I'm in victor which is basically the nouveau riche of rochester suburbs. everyone's up their own asses now, it's awful

the rochester metro area has 1.2 million people in it which includes all the people that live in suburbs around it. there's a lot of money south of the city too, which I'm sure you're aware of if you live in brighton. fairport and victor are rich as hell too

syracuse is a dump. buffalo is doing better but still on the downturn, rochester is doing alright. watertown is tiny, not really worth mentioning aside from weather being even more extreme. fort drum is the only thing there, it's about 1/10th the size of buffalo/rochester.

driving in the snow isn't too difficult once you get used to it. but there are still lots of idiots that drive like they moved here yesterday

if you look at those announcements all that stuff was already going to be done regardless of if this bill passed or not. that $15 an hour thing? it's part of a union deal to raise the wages to $17 an hour. so you should be thanking the union... oh wait unions are evil nevermind.

tbh, taking affordability off the table (since the government subsidizes some things to put them below the actual market cost, with people paying on and through the backend -- other non-subsidized things it's just plain more expensive on), the private market tends to offer greater availability and/or quality. Public education is a great example, given the low quality provided to students (and high overall price to taxpayers). However, when you have a monopoly (including when the government is the only provider), quality *tends* to go down since there's no competition. Case-in-point would be ISPs.

depends on the industry. the reason single payer healthcare works is because the government can negotiate with providers better than anyone else. they can say "look, I need someone to provide hip replacements for the ENTIRE united states, and I want the best hip replacement for the lowest cost". no one else has that kind of buying power.

yeah whatever bread crumbs the poor get from this will be offset by having to pay more for everything else. plus the rates on the poor will go back up over time.

the rich are looting the country, all these corps are going to put the money into buy backs and artificially inflate the market, explode the economy, and the rich will be right there to pick up the pieces.

persona 5 and total warhammer 2 came out this year among others which are some god damn video games so they can't be that dead. last year was xcom 2, stellaris, fire emblem, bravely second... definitely quality games in those genres coming out every year.

Oh man guys two games, one of which I'm not playing over cut content totally refute the idea that only a few companies are still infrequently making games in those genres!

tales of beseria, battlechasers, original sin 2, civ 6... I could list more but you are going to move the goalposts continually back to fit what you want so I'm not going to waste the effort.

I realized racism was a problem when one of my black friends explained to me about the talk. you see, white kids get "the talk" as teenagers, and it is about sex. black kids also get "the talk" from their parents, but it's not about sex. it's about what to do when the police show up. the experience growing up as a young black man is so much different, if I hadn't gone into the city to work in places where half the employees were black I doubt I ever would have realized it.

wall jumping was real bad, I remember it being a lot easier in fusion. but fusion made up for it with the horrible controls on the space jump

I didn't like it. the low-G/low field of vision made it difficult to navigate and I never finished it

golden sun looked amazing for a 2001 handheld game. can you imagine going from black and white pixel graphics of the gameboy to golden sun? because that's what it was in 2001

healing in these games is way overpowered. once you get 4 djinn and unlock aoe heals you are pretty much invincible. maybe in link arena you could down someone with sol blade+excalibur both unleashing on the same turn, but then you can revive people with full hp.

how you had to use psynergy in dungeons and the like. I really can't think of another rpg that had you interact with the environment like golden sun did

I think there are people that subconsciously try to kill themselves with cigarettes or food

lots of great battle themes but doom dragon is my favorite. satauros theme popped up again for the true final boss, star magician

golden sun 1 was good, but 2 was even better
