Eminem actually had a good idea when he tried to make songs to reflect his activism. If the activism is limited to the five minute speech at an awards ceremony, then yeah sure. Otherwise, I still disagree. Political music is not popular - they might not be able to reach nearly as many listeners with their activism if they hadn't built their platform on pop music. there's lots of political music that's popular. it's part of almost all rap music from the super underground stuff to Jay Z I'm not saying it's the plague. My point is that it's not as popular. There will always be exceptions, and it's a rule of thumb rather than a law. But it's still IMO quite a proper description of pop music today. Sorry if I was unclear. (and I think you'll find that the rap music that's big enough to be popular often isn't very political. Regardless, whether a firing is just or within the legal guidelines can always be challenged in court if the employee wishes to do so. I think the bigger question here is should something like sexual assault allegations be enough for just grounds for termination even if it hasnt been proved? I dont think that has such an easy answer Additionally, employees can win damages against employers in court if it turns out the company didnt have justification to fire someone on accusations such as being a incompetent worker. By that similar reasoning, can an employee sue an employer for firing him for sexual assault allegations if those charges later turn out to be false? I just dont think its as easy an answer people are making it out to be. Oh I understand that that's not what he meant, but essentially I feel like those would be the implications. To me there's not a clear line between what's inappropriate behavior on one end, and unprofessional behavior that affects the work negatively on the other. Likewise, to respond to your bigger question, let's say that the boss in question has direct knowledge of the sexual assault. Should they still need to be proved? That's another complication to the whole hardline opinion of "it should be proved in court". In Return of the Jedi, Palpatine referred to Luke's lightsaber as a Jedi weapon with disdain, as if the concept of a material weapon was beneath him. Yeah but one could say that was just a sign of a pretentious demigod mentality. Why even wield a weapon when he has his slave Vader do the dirty work for him. It's also possible that in the 20 or so years since he exterminated all the Jedi he may have abandoned his lightsaber being that it was no longer a necessity to him. Or...
