It is a single-use token for transaction settlement, and all the banks they like to tout as signing on with them are just looking at it on an exploratory basis. From what I have read, none are actually serious about using their product. Not even close. every coin on cmc is hype, none of them have widespread robust usage in society right now but anyway at least ripple has big institutions looking into it https://www.ft.com/content/2f595696-ecb4-11e7-bd17-521324c81e23 Once the banks decide they don't want significant operations to rely on a single tech startup, the currency will be pretty much worthless.
