Because the wording of the rule is very vague. If you tell someone to stop acting like a child is that a moddable offense now? Who's to say how hurt or offended said person would be over that. Maybe you brush it off, maybe it ruins your day.

No, you don't get to decide what is an insult to someone and what isn't. For instance, you may call me a SJW and I brush it off and say whatever. If you call someone else that, they may take offense that you are incorrectly labeling them.

This new moderation rule is actually the most SJW thing I've ever seen on Gamefaqs. And that's saying something. It's a very slippery slope to be on because as they said there is no distinguishing between flaming and 'light flaming'. If someone is insulted at any point by what you type, you could be modded over it going off of this new ToS. That's pretty scary, but, yay safe space?

Also, depending on where you live they may not even contact your previous employer. Like here in Maryland, legally all they can ask is if you did in fact work there and if you left willingly or were terminated. They can't ask why you left or why you were fired, if they would re-hire you, if there were every any disciplinary actions against you, etc.

I hate how Mike talks to James like a he's child who's never played a game. "Ok here's what you wanna do. Jump across there and grab that. You're doing great James. Oh, hit that guy!" He also clearly wants to take off shirts and kiss with James.

That's precisely what bugs me about Mike. And if they are playing a 2 player game Mike always blames James when he dies. It's quite annoying.

I started watching AVGN just a couple years ago and immediately started binge watching all of their early shows because I found it fascinating. I'm not surprised they're about to turn 40 because James came across to me as mid 20's in those earlier vids. Also him being born in 1980 would fit in with the huge nostalgia of the NES. And yeah, never been a fan of Mike, although he does actually put in serious work on the channel on and off camera - I just think he comes off as a weird dude on camera. I still mostly just watch the content that just features James, as AVGN or as his regular personality.

Mike is great when he's playing a character (Joker, Cowardly Lion), but Mike just being Mike? Meh.

I can't imagine it wouldn't do $100m it's opening weekend. But foreign audiences eat up these gigantic cgi fest movies, so I have no doubt the foreign box office will carry this over the finish line.

Let me see real quick though....

Production Budget: $300 - I'm willing to bet it was more with the re-shoots and such but let's go with that.

Marketing: The industry standard is $100m, but again I can almost guarantee this probably had closer to a $175m marketing budget. I'll meet it half way(ish) on this one and say $140m.

So that's $440m (honestly it's probably more) to get this movie out the door.

Studios typically get around 65% of the ticket sales on the first week and it decreases each week the movie is in the theater, making it nearly impossible to say for sure THIS is what a movie needs to do to be successful. For simplicity sake we'll go with an average of 60% over it's run in the US going back to the studio simply because most movies tend to get the bulk of their box office in the first couple of weeks and then fizzle out.

So that means that in order to break even, JL needs to do around $615m domestic to break even. Which we know won't happen, but there's where foreign box office comes in.

BvS did $330m in it's domestic run on a $250 budget (again, it was probably more). With our $100m marketing costs (again it was probably more) that comes to $350m. Meaning it needed... $490m domestic to break even. Which it didn't do, but did make $542m in foreign box office. The percentage of what the movie studio gets varies from country to country, but a pretty good average from all of them comes to about 30%. So using our 60% of Domestic, 30% of Foreign that we established, WB took in about $361m off of BvS's $873m world wide box office. Taking in $361 on a picture that costs you $350 to get into theater's isn't great. But, then you also have all the merchandising that goes with it and the licensing of the characters to other media, etc. So really at the end of the day even though the movie may not of brought in the numbers they wanted, they most assuredly still made a healthy profit off of it.

So all in all in order for JL to "make money" we are looking at around....

$440m Estimated cost of Production and Marketing

$400m Domestic
$670m Foreign
$1.07b Worldwide needed to 'break even'.

I mean... yeah... damn....

Again this doesn't factor in merchandising, licensing, product placement, and all that jazz. But pretty much anything less than 1b world wide and you could legit say it wasn't successful.

TLDR: I like numbers and JL needs to make 1bil-ish just to break even. (Not really with marketing and product placement, but if you were going off straight ticket sales it would need 1 billion friggin' dollars.)

*Edit* Keep in mind that these larger studios typically work out higher starting percentages with theaters so the bulk of the box office coming in is during the first 2 weeks will likely be at a 70%ish rate going to the studio. But in the interest of fairness I went with a average total of 60% going to the studio. And I'm not trying to say anything negative or positive about the movie, I just genuinely find this stuff fascinating.

Well a lot of the players who go broke have no financial education, have been poor their entire lives, and all of a sudden get a multi million dollar check in the mail, of course they are going to blow it. Then add in all the scam artists and moochers, it makes sense. There was a good documentary on ESPN about it a few years ago. There were crazy stories, some guy had like 35 cell phone accounts, all for "friends" who were like "Dude I was there for you growing up, hook me up!"

It is a very interesting look at the finances of pro athletes and why they go 'broke'. Def worth a watch.
