You can actually do the upgrade quest with just the canoe.

True. But you can't turn in the quest to bahamut without the airship.

I blame final fantasy 1.

It happens every time you get a new vehicle. Ship? Either progress in the storyline (elfland) or hit up some dwarves with fat loot. Canoe? Storyline volcano, or hit up Ice Cave for fat loot and airship. Airship? Seriously, fuck that volcano. Let's all get class upgrades and get this fighter to start learning some white magic, and then walk around to towns with weapons we can't afford and magic we don't have the MP for.

The exploration is better when it's dosed as above as opposed to "walking around forever" to "suddenly airship, zomg, explore all the things"

Arcana is a first person RPG published by HAL. This is the same composer as the Kirby games; there's a few similar elements but this tune (and most of the ones from this game) is far more serious and melodic

Only within the confidant interactions.

I dated Makoto but my interactions with her for anything storyline or battle related suggested no difference on if she was my lover or friend.

Yup. Due to the nature of material and prereqs, some degrees are impossible to get in 2 years; one may need 6 semesters worth of linear prereqs before they're capable of their final class.

I'm aware that there is some relationship mechanic in this game, but I'm unsure of who my options are and how to go about it.

Any and all female confidants will give you the option to bone or friendzone them once you reach either rank 8 or 9 with them.

Friendzoning Haru made me feel bad :(

afaik, there's no penalty for having multiple girlfriends, which is an odd mechanic imo. At least in P3 dating multiple girls caused negative relationship points (which is why you dated one, hit rank 10, and then decided to date the next one), but in P5 all it seems to do is unlock an extra scene where your scorned girlfriends are pissy because you spent valentine's with someone else.

So there might not even BE a correct answer to this!

It's the blue/gold dress thing all over again.

that said, I contend that 1*2*3 / 1*2*3 is a different equation than both 1*2*3*2*3 / 1 and 1*2*3/1*2*3 (although the latter two give the same result, it gets funkier when you throw in addition/subtraction on whether you divide everything by the denominator or merely a single term)

now now, lets not be hasty with Mr. 2. It's possible there was a Mr. 4 and Mr. 1 when Mr. 2 entered, and have since left. This happens all the time with crappy parkers and various parking lots.

That said, 1 or 3 as a corrective action for subsequent pissers (as both 2 and 5 will be done while I'm still pissing) and possibly-justified penalty for Mr. 2.

Stalls are for pussies and shitters. I'm neither.

autoplaying videos with sound and redirecting popups are also ethically wrong. Ad blocking is the lesser evil.

it's not a loss of revenue, because even without ad block I don't click on ads, unless the goal of the advertiser is simply an awareness campaign instead of seeking redirects.

Is there any incentive for playing on harder modes?

Nah. Just e-peen. In hard, enemies hit a little harder and either take less damage or have more HP.

Most of your random battles will be first strikes, where you then exploit elemental weaknesses and then either all out attack or recruit and OHKO. Enemy HP and damage output (the two things that are modified in Hard) are therefore negligent.

It'll make for rougher but still doable boss battles, and will penalize you for not ambushing. After the first dungeon playing hard is very doable -- but the first dungeon is a little rough since constant elemental exploitation is rough on the SP pool and you've got minimal SP recovery items and a small pool.

It's inferior to both P3 and P4, imo.

A lot of the battle mechanics are far more casualized. like free hit on ANY elemental exploit, even if you hit a reflect in the process, Futaba giving you random buffs, and the baton pass system (or MC-followup, if you've got good social link).

Social link acquistion was easy, too. My very first playthrough, I almost got rank 10 with everyone. I missed Sun because the politician dude just ups and disappears at some point in November with no warning whatsoever, forever rank 9 RIP. In P3 and P4 that shit is a SCIENCE, and the only way to max rank everyone on your first playthrough is precise time management with spreadsheets, lots of foreknowledge, and one day dungeon clearing.

Still, a fun game overall. Mokoto is best girl, and my final party was her, Ryuji, and Yosuke.

Happy to see the final 10% of the game being true to an SMT game, at least :D

Also it was very strange to hear Laharl's voice actor as one of the s-link characters. I couldn't help but here "OVERLORD! OVERLORD!" after a few scenes
