It's almost to the point of formulaic, even amongst the characters, but the fact that they're all self-aware and in on the joke helps it keep its charm whenever it pops up. I have the Hotaro reaction when someone posts a giant close-up image of someone's face in real life though. pjbasis posted... Basically, though some are more than others. But in the grand scheme of shounen these aren't that interesting. They become good when there's interesting interactions or emotional weight behind them. Yeah, I guess. I breathed a sigh of relief with Hiei's fight was finished in half an episode after Kuwabara's fight with Byakko took two full episodes. I'm just not interested in all the exposition of their powers and their moves and everyone exchanging cliched insults back and forth. It's like, just get on with it, man! --- |

| LeonhartFour 11/02/17 12:33:38 AM #282 | at any given time it feels like at most two people know what I'm talking about (or if they do they don't say anything) so I tend not to be so effusive since I don't like to wax eloquent for my own self-satisfaction if I don't say much it's not because I don't have a lot to say plus I don't want to be bombarded with giant close-up images of Eru's face again it's also part of the problem with having a general topic because I don't want to go into too much detail and flood the topic with black bars if I don't have to As far as Hyouka specifically is concerned, I'm mostly just trying to absorb it at the moment as I do with pretty much any slice of life thing where characterization and cast chemistry is at the core of the show. It'd probably take a second viewing to be able to take everything in with the benefit of hindsight to form a full opinion of the show, but the fact that I'm considering just turning right around and watching it all over again when I finish should give you some indication that I'm enjoying it a good bit. --- |

COMMANDOSTATS CXIII - 47/75 CXIV - 54/102 CXV - 88/100 (Booted) CXVII - 42/100 CXVIII - 60/100 CXIX - 37/100 Fang sets a new personal best this year, but she didn't exactly have a lot of competition in that department. Other than her boot, Fang has mostly been a middle of the pack character. That boot really hurts her numbers though since she still has a small number of appearances. Of course, on the other end of the spectrum, it's easier to make big leaps with good performances with a smaller sample size. With this finish, Fang jumps from 39.94% to 43.95%, passing a whopping 15 characters to go from 75th to 60th. Fang's numbers in the New Era aren't much different since she only has one appearance in the Old Era, but getting to drop that CXIII performance helps her out a bit. There, Fang increases from 40.26% to 45.01%, passing 11 characters to improve from 69th to 58th. --- |
