However, in the Asylum, there was one particular moment that freaked me out. There was a little girl (no older than like 14; I'm always surprised by how young the cast is for some of it) sitting on the floor in the corner of one of the rooms. I didn't see her when we were passing by, so she grabbed my ankle as I was leaving the room and I almost screamed.

they're allowed to touch you?? holy shit, nope.

That place looks/sounds amazing, though. Kind of glad it isn't near me so I don't have to try to psych myself up to go, haha.

2013 was pretty great until the end. My band was enjoying some success, was intimate with TWO WHOLE females :O

2003 was cool cause I worked on a fun summer project

2014 got to go to the world cup in brazil

2006 got to go to England (also during the world cup)

---

2007 may have been the worst - got kicked out of my parents' and had to do a lot of growin' up real quick. getting through it helped me long-term, though.

2010 sucked at the beginning, was working nights stocking and lived in kind of a shitty house. once i got out of the stocking job, though, it was an interesting experience

2004 was when i started having real difficulties being mentally healthy. end of 2013 and onward has also been rough on that front.

My daughter won’t stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night. I visit her grave and ask her to stop, but it doesn’t help.

The last thing I saw was my alarm clock flashing 12:07 before she pushed her long rotting nails through my chest, her other hand muffling my screams. I sat bolt upright, relieved it was only a dream, but as I saw my alarm clock read 12:06, I heard my closet door creak open.

After working a hard day, I came home to see my girlfriend cradling our child. I didn't know which was more frightening, seeing my dead girlfriend and stillborn child, or knowing that someone broke into my apartment to place them there.

A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said, “I heard that, too."

Neither are straight horror, but I recently watched the classics Sunset Blvd and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, and both are great. I'd say Sunset Blvd was better overall but 'Jane' is more in-line with the horror genre. Both feature great, intense female performances, and very similar backstories.

I didn't post right after I saw it, but Green Room was great. Really good, tense 'trapped' horror. I think the next one I'm going to watch is "Clown" - it looks equally horrific and ridiculous. Movies where deterioration of the body and/or mind always freak me out, but the subject matter is of course.....kinda silly. Should be interesting.

Just saw Don't Breathe last night, and goddam, it is fucked up and intense. Not quite as intense as 10 Cloverfield Lane, but there's one scene in particular that's pretty disturbing. I felt bad for my friend's girlfriend, who was noticeably affected, to the point where she said "I don't like this movie" to my friend, who then asked if she wanted to leave, lol. Knowing the title and the plot, it shouldn't be surprising that the film does a good job using the close quarters and 'cat & mouse' game to freeze you with suspense throughout. The 'villain' leaves a lasting impression - his dead pupils give him an eerie look, and the pacing of the 'reveals' about his house was spot on. Also, I had no idea the movie was based and filmed in Detroit - I watched it in a theater about 20 miles from where this supposed house would be. Sure paints us in a positive light! lol. "Escape Detroit for California or you'll be trapped and killed in a dilapidated home in a mostly-abandoned neighborhood!"

So yeah, pretty great and impactful - I even dreamt about it last night. Not a nightmare, as I wasn't scared - just kind of a variation of the plot. 9/10.

Watched The Ring tonight, for probably close to the 15th time. I think I've seen it once for every Halloween since it came out. Still the best horror film ever made imo, an incredibly well-pieced together ghost story that built upon the original with additional plot points and Hans Zimmer's fantastic score. Earlier in the night went through an outdoor haunted attraction with my dad - it was pretty funny as he was behind me grabbing onto my hoodie for most of it, haha.

EDIT - also, appropriate Poll of the Day today. I voted Fatal Frame, but am surprised at the exclusion of Left 4 Dead.

Right. It's horror for the first half then kinda intense-disaster-drama-suspense (that's one genre, right?) the second. Also lol at the very end. Thinking of just going ahead and watching Yoga Hosers now to make this a one-night Kevin Smith trilogy, but it's got real bad reviews, even significantly worse than Red State and Tusk. Although, since I liked both those, maybe Yoga Hosers will at least be passable.

So I thought I edited ^that post to say that lol with 13 minutes to go, "Tusk" by Fleetwood Mac plays. Of course, I knew it. Pretty good, fucked up body horror trip, that actually has kind of a unique psychological element to it not found in other films of the subgenre. There's some really great Misery-type moments with Long and Parks (which AVGN mentions in his Monster Madness review that prompted me to watch this). However, I'm really not sure if Kevin Smith and Johnny Depp really knew what they were doing with that detective character. It's definitely a necessary character but Depp's portrayal of it kinda took me out of it after Parks and Long (mostly Parks) really do a great job sucking you in.

Yeah it looks awful. I'm pissed because the original premise where they planned to do a prequel about the Morgans sounded very interesting (sort of a remake of Ringu 0: Birthday). It woulda been especially cool had they been able to get Brian Cox back as Papa Morgan and whoever played the mom. Ah well. Can't take away from the astonishing original.
