. Yes

Why on earth is her family giving you down payment money?

Consider it like a dowry since she doesn't work.

They arent married though, so giving him money would be dumb af lol.

y'all are thinking of Amazon warehouses. he'd be working in a datacenter, NOC or corporate office - very different

Actually its not so different. Ive spoken to many Amazon engineers that absolutely hate the environment there. The all day the culture is toxic. They basically leave as soon as their stocks are fully vested. They make bank though.

Don't (or at least be very wary). I've heard nothing but horror stories from Amazon. Their MO seems to be to aggressively recruit, run people ragged for a few years, and then when they've burned out just replace them.

Probably not network engineers.

Actually yes. Ive heard thats how they treat their engineers and have spoken to many who left for that reason.

But you make bank there. Most people stay 3-4 years, until their stocks fully vest, and then run the hell away. Most engineers Ive talked to said they had a horrible experience though.
