If anybodys looked at Vice s*** recently they actually have some videos where they disabled comments.

Same for TED Talks and some of the Ivies. TED was actually pretty pissed about it and lectured youtube in its comments, saying the site was too dangerous for free commentary and was not a safe space. It was a little funny.

I remember back in the old days when liberals said everyone on the internet would inevitably be liberal through the spread of True Facts and it was only a matter of time before Texas turned blue, and the only reason anyone hadn't succumbed to liberalism yet was because the internet still needed to reach redneck shacks where they presumably had no power or access to information. Whole lotta condescending stuff like that.

But now reality's hit and their social justice videos are getting downvoted to oblivion.

Hmm...2009-10 ish when I was working at McDonalds. Also happened right after I ate some McDonalds for the first time in a long time, so my body associated it with that and I couldn't eat it again for a while. Also happened because it was like an overnight thing and I felt bad but was pushing myself to go in, until that got me not to. It was in the shower though so the cleanup wasn't bad. They wrote me up because it was a Saturday and I guess they just assumed for all their workers that they were lying to take weekends off.

Nah. Actually I think the stuff Obama's behind goes even further than what anyone's predicted. Just in the past few days we've learned some more details about how his administration turned a blind eye to child rape in Afghanistan, and photos of him posing with Farrakhan which were one of many, many things the media refused to report on. These particular photos were kept under wraps for 13 years now, back when Obama was denying any involvement with the Nation of Islam on the campaign trail. And there's more, we really have only scratched the surface on the corruption, the scandals that were all around him. To this day the networks are still sitting on audio from that dinner where he praised a Palestinian terrorist, for example.

The day I lost all respect for Obama was the day Fast and Furious happened. When I first heard that, I said "okay, the rumor mill has gone too far, no one could've possibly done something like that." And then it turns out he did. So since that day I have not doubted anything else that's come out about him.

Republicans don't believe the Russia stuff because 1) the liberal media has lied about pretty much everything, and 2) it was the Obama administration cozying up to Putin with the literal reset button, pulling missile defense out of eastern Europe which is what got Ukraine invaded, "tell Vladimir I'll be more flexible," "the 1980s called and they want their foreign policy back, Romney, Russia is not a threat to anyone" - and now the left wants us to ignore all this and pretend they were always the biggest opponents of Russia. Well, that dog won't hunt.

TopicDemocrats have hit a new low: government shutdown over illegal immigrants
TaiIs82
01/19/18 11:32:10 PM
#26
To say they hit a new low would imply they had anywhere left to fall. Let's remember we've been here before: when Obama decided he was going to shut down the government and barricade open-air monuments. "How terrible, we don't have any money, but somehow we magically have the funds to put up chains and kick out visiting war veterans."

The root of this problem has, sadly, continued under Republicans: the absence of a budget and the loading of everything into a "must-pass" CR which nobody's read, so there's a lot of graft in there that just keeps getting rubber-stamped every year.

The solution is obvious: go back to square one.

We should start the year off at zero spending and (how about this crazy idea) Congress actually does its job? Each day of the year, hold an up-or-down vote line by line. If it doesn't pass on its own, it doesn't pass. No more of this last-minute panic one day out of the year like an irresponsible kid who didn't do their homework on time.

While the left once said a shutdown would be the apocalypse, and now hypocritically urges one on, my position remains the same: let it happen. Shut it down, the politicians don't get their six-figure salaries for a few weeks, they don't get their pork and their waste. They have a lot more to lose than we do, and they deserve to lose it. The establishment can shoot itself in the foot for all I care. When the government shuts down, they lose because they are the government and they are the problem. They won't be missed on my end, idgaf.

If it's anything like the libs I've talked to, they're angry on a philosophical level because they think there should only be 1 official state currency - or the really far left ones who want to end money and go back to bartering. If someone's getting rich somewhere on their own, it's gotta be some sort of scam.

A lot of them are also angry because they mocked the idea from day 1 and said it would never work, so now they're just lashing out and want the reality to go away. They want it to fail and go away so that they don't have to rethink their worldview. Now they claim it's a bubble but really they're the ones living in one.

Here's an example why the rules against namecalling won't work. Instead of saying someone is "racist" all you have to do is ask in the target's topic why "racism" hasn't been taken down yet. It's the same basic message but directed against "racism" in abstract, rather than the "racist" it's addressed to. Mods probably won't take it down but if they do, you can complain about "omg they took down my message against racism" and be the hero. So really the playground clause wouldn't do anything except add another weird Gamefaqs insider rule that you're supposed to remember or get punished for.

"That guy is a racist" - thumbs down

"Lot of racism ITT" - thumbs up

These labyrinthine Gamefaqs quirks will help someone, somehow. Particularly new users I'm sure.

As far as "making it easier for the mods" goes, they've confirmed NWD can't be disputed. This could be something just as problematic, because I can see that open to abuse. A mod can pretty much do what he wants there without accountability, and remember that the next step up is a warning. You don't have to say anything severe, just have "repeated" violations. Very easy for them to load those up on you now.

Notice how they've complained before about how they don't remove obvious violations because they're "too busy." Then their step 1 to resolve that is to cut out the dispute process. Doesn't sound like users wanted a stricter system. Sounds like they wanted the opposite, and the number of disputes was overwhelming them. This whole thing looks like it's about making things easier for mods, not users.

I guarantee you it was one or two vocal accounts, because I don't remember this being anywhere near all users in general. I think even half-and-half would be too generous. Judging from the reactions alone, it's not what a lot of people asked for.

I don't believe that blaming users for bad policy is going to be helpful when it comes to keeping people around.

Did anyone give a crap about name calling?

Mods did. And this is where it started to go off the rails.

We had a topic or two asking for user opinions, but then this was mostly hammered out from mods and (on a higher level) a legal team so terrified of any potentially negative message that this place once tried to ban quotations from news articles as "plagiarism."

The namecalling thing just smacks of mods wanting an easier time with whatever's in the queue, as opposed to terms that would be easier on users. If only they could get themselves a "mod all" checkbox at the top of the list, they wouldn't have to review at all.

Here's the problem: trolls on GameFAQs are trying to upset people, make them have negative reactions. Because what they're doing is with forethought and they're being disingenuous, and thus detached from the subject, it's easy for them to worm around the rules to have the maximum impact while also having the minimal infringement on the rules. Whereas those affected by their trolling will be responding on reaction, out of emotion, and will not be as likely to exhibit the same mindfulness of the rules in how they respond, making it more likely for them to be punished than the one deliberately provoking it.

I'm curious why even with this concession, you're still in favor of stricter terms which will be harder on everyone else. Under your scenario it would mean the troublemaking accounts would be able to cause problems for 5-10 people, instead of just 1-2 emotional responses that got really out of line. It inconveniences way more people, and presumably does nothing about the troublemaking accounts you're thinking of. When that issue gets brought up, you'll notice that mods respond with the usual ambivalence meaning nothing's going to change there. Meanwhile they've removed the grey area to prioritize zero tolerance for namecalling. Why is this approach not taken on the bigger problem?

I really don't know what to make of this. I would have to see it in action because typically stuff has just been enforced so inconsistently. I've refrained from namecalling as 1) it's unnecessary (can win arguments without it) and 2) I assumed it was already banned - or at least, people would complain and mark all the time like it was anyway. And that's really why I suspect this announcement has been made.

Seems like a lot more work for the mods.

In a way, I can see it being easier for them. If the queue's already full of complaints about namecalling, it's easier for them to just take down everything rather than question and spend time thinking about whether it's serious enough to take down.

Maybe this was in an early announcement because it was one of the fastest things they could agree on. I'd feel sorry for them if this came first by order of importance...if namecalling is seen as one of the biggest issues on the site, it would suggest there's better things they could be doing with their time. When they say "we can't get to the serious stuff that's been up for hours, if not days, because we're just so busy" and the priority rule change is placed on namecalling, are they truly swamped?

Especially with the political climate lately, it's probably never been easier to feign genuine beliefs that are reprehensible while trying to play coy about what they're really supporting, baiting people to call them "racist" or something even more extreme, then just marking all that and laughing as those people get in trouble. And when you build up a history in a community of that, it's all the easier, because you can go extreme for a bit, establish a history, a reputation, and then need only lightly poke at that and hint to it from then on. Mods won't pick up on what they're doing but the troll's intended audience certainly will.

I'm surprised you're saying this but I think this is something we can agree on.

I guess the California-invented concept of "misgendering" is still not a violation.

Uh, what? Mods have specifically enforced that stuff.

As someone who's been on the receiving end of it for roughly eight years, I can say with confidence that it's malicious.

The moderator said "Antifa just means anti-fascist. They don't ALL promote violence!"

I have a screen from that time their former community manager defended the moderation of an anti-ISIS message, along the same lines of "they aren't ALL bad!"

I thought this wasn't a violation anymore? But I guess it was just another one of those things that fell by the wayside mostly due to terrible and inconsistent terms enforcement.

You have no right to free speech here.

I am very sad to hear this. Because I just got a dispute response saying that we cannot violate human rights:

You're agreeing that people should have had their human rights violated.

This isn't what I did - it was a border enforcement issue. Nobody has a human right to just enter whatever country they want if they have a communicable disease like Ebola. But I digress.

Human rights are exactly that - a right. Don't suggest that other people should be denied theirs. Thank you.

And then he denied me my free speech rights. Someone will have to tell him he's warned for abuse of form.

he knows how to get out of these situations.

With what's going on now? I don't think so. I think he relies on waiting it out for a few months/years and then coming back to start something up with a new crop of 13 year olds, or people who just plain forgot because what he does is not really that memorable. He was old news even by the time I got here.

Why the f*** does he seem to care about what gamefaqs thinks about him so badly

He's got nobody else.

People have talked Occam's razor here. Personally, I'm in favor of whichever explanation makes his efforts in life look sadder.

I was in favor of the real world thing until Universe B presented itself: Gavi spent all that time writing a fake document and setting up what would also have to be fake offsite "family" accounts, another fake account here to bring up my blog and bring me back in, then he blew it after all that effort when he forgot he wasn't supposed to be here according to his own document. Botched big time either way.

So after all that effort and time sunk in, in return he got 3 posts from me over 3 days telling him how pathetic tryhard it was. Would've been so much effort and so much fail. So I think Option B is pretty funny too.

I've seen him target both SPM and Tails since his "return"

To be fair, I'm here and I'm trouncing him so badly. But he went after SPM? What did that guy do?

Note how he said in the same night that I was the same person who 1) fell for a fake document and 2) simultaneously wrote that document. This is what we call grasping at straws, another fail at keeping the narrative together. He's just trying, and failing, to turn other accounts against each other.

Nah, not really. People mentioning something about gifts to mods, which sounds like pay-to-win to me in the absence of real talent. Most wouldn't be so tryhard to get their help.

Error actually gave some good answers so I'll (surprisingly) back him up, with the exception of a few statements.

We're not the internet police

From the looks of it, people are questioning whether you're even Gamefaqs police. Because here we have a slam-dunk problematic account which should be very easy to deal with, if this site's ever going to deal with anybody, and yet it's time for mod excuses.

Go look at mod ID #14352756, which I just got last night, and come back here to tell me this is anything but a bad case of mod priorities. That's a typical message critical of Obama that got randomly hit last night when somebody in there thought they were the internet opinion police. Today, not as much.

There was a user on the NFL board years ago that got arrested and we did the same thing

...So judging by the site's actions now, does that mean mods back then also punished the other accounts that talked about it, while the guy who did it is still posting today?

Honestly to me it has a bit of a Tails82 vibe to it

Okay, I promise after this last one to scale it back. He's too easy a target, it's just not a challenge at all.

The only thing I want to know is, how long do people think Gavi would last? When he's given 12 months and can't even hold it together in the courtroom. My prediction is that he would just make it worse for himself going after that female cop, physically or metaphorically trying to prove his manhood to her. Lol. I seriously think he would try something even with all the open warnings because he just can't help himself - heck, someone could challenge him to a dare on this board and he'd do it because he's so thick. Very foolishly, he spread so many personal details around to many people who have despised him for years, and the evidence trail in the real world is apparently huge. He's like the bad-at-it criminals you see during a comedy relief segment at the end of the news.

I see a lot of frustrations being projected onto me

If this were true, Shkreli boy, you wouldn't have come here to look for friends between sentencing. Neither did anybody else force you to get upset over a female detective, a detail which you've repeatedly focused on, where it would've been irrelevant to anyone who isn't a sexist moron.

Other people on this board don't need to rely on money to get laid. Unfortunately for you, now that the word's out about your antics you may have to rely on a lot of booze and drugs as well.

Don't confuse sociopath with stupid.

I'm seeing a lot of emphasis on this female cop being singled out. Could be that as a beta, Gavi felt particularly threatened by her presence, and is upset that she humiliated him. Trying very hard to climb back up from that. It would sure fit the bill of someone who has no claim in life other than coming here to latch onto the idea that he can at least get some attention/validation through the (half-rate) agitation of others.

Hi Gavi! After all this time, I still get thanks for my blog. Somebody personally thanked me for my write-up on you. Fun times, huh? Well, I guess it's all catching up to you now.

Coincidentally, I'm getting this vague memory of a random episode of Law and Order (I don't watch regularly, it was just on a few weeks ago). Some guy had weird tapes on a bunch of people and was bragging about it, smug right up until they sent him to prison at the end, then he started crying and turned out to be a cucked lil b**** all along. Oh to be in the room for a show like that! Think they can film it for me?

Unless an article or news video is posted, I don't see how anyone could believe this.

Yeah...if this was real, it's pretty sad that one of his first priorities is to come back here in another vain attempt to look for some friends.

i hope someone sends his GFAQs activity in.

I haven't followed him much (who can blame me, not worth it), but I'd tell them what I can. Why? Are they asking for info?

Yeah I've posted in topics where he wondered why people didn't like him

Aw. Insecure much?

I seriously can't imagine asking anyone on Gamefaqs "why don't people like me? :(" I know exactly why accounts like Gavirulax don't like me. From there, I just give their opinions the weight they deserve, which is nothing.
