II has butt gameplay even if you know what to do, but it's always had a good story and a chunk of good characters.

It's just most people don't give it a fair shake. That's why I think Dissidia and Mobile have been giving them better exposure.

I mean it's perfectly fine to have mercs with some debate to them, but any merc that can be taken to do everything or nothing and have them both be valid views just ruins the concept. Because then it's just like, okay who do I like more instead of who would win in a fight.

In fact, I'd say the Top 3 has had the absolute largest amount of overpowering and gatekeeping than every other round combined.

Like, the contest I remember most fondly:

1st Place - Zell Dincht
2nd Place - Yuffie Kisaragi
3rd Place - Vivi Ornitier

Vivi is obv the powerhouse of those three, but Zell had the edge in getting saved first and then we gatekept Vivi out because it would have probably been a bad loss.

The Top 3 is EXACTLY the place where they can overpower you.

If (as you admit), they are stronger, the round of 3 lasts an hour and change. So if Lightning gets saved first, the overflow voters get to decide who they drag along or keep out.

It's the reason why Doomtrain got bounced at 3 last year. He wasn't strong enough to get saved first and then got put away.

Yeah even when I get wrecked in DR, I'm still having fun.

But I mean, I have a boner for roguelikes and have put something like 300+ hours into Binding of Isaac so this is right up my alley.

Plus it's fun to try and go all-in on something and have it work out.
