Dagget is a villain in TDKR. He counts more than Scarecrow.

TDKR is a great film by the way. It is fair to say that it has a lot more going on than Spiderman 3 yet pulls it off. This is because the whole film revolves around a clear central theme, whereas Spiderman 3 is just a mess of disparate elements. Like, how does Harry tie in thematically or narratively to Sandman and Venom? The whole thing is slapped together because those are the popular villains they had.

I mean, states have functioned with no government because of the existing civil service. Look at Belgium, almost two years with no government, and not only did they get by, some say they recovered from the financial crisis more quickly because no austerity could be implemented.

It depends entirely on what the group in question is trying to do. The more nebulous its goals the more decentralized the leadership can be, but if the group is trying to actually do specific things you need to have people who can tell other people what the plan is to make it happen

Do you? Many parties around the world leave policy up to their membership. Also direct democracy can work with an educated electorate and heavy regulation of information. Not saying it's the best way, but I absolutely believe organisations with no leader can function.

Like, right now, do you think the US would be worse off with no President?

Movements certainly don't NEED leaders, the communist parties here in Ireland (the largest of which actually does pretty well thanks to proportional representation and every other party either being centrists or Sinn Fein) have collective leadership and still manage to function just fine.

Of course, I mainly wish that there was a left wing party that wasn't insane.

Oh definitely Logan, and WW was indeed very good.

Regarding Academy Awards, Logan is getting a push and was actually the first film sent to academy members for consideration. I think as it is a weak field this year, Jackman has a shot at Best Actor for sure, as well as Stewart for Supporting.

I don't know about Wonder Woman other than technical awards. Dunkirk is going to eat up the WB blockbuster hype for Picture and Director.

bad look, but UK is also a region that doesn't even play the game competitively so there's probably not much interest in the first place.

Well remember, these are ultra-mainstream games of which the competitive scene is only a fraction. Other games in the series have done much better. So has Pokken, which managed number 5 despite three fewer days of sales and being a Switch exclusive port.

To really illustrate how badly it did, it only got #12 in a week where that and CARS were the only other competition.

yeah, at least in the netherlands conservatives = right, liberals = right, progressives = left and socialists = left (to put it simply).

found that confusing when i first learned the english meaning of these words. conservatives = right, progressives = left, socialists = left, liberals = ...also left? three words for the same thing? really?

It's an American thing, not an English thing. I'm British, political liberalism as a movement was basically invented in the UK, and our liberals are centrists - socially and economically liberal. Socially in greater civil liberties, economically in less government involvement. They are not especially left wing or right wing, and the term is not used that way. In America there is no economic left, so the liberals are as left wing as America goes. Hence the confusion of the term.

BowserCuffs posted...
I'm not sure where I fall in the political spectrum of the left, then.

What I want is social progress, economic progress, scientific progress, and environmental progress, so I guess that makes me a "progressive"? Meh, let me sort of flesh it out.

Economic progress meaning that everyone in the US has access to health care, food, shelter, and necessities, and that the power of economic movement depends on the lower and middle class. I'm not opposed to the rich existing - I'm no pure socialist or communist or whatever, I just think that the difference between pure capitalism and pure communism is, simply put, different roads to fascism. No extreme philosophy functions when put to the test. That is why we must be willing to try different things until we can figure out what works. Insisting that our current capitalism is working even as people are starving in the streets, homeless, is turning a blind eye to criticism and flaws in a misguided stubbornness.

(Again - I am not opposed to capitalism in moderation, and I think there are many benefits to it. But I am not a "capitalist" anymore than I am a "socialist", and I am definitely no communist.)

Social progress, of course, means breaking down the walls that divide us as people - and in part, that means learning to tolerate things we don't like about other people. This is going to be tough because hate from one side inspires hate from the other side and both things have to be resolved. This is an idealism and one that I know will likely never be reached, but it is in the reaching that we grow as a species. (One of the important things for this, in my opinion, is being open to making mistakes and being open to learning from mistakes.)

Scientific progress is one of those things everyone believes they support, to a degree. And who am I to say they're wrong? Other than the part that the scientific progress requires an open mind, both towards success and failure. Science, by nature, has to change its mind as new data emerges, or it isn't science, it's pseudoscience.

Environmental progress means improving harmony between human society and the world around us. Responsible usage of the environment, reduction of pollution, giving as much as you take... these are important for us as a species. We need nature, not just to survive, but tolive.

Where would all of this idealism put me?

That is centre-left social democracy. Basically what Sanders actually is as opposed to what he says he is.

Also Stalin wasn't a true communist, true communism is no government, and he did indeed undeniably deploy fascist ideology such as devotion to the state, cult of personality, totalitarianism... Stalinism is really it's own thing and in no way opposite to fascism at all.

Shulz has ruled out a coalition, which is wise. It stops them from losing face as the minor party in a coalition and stops the AfD from being the largest opposition party. Nobody is going to touch the AfD thankfully. It sounds like it is going to be the excellently named Jamaica Coalition, CDU-FDP-Green.

Also the FDP are centrists, not left wing. They are liberals in the European sense.

Yeah America is pretty damn prudish as a country and it doesn't really jive with the rest of our morals. For instance we don't really care how violent our movies and tv shows are but drop and f-bomb or show some sex and you get an R rating.

I don't think I had any sex ed until middle school and even then it was just a small part of science class. We also had to get a parents signature or we would have been excused from it.

You had to actually get the signature? That's crazy.

In the UK it is compulsory from age 11 on. Parents can withdraw children from some but not all.

Of course the Switch will last more than 5 years, the Wii U was a massive exception and the Switch has so far been a big sales success. They will likely be starting Mario Kart 9 development now since the Mario Kart team made ARMS and that's out now. I would expect the new Mario Kart out in 2019, maybe 2020.

Also there was less than five years between Double Dash and Wii. And 2019 would be five years after the original MK8.

I have serious doubts about this, and waiting longer for a Smash 4 port is both how they keep the legs of Switch moving, and how they can extend the life of Smash 4 for a longer amount of time.

Like there's not going to be a Mario Kart 9 [for switch], why would anyone expect a Smash 5 for switch?

There is certainly going to be Mario Kart 9 on Switch, come on man. This thing is going to be around for years, they will release another Mario Kart.

I think they are working on Smash 5, not a Smash 4 port. Unless they announce it at the World Championships next month I guess.

The 3DS version helped the game reach a larger audience, but not to the same extent that being on the Switch would have accomplished.

By July 26, 2017, Nintendo announced that it has sold 4.7 million Switch units worldwide

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Smash_Bros._for_Nintendo_3DS_and_Wii_U#Sales
By the end of March 2017, the 3DS version had sold 8.72 million copies worldwide

"Okay."

System sales are a moving target. The Switch is currently pacing ahead of the 3DS - by the end of June 2011 it had sold 4.32 million behind the Switch's 4.7 million for June 2017.

Also look at what GTAV did after its PS4/Xbox One release, despite the fact that there were and still are fewer of those systems total.

Very likely release dates for Xenoblade 2, Skyrim Switch, and Fire Emblem Warriors.

Probably some Ultra Sun/Moon news too.

Other than that I think they will have some stuff to clear up what's coming to Switch early next year. A name and a release window for Kirby and maybe a SSB4 Switch port would fill this niche. I wonder if we will see anything about Fire Emblem Switch.
