The president is supposed to be a diplomat and Trump is a HORRIBLE diplomat who's constantly saying stupid shit to get other countries to hate us.

Of course, most of his supporters have no understanding of the real world and think just being a unlikable dick all the time is "cool".

People literally defending a WORLD LEADER openly calling other countries shitholes.

Do you guys not realize that one of the president's primary duties is to maintain positive relations with other countries and Trump seems to be actively going against that? The president is supposed to be a diplomat and Trump has repeatedly proven that he is the absolute WORST when it comes to diplomacy.

At least a solo movie without properly establishing his origin in a Spider-Man movie.

Venom is a dark parallel to Spider-Man (intentionally so), and not necessarily in just his powers. Peter Parker is the type of guy to blame himself for everything that goes wrong in his life, which is why an important aspect of Gwen Stacy's death is the fact that Spider-Man's webbing is what caused her neck to snap. Or the fact that Uncle Ben died due to Peter's own decisions.

But Eddie Brock is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. His life goes to complete shit and he doesn't take any responsibility for it. First he tries to kill himself rather than trying to course-correct his life, then he pins everything on Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Then there's other obvious parallels, like Eddie Brock is somewhat of a meathead, versus Peter being more of a nerd. Or Peter Parker constantly trying to balance out his two lives, versus Eddie allowing himself to be consumed by Venom.

The point is......I'm not sure how well a Venom movie works without Spider-Man at least being a significant aspect of his backstory.

There's a cost-benefit analysis, and by requiring them all to be paid, there are many internships that then cost too much relative to the benefit, thus making them nonexistent.

The benefit is having a future employee on standby that you already know knows what they're doing, because you trained them yourself and will take considerably less time getting used to the work environment, because they've already been apart of it.

Which is less catastrophic than taking a risk on some numbskull who gave a glowing interview but might not be what you're looking for.

Internships are basically the company's way of sidestepping the cost of training their employees, with the added benefit of not having to commit to them. The student gets almost nothing out of it other than "work experience" that they could have gained anyway if companies weren't so hesitant to hire recent grads in the first place.

It's one less way for young people to get experience on their resume. Internships don't just magically exist because you want them to.

No, they exist because companies get something out of them.

They aren't out here offering internships to college kids out of the kindness of their hearts.

Let's be honest: it's their way of training "future employees" without a) having to pay for said training and b) having to commit to that "employee".

It's part of the curriculum at most schools.

It is fucked up especially because it's basically expected that you intern for most careers. In general, the American worker has been increasingly fucked over as various burdens were shifted onto them -- originally you'd start working at a company, they'd train you, and you'd climb the ladder. Now you're expected to pay for your own training through college, work for free for additional training, and companies are more likely to undercompensate you at every step.

And the internship companies sometimes don't even have the decency to hire you once you graduate.

Fiance literally forfeits 4 years of university if she won't do nearly 2 years of unpaid practicums, 35+ hours a week.

That's. Fucking. Ridiculous.

Not to mention the barrier most jobs put around their entry level positions that almost require you to get an internship since that's the only position people with no work experience can get that isn't retail or fast food.

People like to know you've worked for free because it shows that you're work minded instead of money driven. Employers like to forget that the employee still has the end goal on their mind.

So, yeah. Whether an internship or a certain amount of volunteer work, employers like to know that you aren't counting your dimes by the minute.

Then it should be on the employer to find people who have genuine passion for the position, then.

I mean, working and not making a cent to even buy yourself food to eat is ridiculous.

I don't think she meant in a literal sense, at least that how I read it.

I read it as superhero movies (which could be any genre of movie that's just around to turn out profit) are damaging the movie-going environment like fracking is damaging the planet. It could be an irreversible setback.

I also love a lot of superhero movies, but I think her point is also that studios seem to value absurdly high profits over a combination of profits + good storytelling.

See, this would be a fair point but most of the superhero films coming out nowadays clearly have time, effort and passion put into them.

The problem with new customers coming into a store before closing time is that they won't leave until well after closing time, meaning employees have to delay closing up the shop for one guy who couldn't just wait until the next day.

If you can finish your shit before closing time, I really don't care because I have to be there anyway. But if I have to go an extra 15-20 minutes past my shift because you just want to casually browse around, fuck off. My time is just as important as yours and retail workers don't get paid enough to go "above and beyond" for the store.

(I work at a 24 hour store so this doesn't necessarily apply to me, but I sympathize with people who have to deal with this.)
