while true in a criminal trial where the burden of proof is on a prosecutor, the standard is significantly less for a civil trial.

all a plaintiff generally needs (there are exceptions) is a preponderance of the evidence which is basically 51% likely over the defendant.

the plaintiff put on a convincing case and had several credible witnesses from what Ive read (and the jurys verdict) the jury probably looked at trumps failure to testify as a lack of evidence or weakness in his defense. Thats not a presumption that is allowed in a criminal case but in a civil case a jury can infer what they want.

edit- however his lawyer was probably in a very difficult position and very afraid to put him on the stand because he had no idea what trump will say on any day. Trump makes a terrible witness cause he doesnt know when to keep his mouth shut.
and Trump has many other more serious cases that a statement under oath in this trial can be used against him elsewhere.
