I don't use photoshop, but in gimp it's easy: Use the Select by color tool, click in a white area, grow the selection by a couple points(Select->Grow), feather the selection by the same amount(Select->Feather), then press delete.

I tend to suggest Java, so that you can learn good software design principles first. I don't really know if that's great advice.

Java is a great starting place. People also can use Python as a good starting language, but it doesn't have as much mainstream adaption as Java. Not that I hate Python, just that when you look at how many 3rd party tools exist for Java compared to Python there is no doubt which one makes things easier for bigger projects.

Once you learn the fundamentals with Java, transitioning to something like C/C++/C# is a lot easier.

I've used python for creating GUI front-ends for existing software and it's unbelievably easy to get something up and running quickly, but when I tried using it to do a lot of number crunching it slows to a crawl. I also looked into file archiving libs and learned that they are terribly slow in python. I really like python for the simple, intuitive syntax, but I pretty much quit using it for anything other than simple scripts.

Also python only took like two days to learn, so I guess that's a pro.

It really doesnt matter, as you should learn how to Learn. Youll never know every last thing about programming, so learning how to look things up and debug code will still be a thing regardless.

And it wont tske you too long to find your first seg fault if you switch to a low level language from a high one, thus leading you down the never ending shithole thats is pointers, double pointers, memory allocation, freeing, and random access lists...

I think the reasoning I've heard about learning low level stuff first is that when using a high level language you could encounter situations that actually require lower level knowledge. I don't know of any examples though, maybe it's not really an issue like I thought.

I guess you're right though. In such situations you can search for a solution to the problem and thus your knowledge grows.

The developers of those extensions have the responsibility to keep up to date. Give it time and your extensions, if they are worth a damn, will be updated.

The backend has been gutted so badly that the needed APIs don't exist for such things as UI tweaks, cookie manipulation, and download management, all of which worked reasonably well in FF56.

Gutted, as in removed completely? Are you sure the API hasn't just changed? If they actually removed those things then that's pretty fucking stupid on Mozilla's part.

Fair enough, but I don't think it's mozilla's responsibility to maintain compatibility with 3rd party extensions. The developers of those extensions have the responsibility to keep up to date if something breaks. Give it time and your extensions, if they are worth a damn, will be updated. I use ublock, noscript, and stylish and they're working fine now.

I'm more curious about the other complaints about the UI changing and being ugly. I am on Linux so it may be different but quantum looks almost exactly the same as the previous version. I actually like it more so I'm just kind of dumbfounded about these complaints.

It's probably worth noting a goto @label is probably more efficient than most other loops. Goto might actually be underrated.

Why

do {} while (true)

when you can

goto @label

It's just as modular, and the program doesn't have to waste time checking if true is true.

Now, goto "line number", that's some terribad programming lol. Add one thing to the top of your program and the whole thing breaks. It's so ridiculous not even the version of basic I knew used it.

Wouldn't the compiler create the same or very similar machine code for both of those? I'm not sure but I know compilers are pretty smart in that regard.
