Some people are really into sports because they just really love the game, but I imagine a great deal more people are into sports because it's the same in a lot of ways to getting invested in a story.

You've got a season with characters vying for the finale. There are betrayals when these characters move to other teams, a mix of excitement and concern when new characters join the ranks. Characters get her and have to leave. Scandals break out. Rivals duel for the top spot. Some of these rivals have gone on for years like a soap opera. You get invested in the ongoing development of characters who you've spent years with and are sad when they have to leave the story.

Sports are basically like the Marvel and DC universes.

Damn this is a good comparison. I wish I could get into sports my friends treat the arguments exactly like that.

it's a great little ethical rumination about AI. nothing that hasn't been done before, but this one does do it with a pretty unique atmosphere and style. it is well acted, and very intriguing if you like that kind of deep philosophical conversations and the hypothetical AI technology shop-talk that it has. the characters are great and the plot is mostly well written and executed, but i think it does some pretty implausible and counter-intuitive things towards the end.

also it commits the same hubris that most stories about AI do, but that is so prevalent in the genre that i no longer count it against any movie that does it. it conflates the concept of an artificial intelligence with the concept of a humanoid replica, treating them as if they go hand-in-hand when in fact they are two separate technologies that don't necessarily have to do with each other at all. if and when AI is truly achieved, there really is no reason it would have to be housed in a humanoid form. realistically it would just exist within computers. theoretically it might not even require a form at all. but we are so hung up on the notion that only something that looks human can be considered intelligent like humans, so the two ideas are always put together and spoken of as if they are the same thing.

it used to really irk me that this conflation was so rampant, but i guess i've learned to not let it bother me so much, cuz i know it's gonna happen.

In today's society, it's socially unacceptable to degrade a person for their ethnicity, disability, handicaps, ugliness, etc - and you know why? Because it's something they had no control over. However, with short males it's still acceptable and even encouraged to ridicule, laugh at, mock, and literally and figuratively look down upon them. Short women refuse to date short men, taller men treat them like little kids, and they're less likely to be hired over taller males. People look at dwarfism as a genetic defect, people look at manlets as a flaw of character.

I'm a 5'8 manlet, the average American College girl my age would never date me solely for that reason. I might as well be a ghost, even 12-year-old girls nowadays are taller. Every time I go outside I feel humiliated, I notice their disappointed glances the moment they notice my height. My face is not hideous, I am not unfit, it's all because of my height. I am a permanent little boy in their eyes all because of something I couldn't control. I was inferior the moment I was conceived. I can't even workout without being criticized for "compensating". If you want any shred of hope of making it as a short male you need to be in a position of power/influence aka talented, rich, and famous like Kendrick Lamar, Tom Cruise, Thom Yorke, etc.

What's funny is that 4'11 women will date the 6'0+ jock and have a manlet son, the very thing she despised. Then she'll tell him not to worry, that there's someone out there for him. Short people should be banned from having kids so the endless cycle of torment can be brought to an end. Fortunately people seem to be getting taller on average, so hopefully, my kind will be bred out through natural selection. Sucks for me though, I'm gonna die alone.
