For one, AAA games are run by big corporations which have commonly have little to no artistic integrity, no work integrity. A lot of games look the same boring palate because they're all trying for gritty muddy realism. They are run by suites trying to follow trends and appeal to the widest demographic possible. It's industry standard to release a broken game and patch the games game breaking bugs after. Indie games, like AAA games, can be bad more often then they are good, are way easier and cheaper to make and take less time. We just get far more indie games then AAA games. The triple A industry has all but abandoned 2D games and there's still a huge market for them because it's a lot easier be artistically creative with games then aren't full blown 3D. Not only that but Indie games are often passion projects done by people who truly love video games. Even if you make one of the best Indie games of all time there's no guarantee your game will sell like Hollow Knight, Slay the Spire or Hades. Not only that but I couldn't even give you an example of an indie game with anti-consumer practices where they nickel and dime you for cosmetics or other microtransaction bs. In fact, quite the opposite. There's countless indie games I have played where they already have a great playable game in a 1.0 state but instead of fully releasing or stopping development, they will still push out content updates for months to sometimes even years after.
